Are those on top also hot? Or they're hot that's why they're on top?

For some who thought the other way, I like the way you're thinking. But I am referring to the discussion tabs. We have "today's top" and "hot." I was thinking what's the difference. I saw my discussion this morning under the today's top but my discussion has a few responses so I am wondering how can one discussion be on today's top? Then this afternoon, I saw it one time under the hot tab. Still thinking the same. Before, I thought that all discussions with so many responses go under the hot tab. But now, I am confused as I see some with few comments. Would someone enlighten me, please? Thank you.

Look beli- it depends upon the heat it generates, look at this at this way heat produced admin felt hot your discussion goes to hot section in some cases he may feel cool your discussion would go to top. The result is same = you get nothing If your discussion gets many responses, that's only guarantee of your being popular, in this case I see you are popular only a few select ones (Me being one of them)

Don't get confused bely, the fact is- You get nothing in the end despite being on top or hot, you get nothing in the end and you have to start allover again. no one stays there for long enough.

I know I get nothing for being there for a few minutes. But it's so pleasing in the eyes to see on today's top for some time. Don't you love it?

So you are hot and get on top at the weekend eh? I will refrain from asking you what happens during thw week days but when you are stuck for another topic then maybe you could share I (and I think no.one else except admin) have no idea what makes a discussion get to the 'top' list but I do know why they 'reach the 'hot' (because over the years I have watched what happens there) The 'hot' topics are those discussions which have the most activity (responses + comments) in the first 24 hours after they are posted. Those are all really active new topics and will disappear, regardless of how busy they still are, when the 24 hours is up. The one's at the top are the busiest. If you (or anyone else) want to see their discussion move up that list then, after posting it, you should be available to comment on the responses that arrive, with comments that further the topic and get others to add something too.

@mysD: I don't know what you mean by So you are hot and get on top at the weekend eh? Anyways, mine was there on top this morning and in the afternoon, it went to hot. Still sounds silly. I am still confused with the active against the busy. @sunny: so, you call that a guideline?

Please Consider box #1 for guidelines. That seems to be the most logical idea about any discussion getting hot or on top. Some times I feel that any discussion getting hot or on top has relations with starter's age also or mood of the admin. Wot say mam?

Hi adnileb What else do I add... I think some scripts play wrong sometimes here when I see Top Discussions with just a response for more than 10 hours on board or even at times some with 8+ in the upcoming segment. Over time, I have come to ignore those demarcations and find discussions to respond by virtually visiting all segments I can

I'm thinking about the clothes after reading your first line in here... Are you thinking the same way? Oh well, mylot is my first thought upon reading your title. I also wonder what's the difference at times. After reading your contents here, I didn't know few comment topics can also be among those hot ones. Well, my topics are seldom being one of those today's top section. But I really feel happy when I see my topics on mylot digest received from emails everyday. Cause there are only few times I get to be one of those! :O Anyways, at first, I am thinking that today's top would be those topics which have been able to receive lots of responses that day. And the hot topics are those which have been attracting members to participate in...for that day as well. So, if your topic can have lots of responses, it also can be one of those hot topics for that day as well. As if like, it sounds the same, but really it's not... Actually, I am also confused on what I am saying here...^_^_^_^ ^_^

Hmmm... I'm not really sure if what I'm thinking now is what you are trying to say... Anyways, I didn't check on which interest you have placed it under. I just thought of it as mylot. After reading other responses here, I also feel confused...

I am thinking the other way. Maybe I put this under the right interest that's why you thought mylot in the first place. I wanted to put this on some interest but it will be a bad decision. Anyways, Yes, your answer is quite confusing. They really look the same but they're not.

i think hot and top are the same.. the only difference is that "top", im not sure with the appropriate term, it has an added word "today's".. so i think hot is referring to all the discussions including today.. ;-)

hi adnileb I think in regards to h ot its how soon after you post your discussion you start getting responses as much or more than how many as I h a ve been on hot several times lately and had maybe thirty forty responses. you sta y there for awhile then o hers move you off.I have no real criteria as to how the admins picks us or bypasses us.it pays nothing anyway but gives you a feeling of a pat on the back instead. so I really do not know just what makes t hem pick mine or someone elses . of course people being people you do get more responses from being on either top or hot as people love celebs even if they are only a celeb for two days h ere lol lol lol

Haha! And I am loving it ms. Hatley. Even just for a day, it really feels good. Maybe if more responses are incoming for an hour? Then it will be under the hot tab. Really the admins have an extraordinary way of weighing down everything here.

The veterans aren't quite sure. But they made some wild guesses. How I wish the admin would comment on this but he didn't show up to clarify. So I guess the wild guesses are correct.

I got really confused that's why I've decided to make it as a discussion to further clear my thinking about this. BUT, noone gave a clear definition.

Even I don't know how the discussions come under the category Hot or Top I used to think it when i was new here but not now I just know one thing the discussions under both these categories are always worth to respond and I do check these discussions first than other discussions.
