Documents are precious and we can't avoid to lose them. If your documents are stored in your computer, you better not ignore backup files for you don't know when computer viruses destroy your files. One thing I want to hear from my lot users around the world is a remedy against computer viruses that is unique, powerful yet cost lesser that the popular antivirus in the market. Any idea?

There's a lot of free antivirus software ready for download in the Internet, the like of AVG, Avast, Avira and Microsoft Essentials to name a few. It's free so it cost you nothing. Backing up files is a good practice that keep your important data safe if ever your antivirus software fail to do its job, better do it on a regular basis. Most of all, avoid going to shady or dubious websites, viruses and trojan usually lurks there. Keep safe by sticking to well establish sites like Facebook, Yahoo, Mylot and the like. Safe surfing!

thanks romzee for joining in. You have mentioned several anti virus which I also think are quality anti virus bodies. As I was telling to one lotter here, I was in at the mall 5 hours ago and I happen to inquire to a software vendor what kind of anti virus is the best and he recommend Norton. Maybe you can also add in your list.

Ah okay, yes norton is not as free as avast. I am now using the trial version of ESET to see if this is a good one to try but diffidently, I will go back to AVAST after the trial version expires.

Computer viruses are hard to tell whether or not they are hitting your computer's system... the only way you would know is that it somehow crashes some inputs on your computer (hardware, software etc.) Although viruses in computers are rampant there are tons of ways on how to prevent it. The simplest way is to install a reliable anti-virus software... regardless of it's price, or popularity an anti-virus software is the most reliable way to get your system protected. Other than that, you can prevent your computer from viruses by putting restrictions on your internet browser/system. In a way it will help you get rid off viruses from internet/online sources.

When I had my first IBM laptop, it often got infected with some virsuses very easily. I installed virus-killing software. After seven years of its use, it came to an end in 2009. Now I am using another IBM laptop and it does not get infected any more because I am using 360 virus-killing software and it helps protect my computer, which is safe and sound. It is a free software. I love it for its great help and protection to my laptop. Take care, jdalaqui.

Hi williamjisir, I appreciate you posting in. I am interested in that 360 killing virus, is that a brans or you just coined it for an anti virus. I will check it the internert, maybe I could find one. That seems very interesting.

I think that it is impossible to have a permanent solution. Viruses are being created almost everyday. The only method that you can protect yourself is get a good anti-virus and anti-malware. But then again it's the viruses that make these applications sell like pancakes. Although, I don’t back-up mot of my files into my computer, I do have an external device to keep all the files that i don't use much. Even if my computer memory is more than adequate, it is good that I don't have to navigate so many folders. But I do endorse backing-up and regular computer maintenance.

I'm afraid there is actually no remedy (I believe) against computer viruses. New virus programs are being developed from time to time, and I believe that even the developers of antivirus (software) programs do also develop viruses to increase their sales. There are somehow ways how to prevent viruses from spreading through your computer system. This is what I do: I disabled the autorun feature of my computer system. I use USB Vaccine (freeware) to immune my flash drive from the auto-spread (autorun.inf file) of a virus (though the main file of the virus can still be stored within the flash drive, it will not be automatically triggered when inserted to a computer). I use Avast! Free Antivirus to clean the remaining file(s) of the virus within my flash drive. When I'm having an important document/executable file in my flash drive, I compress it to .zip or .rar. I haven't seen any virus program that have entered a compressed file yet. My computer unit is virus-free since I bought it (for 2 years now). I also don't visit malicious sites (since Avast! has a web reputation program which can determine the trust rate of the website, I can avoid sites that have low reputation) and do not download anything from anywhere. Keeping your Windows Firewall on is also recommended. Sorry if I have to use computer jargon because I don't know how to express it on a simpler way. In my opinion: There are no antivirus programs (whether free or paid) that can totally secure a computer system. Some virus programs (especially when developed in batch) can not be detected by any antivirus programs.

Thanks for a well written response for the post. I guess this is very interesting and helpful just like the other responses. I will also try to do your tip about the USB vaccine, thanks for mentioning it.

I had problems with viruses even with a virus protection, but since I got a Linux computer witch doesn't need a virus protection program, I have no problems. I think Ipads work well too.. I hope you find a solution..

hi buenavida, thanks for joining the discussion. Thanks for sharing about linux. Linux is good but is it user friendly? I saw lots of linux that are free since they are open source but I think average computer use like me can't really use all the features. may be you can enlighten us more about linux.

While you turn on your computer virus are surrounding your files. There's no more remedy to avoid from any viruses. Unless you always turn off your computer. We cannot avoid but we can minimize. As you said better to have back up always on your files, which I highly agree. I have an external which a capacity more than a computer. I always careful my files. My laptop already crashes but my files on my external still save.

You're right julyteen. I was in the mall a while ago asking the vendor what kind of antivirus is good today and he recommend Norton. I need to try it because I lost many important files already and I can't afford that to happen again.

Backing up your file and document is a good habit to have for every computer users, one shouldn't disregard the risk of no back up file in his computer, a virus can wipe up every thing that is not back up.

hi lampar, thanks for joining in. I can still remember the frustration of my wife when we lost all the pictures stored in our computer. So she said I need to back all files specially our photos and videos in a Disk though it's not really convenient way of backing up files. One thing my wife do is storing her photos by way of sharing it to social network pages.

Hi, Since I can't get rid of viruses infecting our system, I always make a back up of my important files on a DVD-RW disk that can be downloaded after reformatting the HDD in case of extreme virus attack. Which brings us to issue of having a re-installation OS and chipsets of the mainboard at hand. Takes time to do it though, and should be done by a trained technician. Other alternative for very important files is to store them on offline systems, away from online hackers and bad elements. Lastly, operating systems are less prone to attacks if upgrades are installed regularly, 64-bit OS less prone or one may opt for the more expensive MAC OS, or Linux/Unix based OS, which are freeware and available online. Some antivirus software do offer good protection but up to a certain extent only. No matter how good it is, viruses always find a way to bypass them.

Thanks rog for commenting here. you are saying that no matter what the anti virus we use, viruses has their own way of intruding and evading our computer system. Could it be possible that the manufacturer of anti viruses are creators of virus as well? just a wild imagination from my desk.
