Proving Someone Wrong

Will you do something that someone tells you that you can't do to prove them wrong? I like to prove people wrong, it gives me some kind of adrenaline rush. I remember when I was a Residential Manager of a Group Home. On this particular day I had to do transportation (picking my individuals from their Vocational Rehab sites and bringing them home)and we were moving an individual from one house to the home where I was assigned to. All the supervisors and other managers where there to help move this individuals furniture to the house I was working at. We were almost done and the time was getting closer for me to pick up the individuals. Every one else was sitting around eating and talking, I'm keeping track of the time and I was taking things out and there was a dresser. I figured since I was the only one working, maybe other people would notice and pitch in. But nobody did, so I took the drawers out of the dresser and picked the dresser up and carried it to the van. Everybody was surprised and then offered to help (after the work was done)and I said I already got it and was ready to leave. Now granted, that example no one said anything, but I proved my point. My husband thinks I'm a 90 pound weakling, and he'll tell me I can't lift/move things that he'll have to wait for someone to help him, but I get it done! I think after he broke his knee/leg he found out that don't tell me I can't do something because I'll prove them wrong!

Hey Jodee, are we sisters in another life? We even have worked at the same line of work. I burned out at the manager level and quit for a while but that is what I am doing again. I think I would have gotten angry and gotten it done in your shoes. I even emptied out a foreclosed house for a family member who was gone, with a foot that had just had surgery. You just do it. Of course I am a "big girl" and look pretty capable as well.

Might be! lol That's why I stepped down from being a Residential Manager, all the paperwork and approval to get an individual the help that they needed in a timely manner. It takes a special person to do what we've done. ;) I liked the position I had one time at a nursing home, I was called a Universal Worker... I filled in for laundry, housekeeping, activities, van driver and dietary. That way I never burned out on one job, but yet I was still around the individuals.

I know what you mean, my thing is don't tell me I can't do something cause I'll do it just to prove you wrong. Of course if I can't really do it I'll still say I can and then get someone else to do it for me and say see told ya I could get it done.

Me too. But I always choose which ones to prove and which ones aren't even worth my while. I used to have some relatives who keep on telling me that I'll end up getting married at 18 and not finishing school. Well, I'm just so glad to have proven them all wrong, like I wanna rub it in their faces lol!
