hi dear mylotters, which is more important to you, water or electricity? well back to many years ago most people will say water is more important because technology is not so important and maybe they are still using candles. and water is important because living things cannot live without water. but right now year 2012 with most of the things require electricity, i wonder which is more important to you! for me i will still say water is more important compare to electricity. I can have no electricity for two days but i cannot without water for two days. Even for a day, water still my choice compare to electricity. But when i ask this question to my classmate who are 4 years younger than me, their reply are electricity are more important to them. and one classmate who is few years elder to me his answer is water. from this point of view i can see younger generation feels more important to have electricity compare to water. Maybe they are born in digital era so without electricity they cannot play video games, online, facebook, etc. thats why they will choose electricity. well this is my view but how about you all? are you thinking the same like me or you have your reason for choosing any of this two.

I agree with you, water IS more important in terms of survival. We definitely can't live without it! But I think it depends on the context too. I am moving today and if I have to choose which service to get connected first, I'd go with electricity, but only because I can easily buy water in a supermarket...

haha it is true. but what happen when you don't have water supply around your area? and no supermarket near by?

Then, you are in some serious trouble... Electricity is a commodity while water is something we need. This is really something to think about... we should be thankful for having water when sadly some people in the world don't :(

Qater is more important of course. It is one of the basic necessities in life. The younger generation only think of the "wants" not the "needs" that's why they choose electricity.

good answer of needs and wants. i think giving the question of what is wants and what is needs, the students will put ipad into category of needs. the youngster now days will never think of needs because their parent provide everything and they think it is normal and it should be like this to own the wants. but in fact they never think about the different of needs and wants and the parents should teach the kids too.

I think the "needs" the younger generation refer to are those that will keep them "happy and content". They don't think of survival since, as you said, everything is provided for by the parents.

Hi, xiejiaotu: The answer is very simple, water is the most important thing in life, apart from the other thing that you enter in comparison, say that without water there is no life through which enjoy the other things that have no meaning without life.

I agree with you Xiejiaotu because even when i was a kid i would have said water is much more important than electricity. We can live longer without electricity than we can water they did for centuries. also i grew up in the 70's and 80's where they didn't have Facebook Mylot or the internet as it is today. They did have video games but not like the ones you see today on xbox play station etc. The younger generation of today will say electricity is more important because they never grew up without it or without all the computers cable xboxes and play stations or technology they have today. Some younger people think they cant live without that and that water is just something to drink and bathe with. but we can live far longer in the dark than we can without water and people have lived for centuries without electricity. Plants and animals also need water to grow. They don't need electricity at all. without water plants don't grow so animals don't eat and we can starve so to me water is more important even tho in this day and age electricity is very important for the things we have and do.

redredrose i like your post the most out of here. from this topic it still can lead to many branches of thinking and your thinking is the most near to what i wish to post here. i feel like you had tell everything i didn't tell on behalf of me and share it here. i am really grateful and thanks a lot to you for reply with this much of sentence. maybe i am lazy enough of typing the words so if possible i would like to copy your paragraph to my first post and make my point stronger. but it is IF so still thanks a lot from you.

That's an interesting question, but I am not sure what the answer is. I would probably say electricity, in the sense that I could not live in my home without electricity, as it would be too cold and too dark, whereas I could just about survive for a short period without working, if there was somewhere else I could have a shower, and I could buy bottled water to drink, if I had to. Its interesting how our lifestyles develop in such a way that our needs seem to change, though of course they don't, we just take some things more for granted because we have never struggled to have them.

thanks a lot. you are the first one say electricity in my post. i cannot say you are wrong because different people have different reasons of choosing it.yes you are right on too cold or too dark point but i think others may have something to say about this. how about having a fight and argue of water or electricity? just a suggest if there is anyone want to leave a message here. i wonder how far this topic can go!

it would be better to live without electricity than going out every day for a bucket of water.

yea, just thinking of old time do not have water pipe and need to go out to get a bucket of water really make me feel like disaster. with this the water are only enough for normal use and to take a bath, i wonder how many bucket need.

Water, you can light a candle and produce light. Water, you can do all you need to do during the day. Water, electricity costs too much and your rates keep going up, plus you can use water to power things around your house. I would say water because we need it to live and survive.

I agree with you, and say that water is more important to me then electricity. There is plenty of things that I can find to do without electricity. Like occupy myself by reading a book and writing letters and writing things. Plus you can play board games with your family members. I think, without water there is no way to survive. People use water to cook and to drink to bathe with and to clean. So, yes, I think that I would definitely be happy with water then I would with electricity. And plus you can always light a candle when it gets dark outside.

from your point of view it is also a very saving idea too. yea reading and writing now days is less popular because there are a lot e-new or any other electronic things replace it already. though this i can understand why a lot youngster more to say electricity more important. compare books to a tablet, i am more prefer to have a book. i found it books have more value compare to electronic device. though books is heavy and waste place, but i still cannot hate them and i feel books are treasure, really meaningful to me.

The younger generation has been born into a highly electrisised world, where they see the light, computers, fridge etc. as stables and guaranteed things, and they think they cannot live without these. Sorry to say that, but I don't know wehy this generation is so stupid to value a computer and Facebook and other friggin' luxury things more than water. Water is more important, as on the long run, you cannot live without drinking, and it's also important for cleaning ourselves...

I think for me the most important is water since water is the basic necessity of our body and other living things. without water things that lives die and water is the main foundation of life. electricity is just a second important since this is just an invention of human mind.

Water has to be the answer. You can't live without water. You can enjoy the benefits of electricity only if you are living. The young generation gets it all from their parents. So they don not understand the fact. However, if I were asked even 5 years ago when I was a youngster, I would have still replied water. Because I have seen that we can enjoy on those moonlit evenings in the breeze of nature. That enjoyment was impossible with electricity. Actually I have been to many places and lived under various circumstances. So its easier to figure out the importance of life and things that help you live. Youngsters who stay at home, college, clubs etc. do not enjoy nature. So probably they fail to understand that water is more necessary.
