Would You Buy a Pre-Owned Equipment If It Is Out of Warranty?

Casio Camera - Pre-owned camera

I would like to purchase a camera for my 12 year old to play with. Since he is just starting I did not want to purchase a new one so I decided to purchase a pre-owned camera. The cheapest that I coulkd find was already out of warranty and all I can count on is the guarantee from the seller that it is 100% working. I am not sure if I should go for it or not. If you are in my shoe , would you go for it and hope that it does not break right away or invest more money and purchase a new one. Let me know what you think. Thanks

I would have to feel confident that it is in good working order. If I am used to working with that brand and know this particular item is in good repair then i would be more apt to buy it. And with the knowledge that this will probably only be owned for a short period of time just to learn how to use one and then a better new one would purchased.

How much will be the total savings that you will get once you purchased this second hand camera(same model)? If the difference is not that big, maybe a brand new one will be worth the purchase.

it depends on the reputation from the seller. if you go look on ebay.com it will show a sellers reputation and how many sells the seller has done to get that reputation. if there is plenty of sells under the persons belt and they have at least a 98% positive feedback rating then that's when its well worth it for me. if you just have the persons word or guarantee and nothing else to back it up then i wouldn't buy it used.

I am not really a fan of second hand equipment all the more if they are out of warranty. They could be really cheaper but that is too risky. If I were you I would rather just buy a new one. If you don't have enough money for that then wait till you save some enough for a new one instead of taking the risk. There are times that people waste money because they settle for second hand equipment. Yes they are cheaper but in most cases they break after some time and so you have to spend more to have them fixed and sometimes it is even better to purchase a new one because the cost of repair is just as expensive.

If I may ask how much does that camera cost?If I were in your situation I would go looking for another store or item before I will buy a pre owned item.Buying pre-owned items isn't bad but you can't have the warranty of the item that's the catch there.Plus the fact that what is the reason of the previous owner that he or she is selling the item right? If you want to use a very credible gadget or item don't have second thoughts on buying them besides there are items which are not pre owned but are in good condition and in a reasonable price. Some offer lay away terms in paying for the items and it was under their warranty also ;))try looking for stores at the malls which offers good lay-away terms in paying for the item thus rest assured that the item or gadget is working properly and is under their warranty and you will not worry if it will work or not . :)

It depends on how and where I will be using it. I once bought a second hand blackberry from eBay as a second phone for my other number which is solely for accepting calls and messages from clients for a certain project that will run for 6 months. While this isn't my primary phone, I also made sure that it is in good working condition and complete accessories. I have also bought a second hand camera from a sale of a electronics distributor here. It's been 4 years and until now it's still working. I have passed this on to my sister for her use and practice but the battery has started acting up.

when it comes to camera I would say you buy a brand new one instead of a second hand because though the camera might look good but may be not good when it comes to working. But if you really want to go for a second hand camera then I guess take it with a warranty. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.
