The Irish man's route

Niall the Irish man made a mistake traveling to Iran and then over to Dubai. That was because no ferry went to India from the United Arab Emirates. He had to take a cruise liner one way to India. He went through India to Nepal and stayed a few months there. I just got an email saying he has left Nepal and continuing on his way to China overland. I don't know which of the two routes he has chosen. Route 0ne would be through Tibet which I know would be pricey. The other route through Myanmar would be impossible. I wonder if Niall will find China as cheap as Nepal for a stay for a few months. If you were traveling overland from Europe to Asia which two places would you plan to spend a few months in? Would you choose to travel through Russia, China and Mongolia? Do you think you would choose both India and China in your routing?

I think that the route through Tibet would be a challenge because of the rules and travel permits and because of the price. Myanmar could be an interesting an choice, but it is not an option if you only travel overland, and he wouldn't be allowed to enter the country that way. If I was travelling overland from Europe to Asia I would travel through Germany, Poland, Lituania, Latvia and Estonia and from Estonia I would go to St Petersburg. I would spend some days in St Petersburg and then I would go to Moscow. From Moscow I would catch the train to China via Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia. From China I would continue to Laos, Thailand and Malaysia or go to Nepal and India.
