My boss and I were at her place after work when she picked up her messages.
When she listened to one of them, she was shocked. She told me that her ex was in jail being held on a serious charge.
She called the number that was left for her spoke to someone who said that the lawyer would have to call her back.
We both wondered what he had done. She thought it was fraud, and I said assault. I then said, maybe it was attempted murder he tried.
She told me that there was no way he would have done anything like that, he just wasn't like that.
Well, she called me after I got home and said yes, indeed it was attempted murder. It turns out that when he was talking to some guy, the guy came at him with a knife, and the ex turned around and defended himself.
How one is charged with attempted murder for self defense is beyond me. But then again, it seems to me that the police may have pulled the racism card in this case. Not sure exactly, but that's what it sounds like to me.
How would you feel if your ex was charge with attempted murder?

I actually have an ex that was charged with attempted murder and I wasn't surprised a bit. He was physically abusive to me and he choked his new girlfriend until she passed out. He ended pleading the case down to felonious assault and ended up being found not guilty, because they said they didn't have enough evidence, no witnesses, etc. But I know that he did it. He had done it to me before, so I know for a fact that she wasn't lying.
It depends on the situation of how you might feel about it. If he's already a bad guy then it shouldn't surprise anyone. But in a case of self-defense, then no, one should not face any charges. But then again, that could just be his story. Or it's just his word against the other guys. I hope that it is not a case of racism. My husband was arrested on bogus charges before and we ended up suing the county and won (it was only less than $1000 for lost wages, but it was the principle of the whole thing). They arrested him on a bogus warrant for child support that was a screw up in their system, and I believe that it was racially motivated.
I hope that if he was truly defending himself that they let him go because that's just not right.
