Patches mainly is on an Immuno liquid which is suppose to boost her immune system, also a tube of vitamins (extra which she isnt getting or her body cant take in properly). I bought them a bottle of Salmon Oil, which is good for their coat, and sking (more for winter dryness). She took it before, but it was about $50.00 at the vets, and I got a bottle for $25 at work, so we will see how it goes. I was looking at a few others at work, but I dont want to give them too many. I was going to ask the vets when she goes this week for her checkup. I give them to Stripes, Toppie as well but they dont get sick like Patches. Also, Marco, Max & Gizmoe get vitamins as well.

I have in the past given my cats a liquid supplement by Seargeant's. I am not even sure if it is available any more, but it sure made a difference in the first cat I gave it too, it had essential fatty acids in it, kind of the same thing as your salmon oil, but a lot cheaper. The bottle even had dosing for small animals like rabbits and guinea pigs and caged birds. I would be careful with too many supplements as that is really hard on their kidneys.

Throughout my entire life, I've always had pets and we've never actually been told by our vet to give supplements to our pets. So, this means that I've never given any kinds of supplements to our pets. I have always been the person that does whatever the vet recommends. Our vet has told us that the animals should be fine with the vitamins that they are getting in their diets and that they will really only need supplements if they start to have some issues with their health.

Yes, that is very true. I know Patches has a lot of issues lately, so this is why she gets them. But when I took Marco in for his checkup they told me to give him Papaya pills, and multi vitamin. max & Gixmoe were told to take a Vitamin C. I do give them over the counter aupplements such as fish oil for their coats and heart. Also, an liquid supplement to boost their immune system.

Yes, even if its not low it wont harm you it will just go through your system. My body wont absorb the nutrients and vitamins which is why I have to get it pumped through with an IV. I want to see if it will actually work when I go at the end of October.

I haven't given supplements to my dogs. There was only one time when Tsu-tsu had cough and colds that he was given vit c in addition to his medicines. I only bring my dogs to the vet whenever they are sick.

You should really get them a checkup just like humans we go yearly for a checkup to catch anything ahead of time before it costs more money.

I have never given my cats extra supplements and they have all seemed to do well enough without them. Most of the kitties I have had have lived into their late teens. They have shiny coats and have stayed energetic as they get older. I feel that giving them better quality food can take the place of extra supplements.

You are right, most dont realize what is in their food. But sometimes better quality food doesnt help. I know with mine it doesnt, they get vitamins, and fish oil.

I don't give my cats any type of supplements unless they are sick. If one is malnourished or off their feed a bit, it's alright to give them supplements or vitamins, but if they are healthy, they don't really need them. To many supplements can cause kidney and liver problems. If you buy a well balanced cat food that has all the omega fatty acids and vitamins that should be sufficient, but if you have any doubt speak with your vet. Kittens need a different type of feed than adult cats and older cats need a different type of food than young adults and inside cats need a cat food that has hairball remedy. If a cat is getting the proper nutrition, then there is no need for all those supplements. I hope this was helpful.

I had to give one of my cats long ago something for his skin. It kept getting bad rashes or something, I forget now. But after awhile it got to be expensive, so I stopped and thankfully he didn't have the skin problems anymore. It was good for his hair too.
