Today not all you see outside that begging or asking for help are true. I mean there are many scam that forcing children to beg or work for them. I has a soft are for the chilren and old ones, when thry ask for a single cents or help I try my best to give back. Yet as of today there are many people or beggars who just acting to be. I prefer to give food or thong to them than give money. Last time I gave them books for the children and food for the old ones.

I never give a cent no matter how heartbreaking the kids may look like. And I fon't usually have anything that would be of value to give them so I don't give them anything at all. If I have spare change and I'd usually drop some coins on the Red Cross (or is it Bantay Bata?) cans they put near the MRT ticket booths. Manned by a representative from the group. I feel they are more legit because why would the management of MRT allow them if they are just scam? If I want to help more I got friends who'd usually hold a feeding program for kids in the orphanage. That's the safest way to give to charity and know exactly where your money is going.

That is true as well yes. And like stated in the discussion you might be just giving your money to the syndicates.

You are doing the right thing by not giving money to beggers. Giving them means encouraging them to beg which I think is making them lazy to look for employment. They are better ways in channelling donation.

Yes, I agree, most children who are begging for cents or money on the streets came from those syndicates which uses the children to beg forcibly. And we can not distinguish anymore which of them are true or not. One thing is for sure, they are very pitiful.

I was shocked to see small kids as young as five years old begging during heavy traffic in Manila city. In that kind of situation I wonder whether there were any incident of being run over by cars while they were begging.

We really can't tell which kids really needs help or which kids are run by syndicates. Hopefully our DSWD will do something with this.

Thanks for this discussion, begging has become a profession now, there are beggars who live a lavish life; some even pay income tax, some steal guys/girls; disfigure them and force them to bag in railway stations, temples etc i never give money, i give food and ask them to eat

I also am avoiding to give money to beggars, especially children, no matter how pity I feel for them. Because I saw one time that some of them just bought contact cement out of the coins that they have gathered. This will just ruin their brains. One time, I noticed that the children staying near the traffic light became regular as I already see them everyday running and begging to the vehicles when the traffic is on stop. So one day, I bought some bread and told my husband to stop for awhile so I can call them. They were happy to receive them.

I only give food and stuff to street kids on some rare occasions. Reason being is, I don't know for sure if they really are needy, or they have parents who just don't care about their own kids and what they do the whole day. I would rather make some donations in accredited charities or institutions which really take care of the affairs of orphans, abandoned kids and impoverished families. Also, if I will always give one thing to these kids every time I see the, they might just get encouraged and therefore will never leave begging on the streets.

We have this Anti mendicancy law, where we are not allowed to give something to these kids in the street or those begging in the street. It's really not safe for anybody to beg especially in the streets where there are a lot of reckless drivers.

I often see the beggars like you said, too . It's really awful that children are forced to do that. I think these children must have no parents or be cheated by the other people. I hope government should take messures to prevent these things from happening.

Although we already have this Anti-mendicancy law in our country, there are still some beggars that continue to beg in the streets. Our government also is not very strict with this law.

Yes there are people that make a living off of the fat of others.. Some are right out front for people to see.. And others are more sly about it; play games to get what they are seeking.. If someone needs help I usually go to the source of the problem and pay directly.. Or go buy what the person needs; so then they do not spend it on something foolish.. It really depends on who is asking...

Yes, I prefer to give in kinds rather than money. Long time ago I gave money to the destitutes, and the poor. But not any more. Today, those children with no legs or old folks with deformed arms or limbs are made use of by syndicates. Those cruel syndicates kidnapped children and broke their limbs and forced them to beg. Those syndicates are multimillionaires. So I will rather give them food.

Books could be given when these kids asked in your homes because it's really hard to bring a lot of books to give out when there are a lot of children or adult beggars in the street. Yes, it's good to give material things rather than money because we might not know where they use the money.

I agree! I also prefer giving foods to beggars rather than giving money to make sure that they will be the one who'll benefit for it. :)

I also prefer to give material things or just food rather than money. For they could spend it somewhere else. Obviously, those material items and food items can only be consume and less likely to be sold. It is really nice to be generous and to be helpful to others. For that is our purpose in life, that is to help those who really needs help. Thanks

Govt should take steps to eradicate begging. Its disreputable for who begs as well as for us. Govt should educate or train them up and employ or help them self employed. We must think they our liability.

You are right! Better to give them food rather than cash because you can never tell whether they're for real or not.

hi friend, you did the right thing. Now a days people started begging, just for easy money. some children want it for movies and for junk food. I found such children ,who begged some money , they act as if they are in some bad condition , and after that we find them in some movie theater or some junk food center. So better instead of offering some money we should them food, books and clothes ,if they really need them.

Hi friend, you are right, we must give things over money. Some persons may spend our money for unwanted things, if we give things to them, they will use it in a good way. Good to know that you preferred to give things than money, i am also in your sort
