If you were the umpire, judge, captain, what-so-ever, would you judge based on merits of the players, or would you be influenced by national pride?
Honest answers please, helps in deciding whether I am right in saying national pride should take a backseat if both countries agree to compete in such an event.
Of course, I am saying this based on Sur Kshetra. I think Trikha there was lifeless, and the Indian girl contender absolutely not worth inclusion in the team. So the rough edges are evident when Himesh Reshamiya desperately tries to demoralize the Pakistani singers by indicating their flaws while he does not have similar adverse remarks to offer about Indian singers. That is not sportsmanspirit Mr. Reshamiya. That is admitting your team is not good enough. If you want Pakistani's to improve, you need to tell Indian singers also where they are lacking. Moreover, it is forcing Atif Aslam to try similar tactics, though he is a gentleman who is aiming his barbs at veteran instead of the budding youngsters.
As to Asha Bhonsle, I wished she would not have said Hamara Dil bada hai, and all that. When the Indian contestant started crying on stage yesterday, it was not she or Reshamiya who got up and walked up to her, but Atif Aslam who felt sorry..after all, it was Reshamiya's fault for having selected the child for such type of competition and not the girl's.
In place of Gajendra Singh..the task of picking the right persons for this competition would have gone to Suresh Wadkar ji, and not Reshamiya. I would have delayed the show for getting dates from Suresh Wadkar ji.
In contrast, the condidates in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012 impress..a lot..god bless them..
Do you watch the musical shows?

Hi vandana! I did not have a clue what your topic was about. So I searched for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012 and found the show from 10-13-2012 on youtube. I also searched for the names you mentioned and managed to identify 2 of them (I think
). They don't say much in English so I can't follow it too well. But I am watching it now, instead of doing my surveys. So far I've seen the first 11 minutes of it but nobody is crying yet.
To answer your question though, I don't think national pride should get in the way of judging the merits of these singers. They should be judged solely on their talents. And your other question. No, I do not watch any TV. I don't like reality shows and mostly what I used to watch was Animal Planet and nature shows. And the channels that had old movies (pre-1950). I had the TV service shut off more than a year ago. And now I find that was a good thing because I have no time for it anyway. I'm not getting notifications so it's very difficult and takes more time to find and respond to things. A lot of members are complaining about that in different discussions. But I find I learn things all the time from your discussions and I don't want to miss them.
And what was that about where the snow is there are other whites who live there that I could make friends with? Now you are pushing me out in some God forsaken wilderness far away from you???
Kidding, of course. I go to sleep with pleasant thoughts of India dancing through my mind. :-)

Oh dear... Pls do your surveys...
Yes, when it comes to music we need to judge based on the music and not based on national pride. And we should not demoralize others finding something or the other to criticise about them, while simultaneously overlooking the flaws of people from our country. That is so mean!
deazil, I am getting the notifications, but there is no power in my room for almost 10 hours now. :) So I rarely come here. :)
As to India..yes...I already mentioned a few hill stations, you might wanna look at Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal areas for some pleasant places to settle down in my country. :)

To be competitive is fine, to be unfair is wrong, and to be patronizing for wrong performances is wrong, and to criticize a good performance is also wrong..I feel. The show has all those wrongs in built therein. And yesterday I found the Pakistani captain also indulging in the same practices as Himesh Reshamiya has been doing all along. Either you be loyal to music, or you be loyal to country. Both are mutually exclusive. Here victory is based on music, so music should get its due importance, I feel.
A couple of times Asha Bhonsle's decision were marginally unfair. Abida ji is playing it fair, and Runa Laila is playing it very fair, so Asha Bhonsle should also prove herself to be fair because she is a very good singer. It does not matter if it results in Pakistanis winning the match. After all, it is only music. But if she is fair, we would win hearts. They would say Indians are fair, and not cheaters..but if we win wrongly, we would get that name. We would get that name even if we win it rightly..:( So time to be straight, isn't it?

I do watch musical shows...well on matter on national pride should not disturb the smooth flow of musical artistry. Foe the essence of music will be gone of that's the case.

If the object is to create amicability, then fair play is essential, which goes out of window once too often in our show. Music will survive long after nations are gone, so the only way nations and people can keep their names alive is by being fair and right. What is there to lose? A few thousand dollars.
