Although nobody smokes in our office. And it is also not allowed inside the office. However, everyday we still suffer the second-hand smoking because of the central air-conditioner system. The smokers probably smoke in the corner of the stairs. And somewhat these smoking can't go out of the building. And finally it comes to every office and I really hate it. I think smoking in the building should be totally banned.

In my city is it banned. Even bars or restaurants can't have smoking unless it is completely closed off from the rest of the building and has its own air system. I only know a few places that do that. The rest have smokers sitting outside - and in Austin that can be no treat during the summer or the winter.

nonsense, if its banned then all it takes is other people reporting it... the smokers will soon be outside - where they belong

But it may be too difficult to ban it in the whole big building.

Oh yes, i hate second hand smoke too. But i am happy though that lately, the company who owns the mall made a non-smoking room. And the guards are so tight in prohibiting smoking in the mall.

It's a city ordinance here in our city - No SMoking specially in public places. So we have to comply and add a room for smokers only.

that is horrible. here where i live, it is illegal to smoke in city parks, playgrounds, etc. But as for private companies, they each make thier own rules up. the building that i work in, hardly anyone smokes so its not too bad. at most of the hospitals here in my city, you have to be at least 400 feet from any of the entrances. maybe you should petition your boss and see if you can do something like that. second hand smoke is almost as dangerous as first hand smoke. i would do something about it.

To make people quit for smoking is not so easy. That's need cooperation between smokers and non smokers.Even smokers already know that smoke habit is not good for health but need to process to stop.Actually there is a rules in no smoking in the office, hospital, and public relation.why they're still smoking in the corner. They should smoking outside or go far from the office.

This must be very annoying Nobody smokes in the office and you are passive smokers, something should be done about it and smoking should not be allowed indoors. I worked in an office which was next to a mall and they used the same air conditioning system. We smelled fries all the time, it was probably blowing the air from the McDonalds. Feeling hungry all the time is not good either, but still more pleasant than smoke.

I am a smoker, but yes, I agree it should be banned. The state I live in has smoking banned in all public buildings, and you can't even smoke within 25 feet of a public building's door, open window, or vents. As a smoker, I find it annoying, but I obey because I think it is meant to (and does) keep air inside public buildings cleaner for children and non-smoking adults.

I don't smoke and don't like the second-hand smoking, either. On the office door, we have got a sign with No Smoking Office. This sign is only given to those offices where nobody smokes. There are four people in our office and only two smoke. If they smoke, they smoke outside the office in the corridor. It is ok for them to smoke there as it does not affect us much. A few days ago, one of my female colleagues was complaining about two male colleagues keeping smoking in their office. They won't go out of the office to smoke even though they have been asked to by those who don't. She feels frustrated about it because she is very allergic to smoke. She is considering moving to another office where there are non-smokers. Take care.

Second hand smoke is a very serious and real health hazzard. The owner of the building should make only certain areas acessabe to smokers. There should also be real consequences if found smoking in wrong areas. It should be banned. The owner of the building should be notified.

I heard that the second-hand smoking is even harmful than smoking directly.

Youless, same like you when i was still working before, i always suffered the second-hand smoke. Because there is always someone who like to hide and smoke in our toilet. By the time we entered the toilet, we are being welcomed by the smoking smell. Sometimes, it makes me hate to use the toilet in my company. Usually, i would go to the toilet at the other floor which belonged to other company. Sometimes when i was in a rush, so i don't have other choice but to go into my company's toilet with a tissue covering my nose.

People should be more strict about this, i thought smoking was banned in public places. maybe they are just very good at hiding when they smoke, or people are just very lax about this policy.

There are really times when we can not really get away from second hand smoke. In our place there is an ordinance that prohibits smoking in public and also in all government offices. But I cannot say that this is being followed. There are still those who smoke just anywhere they like.

They don't smoke in the office, they smoke in the stairs instead.
