I admit it, I am scared of horror movies...why watch them?

Why do people choose to get scared? I prefer comedies. I choose to laugh. If I see a horror movie I won't be able to sleep. I know, I am a big boy but they still scare me. I feel like the killer is hunting ME! Do you watch horror movies? If you do, do you have trouble sleeping or being alone?

It's fun! I find it interesting to see where the writing will go. I don't like the everyday horror film but I like the odd ball one. I like vamp films that are realistic. I love a good thriller that startles and takes you to a different place. Remember movies are for entertainment.

hi celticeagle I love StephenKings stories that were made into movies as he helped direct most of them they were different from the usual horror movies that I do not watch.

I like afew of his movies/books. Alot of them are very disappointing to me. His monsters turn out to be some idiot clown or a giant spider. Too dumb for me. There are afew really good ones though and his book on writing was excellent. I like imaginative ones.

I endure some zombies, although I find them kind of stupid, but I always forget horror movies are for entertainment somewhere during the movie.

Then what is it you love? Hiding? :) Maybe you should watch them in the afternoon. You will forget by night.

I love horror movies. I have always loved horror movies. I am no scared of them, in fact I do find them quite funny. It just amazes me how stupid people are in those horror movies. I have yet to see a horror movie that would freak me out. But if you are not into them or are afraid, then you should not watch them.

Exactly, don't watch them. I keep replaying the scenes in my head. I prefer repeating jokes than crime scenes.

When I was younger I used to have this obsession with watching horror movies--especially ghost and zombie ones. I guess it sprung from my dad's side of the family who always made me and my sister watch horror movies on Friday nights and it got even worse during the summer. Anyways, when I was in middle school I started to stop watching scary movies, because of all the nightmares I was having that occurred over, and over again every time I went to sleep. It even got to a point where I felt paranoid, and couldn't sleep in the dark or sometimes at all. I first stopped for a whole two weeks and noticed that I had no nightmares. Then I stopped all the way enjoying my non-horror filled dreams. So far it's been a whole six years without horror movies and I don't miss them at all. Comedies I do say are way better.

Comedies are MUCH better! What do you think might happen if you watch a horror movie now? New nightmares?

Well, this fact might sound weird, but I am not afraid of being alone after I watch horror movies no matter I am so frightened. I don't even understand how horror movies scare me more than the real dark places, or the fact that I'm alone in a dark place. Maybe it's because I haven't seen the real ghost.

Would you be scared of a real ghost or a snake?

Well...it's difficult to answer about the snake thing, as I never meet a snake in person. And a ghost, I haven't met it yet either, but I often sense them around. And my brother who can really see them says that I'm right about the presence. I have one or two in my room and I feel alright.

Horror movies with too much blood seem funny because no human has SO much blood that runs like it is water. I don't really believe them. But if the plot is good it really gets me.

I am not scared of horror movies, but I donĀ“t like tem unless they are very well made. I have no patience for movies where the plot is just a lot of gross people (supposedly zombies) who walk around the principal characters during a great part of the movie. Then at the last moment, something absurd happens and they return to where they belong

I know how you feel. I stay away from anything that has horror in it be it a movie or a book. I get nightmares too and even when I'm awake I feel really scared. And I really get irritated when some people just don't understand and make fun of my fears. Worse, they even try to scare me just because they think it's fun.

Haha I was hit by an arrow in this discussion :) I love watching horror movies but it really scares me too since I have a huge and wide imaginations on things. Even though I get scared, I still want to watch it. It kinda feels like, I love the feeling of getting scared sometimes. (That is.. only sometimes) there are also times I prefer to watch comedies other than watching horrors.. Or sometimes, I want to watch dramas and wanted to cry. :D haha It really just depends upon what I feel like to do/ emote with :)

I never feel like watching horror movies. Maybe a psycological thriller. And that's my limit. My imagination works overtime too, so even cats in the street freak me out.

Of course, I do love horror movies. Adrenalin is what makes me keep watching, even when it all looks pretty scary. I think that after a nice horror movie you can better appreciate how safe we really live. Most of these killing freaks are imaginary and it's better that way lol.

Hi! Usually I don't watch horror as I prefer a good comedy or a good drama but occasionally, I'll watch a Hitchcock. Why? Because for me it's 'intelligent scary' vs. 'dumb scary'. I'm not saying that this always the case with more current films as there are some good ones (ex. Legend of Sleepy Hollow) but it would take a tall order to surpass Hitchcock or Vincent Price.

Why do people watch scary movies is the same reason why people love riding roller coasters. For the thrill the rush to finger out who is the bad guy and what are they going to do next or where did this crazy creature came from. I love watching horror movies normally afterwards I do not have trouble sleep and I never sleep alone I'm married and have two kids so someone is always in bed with me at night time.

I'M SO ON THE SAME PAGE AS YOU!!! I almost exclusively watch comedies both in FILMS and TV. I haven't enjoyed a scary movie since I was a kid, back when they were still good. They're not now, they're just a bunch of special effects and gross. I don't like dramas either. I figure I have enough drama in my own life, why do I need to watch it in film or television. I watch movies and T.V. TO GET AWAY FROM REALITY AND ENJOY MYSELF!! I have on occasion taken my kids to those vampire movies like, Twilight. That was the stupidest most boring movie I've ever seen. I object to the what film makers are programing this new generation to enjoy!! I expose my kids to classic comedies as much as possible, everything by Mel Brooks, Stand up comedians, anything funny. After a scary movie as a child, I had trouble walking home, sleeping, swimming in pools (saw a few films with sharks in swimming pools!) Now, I can't remember the last time I saw a scary movie, Oh yes, The Others, that was creepy and scary an unusually good film for the new genre of scary films. The Sixth Sense was eery and scary. But both those films mess with your mind more then actually scare a you. Outside of those two films I can't think of a scary film I've seen recently. Just don't like them much anymore.

I was scared of Jaws as a kid. I wouldn't consider The Sixth Sense horror. Not so scary. Creapy yes. I think that what you are doing with your kids is good, they will learn pure humor. Not dirty jokes.

JAWS scared the mess out of me as a kid too. To this day i don't know why people swim in the ocean. I mean I love the ocean, to look at, but I respect it, and go in about up to knees at the most.lol! Hopefully my kids are appreciating comedy and not rebelling against it cuz I made them watch it!lol We'll see.

I love watching horror movies. I remember watching movies like Hellraiser and Chuckie when I was a child. Because I was exposed to horror movies to such an early age, I do not get scared that easily. But to be honest, I do not watch horror movies to get scared. I enjoy watching them because of seeing strange characters. I have always had a fascination with weird characters, which is probably the reason I also enjoy science fiction movies too. Anyway, I watch horror movies when I get bored with watching too many comedies and action movies. However, I am not too impressed with the mainstream horror movies shown in theaters. For instance, when I watched Paranormal Activity, I actually almost fell asleep. Anyway, I have gone past the phase of getting nightmares from watching horror movies.

You are not getting nightmares because you have horror movie experience :) And that's why you are fascinated by weird characters.
