I wanted a special salad for a friend...

Today I had one of my closest friends for lunch. She was bringing part of the lunch and I would make a couple of salads. Yesterday I was checking online what could I do with mint as this Spring mint has taken over part of my garden. I came across this Arabic salad (Tabule) with burgol, tomatoes, bunch onions, mint and parsley. I was wondering myself how it would taste. I have eaten it elsewhere, but this was my own concoction. It turned out yummy! I made enough for four people and we ate it all. I have learned and made a lot of salads these last years that I never knew they existed before. Do you check the web for new recipes once in a while? Are you willing to try new food when you have company? Share!

I make tabuleth[ I think the Libanese pronounce it this way] quite often, here in Australia is a very common salad and yes I always look for new recipes and ideas to impress my friends!actually you can make a salad with almost any thing!and that is the beauty of it.

I know! I have been using flowers lately for the touch of colour in salads. There are lots of eatable flowers.

I love to try new food too. In this case I had eaten this salad elsewhere, but I think mine came out better that the ones I had eaten before. I`m very happy with the results of it. I think that I put more fresh mint and that made it better.

Here they spell it tabouleh but it is the same thing and I really like it. My sister puts lemon juice and finely chopped cucumbers in hers as well. I do look online for recipes, and have a lot of fun trying new ones. I would come eat your salad anytime.

I put that too to mine although the recipe didn`t ask for cucumber. But I had half a cucumber and decided to dice it. I like to read recipes, but I usually add or take away an ingredient depending on my fancy and what is in the fridge. You are welcome, dear, to my home. And we could do some gardening before or after lunch

Yep, I cook every day. Since my rememberer isn't running in high gear like it once did, I get all of my recipes from the web nowdays. I don't think we've eaten the same menu twice in over six months. I use allrecipes.com mostly. My recipe box there is chok'd full of good stuff. You ought to give it a look.

I have never heard of that salad until now, but it sounds flavorful. I'm willing to give it a try. And since I am just starting to cook (as a semi-newly we'd and living on our own), I always refer to recipes online for easy to cook meals. Nothing ambitious for me yet. And since I don't have the skills that I can actually cook something really good, I don't think I am that confident to cook meals I haven't tried before to my visitors. But I guess if it's just immediate family like my mom or my siblings, I guess I can use them as taste testers, haha!

The bourgol (it`s called couscous in some brands) is something you wash and give it a boil. It`s all said in the package. And the rest of the ingredients are diced. It`s so easy that I think I`ll start doing it often. I ate a lot while tasting the salt and pepper.

Sounds great, and yes, you are now getting spring veggies. Enjoy.. I have eaten burgol or couscous a long time ago. Maybe it was in southern Spain. The first time I ate it when a friend from Tunisia cooked it and served with the dinner. Thanks for reminding me - it can be used with almost any food..

I have eaten it as a side dish for meat (hot) and it seems it`s called couscous. This salad is called tabule and it is made with the same wheat. Both are yummy although they taste completly different.

I started wanting the tabuleh, Jo. I had the ingredients. So I just checked how much of what would I have to use. At the end, I mostly followed my taste.

I have started to check a lot of things on the web and several of them come from talking to friends here about something. Many times I learn something about friends from other places and cultures and want to know a little more.

Marg, sounds quite delicious that new found recipe. But, i haven't tried out this recipe yet. I do occasionally check out the recipes online, when i want to cook sometimes special for my family. At least, we won't have to eat the same recipe on special day. Indeed, i am always will try my best to cook something different when i welcome some guests to my home. Now, it had been quite long i haven't welcome anyone to my home yet.

AS I live alone, I love to have people at home and I invite often. My closest friends help me a lot to take the dishes to the table and clean up later so all I have to do is to cook something nice and I love to cook. I have discovered that I can cook cheap and yummy, so it`s not such an ordeal. This salad is filling, beautiful and yummy

I suppose that it depends on how expensive it is to buy prepared food where you live. I like food that is very yummy so I could only buy them at very expensive places. I would rather make the food myself as I`m a good cook.

A salad from internet. - We eat salad a part of food.
Yes for a variety, for a change in taste and look of a recipe, we can search in internet.

I often use different colours for my slads, as the picture you have there. Sweet peppers help a lot and I have lately learned to use flowers.

Wondering how you have taken the challenge of making a salad that could have been a bad recipe to you.

I had tried it elsewhere a couple of times although none were as good as mine. It could have been not as good though. I am a good cook so I`m able to see whether a recipe will be good or bad. In fact, in this recipe I got the ingredients, but used the amounts that I thought were better. And, last but not least, I also made a raw zucchini salad and had tomatoes just in case.
