The Colour Navy Blue; What's The Point?

I don't know anybody who suits navy blue..perhaps guys in the er..Navy..but that's about it. I've lost count of the times I've picked a garment up off the rack and asked Mum, "Is this navy blue or black?" "I dunno, I can't tell!" she would say. My point exactly. Bearing this in mind, if I couldn't TELL that it was either navy blue or black I'd put that garment back on the rack...just in case it was navy blue! What colour goes with navy blue? No, I can't think of one either. Such a pointless colour, in my opinion. I remember one year I had to get out of M&S 'cos all their stock seemed to be in navy blue..or was it black.. I couldn't tell. Grey is a good colour; there are FIFTY shades of that. Haha!

I happen to like Navy blue. I like it with fuchsia or red especially. Yellow is pretty spectacular with it as well. For some people Navy is more flattering than black. It makes me look less sallow.

Yes, I'm beginning to see its usefulness more and more as this discussion progresses. It doesn't help though, when stores often have a sea of navy blue..but no other colours with it. If more colour were to be introduced in the displays I might be swayed to buy more navy blue. I did have a pair of navy blue leggings and wore a bright yellow top with it..and you're right, the colours DID look spectacular together. I love the colour yellow; makes me smile just thinking about it!

well, i like to wear both navy and black but not at the same time. i like to wear a lot of different shades of blues but i really don't like wearing black and blue together because i end up looking like a giant bruise! lol!

A 'giant bruise' is a very good description and accurate too! I wonder why bruises are navy blue? You've got me thinking now!

When I was at secondary school my uniform was a navy blue and white striped blouse, a navy blue jumper and a gray skirt. Only the color white looks nice with navy blue. I like the color black and know it goes well with almost any other color. My disabled son wears a navy blue cardigan, a white shirt and he has a choice of navy blue, gray or black trousers. I give him gray trousers. Sometimes two navy blue items look awful next to each other.

Yes, I know what you mean. The navy blue suit I borrowed off Mum that time would've looked hideous if I'd worn er..a navy blue top underneath. Fortunately, the cerise one made the whole look a lot better. I wore blue skirts at school but they weren't navy, more of a tealy-blue. The cardigan I wore over a check white and blue blouse was a very bright blue, a colour I still love today but it's nowhere to be found in the shops. The best thing about the blouse was that we didn't have to wear a tie, something that was quite radical in the early 80s!

I'm not overly fond of it, either. I think that my navy blue skirt is one of the least worn of all of my skirts. Hmm... Although, it would look rather great with my one lacy white blouse. I've never actually paired those pieces together, but I think that I need to do so the next time I go to services or something. I do like black a lot better, though. It seems more flattering on me, and it just speaks more to my sense of style.

It's funny how we've been thinking more about what navy blue actually goes with..which is a good thing. I reckon you should dig our your lacy white blouse and team it with your blue skirt, like you said. You never know, you might like it!

Yes,it is hard to tell the navy blue from black sometimes. Here,Most working clothes are navy blue, because they don't show the dirt.

How interesting! My Dad used to have (not quite navy) blue dungarees and he looked oh, so cute in them. I'm not sure if he can wear them now but I bet he hasn't thrown them away!

I actually like the color navy, but only when you can clearly tell it's a blue and not a black. My prom dress was actually sort of navy and it was really pretty. When I wear navy tops or tank tops I'll usually wear white shorts so there's a bit of a contrast as opposed to wearing denim jeans and a navy top..which is sometimes too dark depending on how light or dark the jeans are.

Yes, I do know what you mean. I should imagine a navy prom dress would actually look really nice..something a bit different from pink lol. A shiny navy material would shimmer, I would think..it would look like a midnight blue sky. Oh dear, I'm being converted!

It was a very classy color and it had some beading just under the chest. It didn't look black at all. That's the only time I like navy..when you can clearly tell it's a blue and you don't have to wonder if it's black or blue lol.

Hey! I happen to be wearing a navy blue sweater at the moment. Granted, when I first got it, I thought it was black, but after a couple washes (it's cotton) it's easy enough to tell that it's navy. As for what goes with navy: white, light blue, red, pink...

The thing in shops is..and M&S is the biggest culprit. When they have a sea of navy blue they rarely put another colour together with it. That's down to the customer..and after a few failed attempts I give up. If everything was 'there' I'd go for it..the whites, the light blues, red, pink..

Not ever liked it myself either. Rather pick the black. Actually most colors that go with black will suit navy blue. Not purple, though. I don't like purple either.

I like grey but i did not know it had so many shades. i would like light blue suit it and for the information I myself can't make out navy blue. It is like almost black .. So lemon green would go with it too. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

Personally, if you ask me blue is blue, red is red, pink is pink and brown is brown. I don't see a point in having a million different names for the slightest change in the shade of color. The world would be so much simpler if we could just say "Oh, that's blue." Instead of us being like "Oh, that's blue" "No, that's NAVY BLUE!" Like I said, blue is blue. I do agree with you, there is no point in the color 'Navy Blue', let's just keep it simple and have 'blue'!
