Do I Know How to Light Up a Room or What?

This is an article I found telling us all how to use a gallon of water and a handheld small flashlight in case of a power shortage. I don't know if it actually works but perhaps someone could try it one time on here and see. Do you have a flashlight like that? I don't. I would have to buy one to fit on the gallon jug that way first off. Then maybe I could test it out. It might come in handy for those without power from hurricane Sandy right now. Do you think this would work?? http://updates.lifehacker.com/post/34656954795/light-up-an-entire-room-with-a-flashlight-and-a-gallon

I guess that is plausible. Here in the Philippines, there were news about this man who "invented" a new source of light that does not need electricity. All the needed materials can be found in our homes. The materials are: empty bottle (at least one litter), water, bleach. The bottle would be filled with water and a little bit of bleach and then it would be placed in the roof (a hole in your roof is needed), and voila, you already have an alternative source of light. Check this video if you need more information (not a referral link): www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbHnlOVoHt4.

That is cool about the bleach, bottle and water as well. I have to look into it and perhaps see how it does. I doubt anyone would agree with me putting a hole in the roof though, that sounds risky. I will check the video out thanks.

It is not a big hole though. Just enough to fot the bottle to fit. :)

That's cool! I like to try things like that, but I don't have that kind of flashlight either. I do have a small one with LED bulbs and I might try taping it in the right position later on.

If I ever find one in that shape and form I will definetly give it a try. Wether it works or not is my goal in life to find out now, ha!!

THis is a greaat idea. I wish some of the Sandy victims knew of it. I bet it would help them alot. Being in the dark would get so old after awhile. Thank you for sharing this great idea. I will keep it in mind for my next dark out.

Me too but I just now found out about it. There are many things I know of that I remember too late too. I should pin this on a bulletin board somewhere for others to see it as well.

Thanks for this information, I will surely try this one. Thu we do not experience power cut-off a lot, but this summer I am sure we will be experiencing this once or twice a week for 4-6 hours- usually at night time. I will also share this with other friends. Thanks again

You're very welcome and I do hope it helps you all out in need of some light one day or another.

I think it could help. Coz if light is placed in the middle of the container, the rays of ight will spread out and would make the place a bit brighter.

I hope it would anyways. The only problem I see is finding that type of flashlight. I doubt the standard kind could work the same way. I never even knew this was an option at all til reading the article.

That is sort of neat, and could work as well. We didn't have power for about 5 hours last night, but it was while I was sleeping. My brother in the next town over hasn't had it in over 10 hours it just came back on.

Did you have a storm of some kind? Wow we didn't have that much of an outage thankfully. The only hassle was getting the internet, phone and tv back on after our 1 minute outage here. The brother was moaning and complaining, but he got it all back on after three tries and not breaking any of it.

It was very windy, and loads of rain then snow. It was just for about a day we had it real bad with trees blown over on cars, and so on. Our internet was on until I went to bed, I heard my brother swearing away upstairs then stomped up the stairs to bed. My brother's wife was constantly texting me asking if our power was back on.
