Battle of law between a legitimate son and an illegitimate father.

Everyone in India is now well aware that DNA test has confirmed the paternity of veteran politician ‘ N.D.Tewari and the honourable Delhi High court has declared Tewari to be the biological father of Rohit Sekhar and Ujjwala Sharma to be the biological mother’. The honourable Delhi High court gave this verdict in response to a petition filed by Rohit Sekhar that he was the product of physical relation of N.D.Tewari with his mother, Ujjwala Sharma. Tewari denied charges against him claiming that he had been framed but unfortunately he could not prove himself innocent before the honourable court. In this context, I cannot resist the temptation of quoting Rohit Sekhar after the verdict of the honourable court-‘I am not the illegitimate son of N.D.Tiwari but he is my illegitimate father’. We all know that Tewari is an eminent political figure of our country. He is a four time chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, former Union minister of India and was also appointed as Governor of Karnataka. So being a political leader at the highest level, he was supposed to bear a good moral character that would be a lesson to the young generation, but if such is the moral character of a national leader of his stature, what the young generation would learn? If the politicians of our country really expect any respect from people, they themselves ought to demand strong action against Tewari. As a common man, I was very much curious to know the views of other political leaders of our country on this issue and expected that in no way they would try to avoid the issue on the lame excuse of familial or personal affair? But unfortunately, all the political parties of our country; be it leftist or rightist, kept total silence over the issue. I am not sure what the present situation is but hope that law would take its own course and have full faith in the honourable court. What’s your view on it?

Yes Doctor Didi. The guy should be made to walk naked in public for the rest of his life..even if he is old. Reason? Well our society must have made the child's life miserable. I can understand the fears and compulsions of his mother considering the powerful post this lecherous man enjoyed. But the society must have looked down upon this child in school, and college and almost everywhere. He must be having a lot of those wounds. So the least his illegitimate father can suffer is public humiliation of equal caliber.

It might be but being a renowned politician, he is expected to possess a good moral character which would be an example to others aspiring for a political career.

I am not surprised by stoic silence of our politicians. Politics is no more about ideals and service to people, it is all about money, muscle and power. Corruption is in, morality is out. Sad reflection of the times we live in. Regarding the case, it is thanks to our Honorable courts that justice has been done. Just a glimmer to hope that even most powerful people have to answer for wrongs committed in the land. ND Tiwari was compelled to comply with court orders. He for years never even gave his DNA sample on one pretext or other. Also, no one can really compensate mother & son for they lives they had to endure because of one powerful politician. We all know how our society treats those considered illegitimate. I wish such people realize the root cause of the problem and go after them and not those who were victims of the crimes someone else committed.

I am learning each day from my friends from India. Although this kind of things happen everywhere, each culture has a way of responding to the problem. I don`t have a view as to what must be done in your country, but I will be reading about what the indian friends answer. In my country, there are clearly two different ways of treating people. People with power can do a lot of things that nornal people cannot. And only yesterday I saw a movie based on a real story about a crime perpetrated by a nephew of Ethel Kennedy. It took 25 years to imprison the murderer and now, after a few years, he`s in for parole.

From whom you are expecting good moral character. It is realty of more over politicians. I hope you know about the Bhawari devi scandle of Rajasthan. At present one former minister and MLA is in prison. The latest scandle is Geetika Sharma and Gopal Kanda former state home minister of Haryana. All parties are silent because" hamam main sab nangey hai"

Yes, you are right. We can no longer expect good moral character from our politicians. it seems it is now a disqualification for a politician to have a good moral character.
