Sometimes we hear a lot about a place before we visit it or read about it and when we visit the place in person we get very surprised because the place is totally different from our expectations. I experienced that twice my own country. I was very surpriced to see how small the little mermaid was. I expected it to be a busy place with many tourists, but we were the only tourists. When I visited the southernmost point in Denmark I was also very surprised. The very north of Denmark is a beautiful and popular tourist spot with many Danish and international tourists and I thought that the southernmost point would be something like that, but there is was only a stone (the south stone) and that was it.
Which places in your own country or abroad surprised you visited them in person? In which ways were they different from your expectations? And was it a positive surprise or did you get disappointed?

I was surprised that Brussels wasn't as beautiful or as interesting as Amsterdam. I was really surprised how expensive it was in Oslo and Stockholm. I remember seeing the Little Mermaid in Denmark and thought she was small. I was surprised to see lots of Chinese tourists in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia.
I used to live in Kent and trains going to London had 12 carriages. Here my local trains going from Weston super Mare to Bristol have only 2 carriages. That is not great news during the rush hours. It really disappointed me in 2005 and 2006. Then I got used to it. I prefer the intercity trains to go Weston super Mare, Bristol and London. They can have around 8 to 10 carriages.

Some time ago I read a blog where someone mentioned the most boring cities in his/her opinion and one of the places that they mentioned was Brussels. I have been to Belgium but not to Brussels so I am not really able to compare it to other cities. I am going to visit Amsterdam soon and I look forward to spending a couple of days there. I didn't see any Chinese tourists in Tallinn when I was there, but I think that has to do with the time of the year that I visited Tallinn. There were generally very few tourists at that time. 2 carriages that is not much especially during rush hour. The Danish trains usually have many carriages, but they are still very crowded in the weekends.

Brussels has nice architecture in a central square. Its main site is a funny looking structure in a suburb. I much prefer Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp. You are going to love it in Amsterdam I am sure. I imagine you might have visited Tallinn in the winter. I was there in the summer of 2008.

I would like to visit the Magritte museum and Atomium and mini Europe in Brussels, but aside from that I don't know much about Brussels. Yes, I visited Tallinn in the winter. There was a lot of snow, but very few other tourists. I want to go back to Estonia one day and visit some of the islands in the western part of Estonia. Next time I will go to Estonia in the summer months when it is less cold.

Hi P,
I spent the weekend at Ocean City and I am satisfied about it. I did not expect too much before going there. My co-worker already briefed me what to expect. So, with the little information i have with me prior to coming to OC, made me felt great when I saw the place. It was so relaxing and I had wonderful stay and fun weekend with friends at OC. It was a positive experience but not sooooo amazing! I just love the serenity and simplicity of the place!

Hi! Nice to see you, we haven't talked for a long time. How are you?
It is good to hear that you had a wonderful and relaxing weekend at Ocean City. Sometimes it is nice to stay at peaceful place where we can have a relaxing weekend. I haven't had much to relax in the weekends, because I have been working, but I am going to travel soon and I will get the chance to relax when I go to Asia.
