I thought I was saving money I bought a second hand vacuum cleaner from the store. It worked exactly 5 minutes and then stopped. I have to take it back. But I can't get my money back, I have to buy something in its place. Good thing it was only 19.95.

I just hate vacuum cleaners. I have bought so many of them, new and used, in my life. Most never worked right. Now we have one that my grandson has taken part of the stuff off of but it still works. It's a Bissell. I think I will go with the same when we go to get another one.

Sad to hear about that. but the best thing about it even you did not get a money back, you were able to get another item with the same cost. it is better than you get nothing, right? i used to buy second hand items as well here in our country in an online store.when i get to meet up the owner, i checked everything first before paying for it. sometimes it would take an hour before i pay it. i make sure that i was able to check even the single part of it. i can already see the wrinkles on the face of the owner.loli also ask for warranty so just in case there is a problem, i can return the product, if they also do not have the money back, i can ask for another product with the same cost.

This is the danger with anything second hand. It is really luck of the draw whether you get a bargain or end up buying a problem. I am sure that many people have purchased second hand products and got many years of good use from them, but the potential of a complete breakdown always exists because of the unknown wear and tear that it may have received. Sadly there are never any guarantees or warranties, so in the event of an early breakdown there is no recourse open.

I bought a computer monitor at a yard sale for $20. It worked for one day. From now on I'm going to get warranties or some kind of guarantee that the item will live up to do what it's supposed to do.

I hope that you can find one that will work more than a few minutes. I bought a little vacuum for that price when KMart was still here in town. It lasted me for years. You could take it off the wand and handle and use it as a hand vac. I used to vacuum my car with it. After about 5 years it kinked out. It was well worth the money I paid for it new. It was great on carpet and bear floors. It was a Ereka.

I'm not sure if it can help too much, but, buying old things for a cheap cost can give some experience in fixing them. They get out of order soon and you can open them up and see what's wrong. Maybe you can fix it yourself or maybe you can ask someone to see what's wrong and fix it. My dad buys 2nd hand cars and they get problems often. We go to fix them in the garage. We know one or two things about fixing problems in the car and that's good to learn a skill or two. Eventually, the fixing and the money are more expensive than just buying a new car that doesn't get problems.

If he can fix it, ask him to show you how it works, I know you have some knowledge in science, you might be able to fix it in the future. I think you just need some basic knowledge with electricity. Maybe there was a part that got burned or fall down and the electricity cannot pass through the circuit.

Wow!! They would not give you your money back or nothing? Even though you were only able to use it 5 minutes? Either they never tried it out, or are a bad place to deal with. Personally for a Business this is not good business practices, and hope that place did try and make up for it, instead of offering Bad business.

I had a little handheld shark vaccuum my mother gave to me after my handheld dirt devil stopped working. I loved that handheld dirt devil it was perfect for cleaning small areas like throw rugs and stairs with carpet. I was really upset when it broke because I used it all the time and they didnt sell them anymore. I tried the shark one and it was just junk it filled up so fast and it just had suction not spinning bristles and the suction was so weak. I gave it back to my mother after the first use. She didnt like it either thats why she gave it to me.

Oh I hate it when I buy 2nd hand and it turns out bad! At least you got a store credit but still...cash back would be better. I'm sure you are a bit apprehensive now of anything you buy out of there at this point. A few years ago, I bought a humidifier 2nd hand off a man who dealt with 2nd hand stuff. I knew him and trusted him. He is the one that got me this very very comfy couch. Well, the humidifier worked pretty much like your vacuum only I don't think it even lasted the 5 mins. He would of given me my money back but I just told him to hang on to it and find me another. He passed away shortly after so I was out the 15.00. Oh well...chance you take I guess. I have to say that for the most part, I have had good luck with this sort of thing. I bought a tv for 40.00 about 13 yrs ago and it still works! It's on it's way out but I think I more than got my money's worth for it.

I wouldn't be too happy about something like that. Hope you are able to exchange it for something that does work or that will be useful to you.

I bought a small shark vaccum, it comes apart into a hand one or you can get it for a standing one. It was about $20 or so dollars when I bought it a few years ago. It worked really well only issue I had was having to empty the small compartment so often.

Sharks is a really good brand, I've never had an issue with it (and usually I can't find something wrong with each company). I also have a steam mop from them as well, which I love and all natural (just uses water).
