In some country, some people signed documents for DNR or do not resuscitate. In medical practioners, they automatically grant their patient's wish, not to revive their lives after they crashed during treatment. Do you think it contradicts the main principle of supposed to be of saving lives?

Shavkat, it is something we all have personal believes on and I do respect everybody's view because sometimes it is based on personal experiences. Personally I think it does contradict. I think everything about life is linked with an abstract emotion called called hope. Hope is that string that holds several beads or desires together. To die is very easy Shavkat. Why use medical professional for that? If it is the prolongation of life without any quality of life then it is like giving up hope. Who knows new developments might make life worth living again? So I am for letting the medical professional do his or her duty without any conflicts.

That's what I am thinking. Why do we need to refrain ourselves from saving lives. Thanks

One thing i know is that, the only one who has the right end ones life is the one who gave us LIfe. If our sick is still breathing because of the resuscitator , then let it be , wait for Gods will and not the human will.

Angelpink, I am going to disagree with a small sentence there..though I might be quoting out of context. You said the one who gave us life. I think mother or father do not have right to kill us. And if it is god you mention, then I have to agree there..it is our duty to keep the person alive..till god does whatever is deemed fit.

I think it contradicts the principle of life and the right for one to live. But, we really can't do anything about it since that is the preference and wish of the person dying or even the family. What we can do as someone who saves lives is to respect that.

I think it depends on what country. It is not possible here. But then, we need to respect of what they really preferred about the fact.

I am completely in favor of having a dnr order. In fact, the next time that I visit my family doctor, I do intend to have one drawn up. The reason that I feel that these are so important is because of the fact that my father experienced a cardiac arrest seventeen years ago and because he didn't have a dnr, they revived him. This left him in a coma for almost a month before the rest of his body gave up. The reason I want a dnr isn't because of my own selfishness, instead it is because of the fact that I do not want my husband and children to have to go through the prolonged suffering of losing a loved one that I had to go through as a teenager.

I have been working on med transcriptions and most of our clients deal on elderly patients in their respective healthcare facilities. DNRs are established or signed by patients or family or POA as the case maybe with regards to assessment of illnesses mostly being at terminal stages that conservative or aggressive procedures would not be practical due to slow or inability to heal or recuperate especially at advanced age, and also the quality of life issues after such treatments failed to relieve pain symptoms. DNR is an option, a choice, and it is well explained to be mutually agree upon.
