Have you heard of "pink slime?" http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/headlines/2012/03/is-pink-slime-in-the-beef-at-your-grocery-store/ Do you think that this filler can be considered healthy? I don't think it should be considered healthy because they rinse this filler in amonia. How can they say that amonia is healthy for you? What are your thoughts, mylotters!

I think its gross...our grocery store now marks it? You have a choice to eat it if you want or not.....I wonder who comes up with this stuff. LIke I am supposed to have decaffinated cofffee......check and see what they use to do that!!! Very unhealthful!

People need to do research and find different options and still eat healthy. No wonder people in the U.S. are obese? Thanks for joining in the discussion.

You've taken different options for a healthier lifestyle. I've never had goat meat before, what is that similar to? We love to eat venison!
But we mainly eat beef and pork from meat markets. Thanks for joining in on this discussion!

I try not to think too much about fillers. I am guilty of buying foods for my kids that are loaded with fillers and I know they are unhealthy. I have always been taught the best thing to do when shopping is stick to the outer walls of the grocery store. The FRESH things are found here. The produce department, the fresh meats and then the dairy department. I need to get back into that habit and stay away from the convenience foods that my kids love so much.
I can't imagine anything rinsed in ammonia would be considered healthy. I am surprised it is a practice that food manufacturing companies get away with to be honest.

I've also read that those fillers that they put in "human" food are what they put in animal food. No one really knows what all they put filler in to, but at least I know buy shopping at a meat market, I can watch them. Thanks for joining in this discussion!

Totally agree with you! How can the media and their resources say that this could be safe? Thanks for joining in this discussion!

It was on a tv news program several months ago. I asked the butcher in the grocery where I shop most often if they used it and he assured me that they did not. Their work space is glassed in so customers can watch them grind the meats and package it.
I don't buy meat from WalMart or any of the other big chains. Can't trust them to not be using stuff in their meat products that I wouldn't want in it. I'd prefer an exclusive meat market but we don't have such in this small town.

Yes, luckily we have a meat market in our town and as you said you can watch them grinding it up. Thanks for joining in on this discussion!

Pink slime is an old story. Most people seem to have since sort of forgotten about it, though, and gone back to eating their soylent green.
I know what is in my beef--nothing. I haven't eaten beef in more than a decade. I don't miss it, either. Between the humane issues, health issues and environmental concerns, I have multiple reasons for not eating it.

True it is an old story but there is contraversary on it. We go to meat markets where we know they don't use fillers in the meat. Thanks for joining this discussion!

I agree with, there's no way this food can be healthy for us. I also think that all the preservatives and additives are what is causing more people to be obese. Food that is supplied to the stores have chemicals on them or have had chemicals on them and those chemicals have to have some negative effects on our body.
