That is so true.. I am a very fearful person and i think because of that i have missed a lot of opportunities in life and school. Although i always say that i should have more confidence, it is still hard..

I totally agree, Great people could do the great things because they were able to overcome their fears..how can we see the future if we have created a wall of doubts and fears in front of it..When a person becomes able to overcome its fears, s/he gets a farsightedness and then nothing seems impossible..:)

I also agree with you great people can have the capacity to overcome their fears. I think if our confidence is constant then we not fear from any situation.

I'm of exactly the same idea.As a successful man,he must dare to accept fear and failure. If the person make the full preparation to face and overcome failure,he would have nothing to fear on the way struggling for success. And also,to some degree, sometimes we should know the chance of failing but we shouldnt give us the chance to lose before we start a thing.

Well, we do understand many times that we need not fear much and face things - whether negative or positive with brave attitude. Still, we at times forget that and start playing safe.

Yes fear is the biggest enemy of success. I used to let my fear get the best of me and this affected my life a great deal. But with time i learned how to face my fears by living through the one quote I found. It goes like this 'Do it, even though you tremble.'This marked me and every time I am scared of doing something, I just remember this quote and I do whatever I have to do. :)

Hi Professor2010, wonderful indeed! That is really true. Fear of failure is one of the main reason we cannot move on and improve ourselves. I do notice that when we fear to fail, then we have a stumbling block in front of us that we cannot breakthrough. Only when a person is willing to learn from his or her failure, can they improve and be better. There is a saying, "A person who ask, will only shows his stupidity for a minute; If a person who does not ask, will remain in his stupidity forever." This means that if we have anything we do not understand, we should ask. And even if people thinks that we are blunt, does not matter because it is only for this one time. After this failure, we will never make the same mistake again. But if we have something we do not understand, and yet afraid of failure and scared people thinking negatively about us, and pretend as if we understand; then forever we will remain foolish and we are just lying to ourselves. So, i do agree with what you said. Take courage and success will await for us. We need to be positive because there will surely a chance and opportunity if we give it a try. All the best to everyone! =)

Hi Professor2010, thank you very much for selecting me as the best response in your discussion. I am very much honored to receive your acknowledgement. *bow* Yes, indeed that is true of what you said. Fear is the greatest hindrance to our success. Hence, once we overcome our fear, we will be successful! ^o^

I think that a lot of people are scared to fail, and I know that I am one of these. I have just graduated from University, and as a result of this I should be trying to look for a job. Instead of looking for jobs that require my degree, I am spending a lot of the time looking for things that you don't need a degree for because of the fact that I don't feel as though I am good enough to apply for any other jobs, and I would be scared that I might get rejected from them when I applied, and I would rather go for things that I would definitely get.

Hi professor, Some people are born like that or perhaps they are brought up in an environment that has instilled some kind of fear in them so much so that they find it hard to muster the courage to do certain things. In other words fear has been 'built-in' into their character and they find it hard to be brave in their undertaking. However, I think courage can be developed and inculcated but it takes time and one probably needs a psychologist to help as it's a mind game. You're right to say that a lot of things can be accomplished when one can overcome one's fear of failure. Have a nice day.

The environment certainly has a role to play, i agree; it is we who put the concept of fear in our kids mind and make them coward to some extent.. Thanks for response Prof.Bhuwan. Best of luck.

They say that there is no harm in trying. And I tend to "gamble" at times and go with what luck has to offer. I admit, my husband and I committed some failures in life and we have our fair share of disappointments. I believe life's like this, we need to face and deal with the issues as it comes never give up. Easier said than done but life is so short. Currently, we have a plan of putting up a small business that could help increase our income somehow. I hope we have the capability to push through and courage to face whatever results that it will bring. I pray that we have the wisdom and courage. Have a nice day

I have a lot of fear I admit but my fear cannot hinder me from the things I want to pursue. I fear defeat, loss along the way but I guess when fear becomes the norm, I could not accomplish things I need to accomplish. As a Christian, fear is real to me but in my heart, my God is greater and thus I can move on though I have fears.

I agree. The biggest enemy of success is "fear of failure." They say too, "you must conquer your fear." And in love there is no fear. If you love doing this thing, you will put your best effort and there is no place for fear.

You're right about this. One really needs courage in order to succeed. In any undertaking of ours, we will almost always be faced with obstacles and challenges that we need courage to overcome these things. And usually one fear that we have is the fear to start such an undertaking - we're afraid that we would fail so we don't even start. Courage is what we need to take the first step. And courage would also help keep us taking more steps until we achieve success.

Namaskar Sir Completely in agreement with what you say on this discussion. We humans and all living beings on the planet have always fought and overcome our fears... I guess the first fear that everyone has - is to take the first steps and we do take them to walk all the life. That in itself is the proof that we have the courage to overcome our fears. I remember a recent discussion from dear vandana on fears and I agree that fears are mostly inculcated into us for various reasons. If they arent, we never would fear and would always be courageous

I think most of us have this feelings especially if we perceived threats or failure from a finish task. Most of the time feeling fear stops us to keep on going. We must not be afraid to fail because failures also gives us the strength to move on. We learned from them not to dwell or do the same mistake again. Having the feeling of fear is just normal but sometimes we have to fight this emotion to be successful in all our undertakings in life.

I think that to be able to reach a certain goal, one should take the risk. We will never know what the outcome of something we thought of doing without really trying. Isn't it life is a gamble?

There is a saying over here (my country): human being is most feared about fear itself. Which means the idea of being afraid is worser as what we are afraid of or might be afraid of. Only if you try you will find out what you are capable of and you might surprise yourself. Many problems solve themselves (you don't need to work or pray for it at all since many problems just exist in our head). It's not courage we need but being active! Also it's proved that those who know how they can bluf (mostly men) are way more succesful (even if they don't have the capabilities) as those who say they don't really know if they can be able to do it but perhaps they can give it a try (mostly women who are less succesful and in the western world nobody would hire a person like that since it's close to less self esteem). A lovely, happy day yourself (happiness is a choice!)

Many of people fear to fail; but till you attempt you never know what the outcome could have been. I used to fear, but now I know failure makes us better especially when we try again. Everybody; never fear to fail, you could succeed on your third attempt or who knows, on the first attempt.

Welcome to mylot There are very few who are successful in the very first attempt, we must keep trying without fear
