This is just a superficial covering of the subject, but I'm not going to bother delving into the details. Most of you know America had an election on Tuesday, and most states had more on the ballot than just President. I also saw how Puerto Rico had had an election (they are only a U.S. territory, and not able to vote for President), and the majority (doesn't mean it wasn't close, but still it said the majority) of Puerto Ricans voted to ask Congress to consider making them the 51st state. I remember a while back a mylotter from there was worried that would happen. I assured her it wouldn't because no one in the United States wants that. And they still don't. I've heard some ridiculous talk about how all Americans are rich, which is so untrue it's laughable. Our government has enough problems with 50 states, let alone 51. Does anyone think that is a good idea? I can't think of any good reasons.
By the way, it started me thinking about when Taiwan was given back to China after Great Britain had had control of it for so long. Does anyone else remember that ceremony? And it was Taiwan, right? I'm kind of too tired to go look it up.
Oh, and Lamb, two more states voted to legalize medical mary jane. I thought of you when I saw that.
One more thing: was I the only one who did not watch one lick of coverage last night because you already knew who won and didn't bother to watch it become official? I woke up at 2am, got on the computer, saw who won, and went back to sleep.

I thought Colorado and Washington legalized the recreational use of MJ?
I think we have enough problems without adding a 51st state. I don't ever see the US getting things in enough order that we could even justify taking on Puerto Rico as a state.

I watched the results online with my daughter, as there was an important measure in California that means she will be getting money back from the college she is attending. Measure 30 passed in a close vote and now college students will not lose classes, as the funding has been restored and teachers will keep their jobs. More students will get into college in the future.
We will have to pay more sales tax for several years; however, my daughter will graduate from college in a year and a half and then do her student teaching.

I voted and went about my day, I didn't watch the results until the end of the day. My guy didn't win but life goes on, I cannot wallow in the loss but think of ways I can make things better for my family. I don't depend on any person or government to take care of me, its called personal responsibility and I have it, unlike the people who are temporarily in power.

Hi Ambie,
I don't think Puerto Rico should become a state. The US has enough problems to solve. I enjoyed watching CNN's coverage and got a kick out of seeing Wolf Blitzer get so excited about the results. I think that we are very blessed to live in a democracy where each person has the freedom to vote. May we never take that for granted.

I had not heard about Puerto Rico becoming a state. I suppose if the government thought they would make money off taxes they would pursue that one! I did not watch the election either. The media had it settled before it started so everyone knew the winner beforehand. It would have been a waste of time to watch the results!

Unfortunately I watched the whole miserable affair until Ohio was reckoned, then I went to bed and hubby and I tossed and turned all night. At first I thought adding the Philippines as a state sounded pretty cool, but I think you are right in your observation and conclusion.. And the government doesn't need yet more to rule over..

I admit to staying up and watching the election from start to finish. It was exciting to me. I don't think the US needs any more States though. Who is your President affects the whole world not just the USA so we are interested in the results. I do hope that you are feeling better now my friend.
