John Must Wonder Why He Bothers Sometimes

I feel so sorry for him when he gets shafted at work, today being a prime example.
Now, he's the main person responsible for the Carlisle United Programme that comes out every time the team plays a home game (every two weeks or thereabouts) and a perk of the job is that he gets a free ticket to a home game. This makes up for all the hassle of deadlines, etc, that this task entails as he receives no extra money for it. John is the only person who is able to construct the programme in the small time-frame allowed.
What's happened today?
Well, all 8 free tickets that H & H (who own Reeds Printers now) have from Carlisle United have gone to the DIRECTORS and I bet most of them pass them on to friends and family or won't bother going themselves.
I think it's appalling the way he's treated. He's got a brilliant rapport with the Media Officer at Carlisle United and I reckon he should contact him about his poor treatment from H & H. I don't know why John doesn't set up on his own as he has LOADS of contacts who deal with him personally.
I'd love it if HE shafted THE DIRECTORS for a change!

He is good at what he does, but perhaps he needs the security of working for someone else. It is a shame that he gets treated so poorly. I do hope that eventually the directors get left in the lurch somehow.

It doesn't help when H&H post 'record' profits that have gone up year on year for the last 5 years. The workers at the printing firm where John works didn't even get a bonus last time as profits were 'down.' Highly suspicious if you ask me. A company that can take over another company in such a casual way can also drop them too.
Mind you, the team lost 4-0 today so at least the Directors didn't see any Carlisle goals go in!

I'm sorry to hear that he is treated that way. It is really aweful. He should definitely call the Media Officer and let them know how he is being treated. Some people just do not care or think about how they treat other people. Which is so sad. I hope that he will be able to talk to someone about this so that he will be able to get the proper treatment he deserves.

At least the team lost but it still didn't make him feel any better..probably worse actually as one of our ex-players scored one of the goals!
You're right about the Media Officer. John has a good rapport with him and I said he should speak to him about the ticket thing..he won't though as he doesn't want to put him on the spot.

I Janey I d o feel for your hubby as some of those tickets should
have gone to him not the bigwigs who would probably not even use them.Could he go out out on his own as he has loads of contacts? suggest it to him and see if he would like to do
that himself?yes that would be fun for you to see him shaft the directors for a change.

If John branched out on his own it would cost a load of money, especially for printing machines that the current firm he works at rely on. If the banks were lending like they used to he'd probably be tempted.
He's had a few cheeky wins on the horses today though..under strict supervision from 'Yours Truly' of course.

Its not fair at all you think the person who worked hard to make sure the programme got made in time could have one little perk. It's not like there wasn't enough tickets to go around if they had given him a ticket there still would have been seven tickets to go around the directors. If I was in charge of a company I would try and run it in a fair way,so in this case I would make sure whoever put in the time and effort to do the work got the reward. And any left over tickets could then go to the directors.

Well at least the team lost 4-0 so it wouldn't have been an enjoyable afternoon for him anyway..still, it would be nice to be thought of more positively.

If there was a list of the top ten reasons why an employee loses their drive; I would say being shafted would be one of the top reasons.. It sounds like he puts his heart and soul into his job; a wonderful quality for an employee.. I can understand your frustration. At home behind close door you see the and hear all of the should ofs, would ofs, could ofs and the if onlys... But says nothing at work or when he is around coworkers.. Just has the postive attitude followup with a smile... Dont really have any suggestions to help you help John stand up for himself at work... All I can say is just allow him to vent to you; sometimes it may make you infuriated, but its best to try to hide the full extent of it.. why? If you take yourself out of your shoes for a mintue and put on his shoes... He works hard at work, and is not apperiated.. To see the full extent of your frustration just put him between a rock and a hard place.. Even though it is; and will be hard support him how ever you can.. I hope one day the company realizes how unfair they are treating John.. Good luck and God Bless you both;-)

Thank you so much! Yes, it actually helps John to vent his frustration when he is home from work and I DO listen to him too. If he had to bottle up his feelings like he does at work (although he was really annoyed at the ticketing situation) he's probably suffer mentally..so I make a very good sponge..and give him support when he needs it.
I only wish he was rewarded for all his efforts as he did the same at his previous employers and the place shut down after 200 years of being in existence. This is always at the back of his mind but I told him that NO-ONE is indispendable; it's just not how companies work now, unfortunately.
The management there isn't interested because once they got taken over each of them got a £1,000,000 payout, so they just sit there and count the cash.

The H & H went too far. Everyone should feel hard done by if they are in John's shoes.I reckon the reason why John was forced to keep his resentment to himself is that he was afraid that they would deliberately make things difficult for him at work.
