"I Nearly Came A Cropper In Me Crocs!"

Mum can't wear her Crocs for work anymore but she does wear them the rest of the time. She'd go to bed in them if she could lol.
Anyway, she had to visit the Medical Centre on Whitegate Drive this week as she has stuff injected into her eyes (something to do with her cataract removal that was done recently I think) and she told me that she "nearly came a cropper in me Crocs!"
I asked, "Why?"
"I got into reception first time [she usually gets lost as there are many entrances to the building] and my Croc stayed where it was..but my foot didn't!"
So, the force of the foot doing this made her shoot forward, embarrassing herself in front of the receptionist.
I have lost count of the times she has done this..for years and years, not just lately, so she can't use her age as an excuse!

Almost fell out of her shoes, did she??? I used to fall OFF my platform nursing shoes that were popular in the 80s. I stumbled like a drunk and nearly fell in front of the ER doc. I just looked at him looking all weird at me and I said 'fell off my shoes.'.

Yes, platforms do that don't they? I remember actually running in a pair at school and my foot went on its side. Total agony but being so young the pain went after a few minutes.
I'd be moaning for days if that happened now lol.

So now she should understand why she can't wear the Crocs at work I hope. I'm glad she didn't 'come a cropper'. Those things are dangerous. I've heard physicians talk about all of the business they get because of Crocs. Crocs and flip-flops.
They're not good for the feet either. No arch support and the toes have to grip the ground in order to walk and not lose the shoe with each step. This causes extra strain on the ankles.
I haven't worn flip-flops for over 40 years. I do have one pair of Crocs but they are full shoes not slip-ins. No holes anywhere. I wear them in winter with socks.
They kind of look like those old-timey wooden shoes (Holland) that were in the children's picture books.

The reason Mum likes them is she has problem feet and she DID try allsorts to remedy the aches underneath, but nothing worked. Her neighbour suggested Crocs so I bought some for her on her behalf, online.
The style she has are open-backed as she doesn't like her feet enclosed (apart from the trainers she now has to wear for work) but I've witnessed her shoot forwards when the Croc stays still and her foot doesn't. I can't explain why it happens as she wears socks with them.
I've said they look to big for her but she's adamant they're not.

Mum swears by them apparently. Believe me, she tried allsorts to stop the aching underneath her feet and only Crocs sorted it out.
Personally, I can't stand them but if they make her happy..apart from her 'coming a cropper' occasionally..well, that's fair enough lol.

You're right on both counts. Mum has bought some trainers for work though as Crocs with holes in the top are no longer allowed. However, there is a dangerous floor at work that needs replacing and Mum is fed up of telling the woman in charge to get it sorted i.e. getting the maintenance guys in.

She came near getting a cropper. It seems that her shoes didn't fit her well. Why didn't she replace them with another pair of shoes?

She only wears her Crocs outside work. She wears her Reebok trainers for work. She had a day off in order to go to the medical centre, which is the reason why she wore her Crocs. I know what you're thinking though, "Why didn't she wear the Reeboks?"
Well, this is Mum we're talking about here.

That 's just like her.She seems to have a very systematic way of doing things.

does your mum actually like the trainers she had to buy for work? as if she does that's a good step forward, as it might mean she could learn to like something else.
i am very fussy about what i wear on my feet, as i have type 1 diabetes, and i have been warned for absolutely years that i must be careful about my feet, and the message must have got through some how. but i walk a lot as well, so i am very careful about shoes.
i always wear lace up shoes, in winter, or ankle boots, and those flat shoes with a little bar across,in summer, as they are better for the feet as the strap holds them in place.
the trouble with sensible shoes is that they are so caught up in the image of the sensible fuddy duddy older woman with a housecoat on and slacks or a long pleated tartan skirt, and a cardigan. so i can understand your mother not wanting to be turned into one of these people, there is a serious image problem here.
though i am quite a bit younger than your mother, i think, i can still understand the problem, as i old enough to remember that sort of older fuddy woman image, and your mother may well have decided when she was younger that she never wanted to be like that.
but fortunately because flat shoes are quite fashionable now with younger women, its quite easy to get quite fashionable looking lace ups, and flat shoes with a little bar across. new look has a lot of cheap shoes like this, they are a bit too cheap to be worth buying, but you can see the styles, and then find them somewhere else.
so its far easier to find sensible footwear now that isn't caught up in middle aged frumpiness, but the only problem you would have is persuading your mother to try it.

I wear the same footwear as you describe. Uncanny eh? I can't wait for it go colder so I can dig out my loganberry (purple) ankle boots out lol.
Mum has narrow feet so I cannot understand her desire to wear Crocs as they tend to be for wider feet. She has stopped wearing them for work and now wears her Reebok Trainers. She told me they're fine but the floor does need replacing. Apparently, it makes no difference what shoes are worn there is a possibility that absolutely anyone can 'come a cropper' as Mum puts it.
Unfortunately, Mum cannot over-ride the main woman in the kitchen by ringing maintenance in her place.
Put it this way, if Mum falls and she has the correct footwear on..she WILL claim. It's only a matter of time.

Now that is embarrassing! I bet she wanted the ground to swallow her up! I have done this plenty of times in the past wearing flip flops, I lost count the amount of times I would stub my big toe on the ground when my flip flop came off. I used to go swimming a lot and I would wear my flip flops because I was worried about catching veruccas on my feet, but because my feet were wet the flip flops were constantly slipping off!

LOL!
I can't wear flip flops for a number of reasons. My feet are never warm enough to have them on my feet plus they would rub the area between my big toe and the one next to it very badly, as I have really sensitive feet.
Me and Mum..what a right pair we are!

Nope, crocs can do that to you. I have not ever bought any. I need more support.

I tend to wear shoes with laces on them..of with a strap of some kind, otherwise they just slip off.

I need the support of tie on shoes and buckle on shoes. It is better for my knees and back.

hi janey oh your mom has crocs and I hear some people really
love the things. But they slip and slide for her making it
hazardous for her and scaring her a bit too.Nope not her age but maybe she forgets she had this semi accidents. or else she is just is embarrassed to admit she does slide in them. this doesn't mean she is senile at all.people who forget occasionally are not senile just forget probably due to stress just as simple as that.

I've witnessed her do this in her Crocs. In fact, it doesn't matter what footwear she has on her feet she always manages to trip or slide at some point.
We all do it!
