Here in AZ, USA, is Veterans day Sunday
I been hearing on the news, many places have free food/meals for vets
cant remember all the places but start breakfast at dunkin donuts, free donuts coffee, etc. then go to Applebees or one of the other places on the list! i told son to do a search for where places are. He said, gee, hope all the homeless vets hears about it. id like to give mine to them..
isnt he wonderful? anyway, letting everyone know and wonder if thats all over our country. does your state/ town have that?

I am happy to see that they are starting to do things for the vets. All the years they have served this country through all the wars, it is nice to see them being respected. They deserve a lot more then a few free meals. But that is a start.

Well, the only living veteran that we have in our family now is my father-in-law and he wouldn't be one of those people that was going to be going out to eat for the holiday because of the fact that he is a generally anti-social individual (he was in the Vietnam War and that scarred him for life).
However, I do know that there is at least one place that is providing free food for Veterans on Monday (the National Holiday) and that is Golden Corral. This is something that they do every single year here. I've seen the commercials on the television.

They are doing it across the nation. Some of the places I heard about are Golden Corral, Outback Steakhouse, Red Roof Inn and I am sure there are more. They do have to show their active or retired ID from the military to get the freebies. All of them hold that ID dear to them so even those that are homeless will be able to prove they served and in which division.
This is nice but it really isn't enough after all they have done and are doing for the rest of us Americans.
Glad they have a holiday to remember all who they served with and those that have fallen. Mu husband spent 21 years in the Navy and my Dad served 49 years in the Army.
All veterans deserve to be respected and honored for their service to our country!

they certainly do. and other businesses should give at least a small freebie, dont you think?

It should be mandatory that they have the day off too...my husband is upset and has to work. This isn't right either.
Yes, there should be more done for veterans!

We participated last year--see if those vets take family members you have to buy the family member food. . . it is a wonderful gesture, but it also boosts sales somewhat. We went to Applebees and the Boy Scouts were there doing something, giving out something, and the Girl Scouts were opening the door and seating people and helping out as well. It was nice, I do not want to sound like a party pooper. I know the American Legion and Applebees in my town are doing it. Logan's Roadhouse is as well, but that is in another town.

Applebee's has always been really good about that. I know Buffalo Wild Wings has something that day, and I saw a commerical for Hooters (never been there myself) that offered 10 free bonus wings to any veterans formerly or currently serving in the military.

Can't enough be done for the vets. I saw where applebee's was giving them free food. There is not one here but there's one in the next town west of here. Haven't heard anything about anyone here doing that. Hope they are tho. Happy weekend, bon.

Hi bunnybon
Unfortunately we dont have anything of this kind of Veterans Day here. But yes, there are places (mostly the temples(religious institutions), some charities and some people too) give food for free on special days to all who can come.
It is something really great that US has a special day for the Veterans and I do hope that someday many countries would copy this - as they have many other days copied.

You got a good son my friend. He can feel for those old veterans.
It's good that there is this Veterans Day in your country. We really have to pay homage for the soldiers who once served our country and sacrificed being there in the battlefield. It's just one way of appreciating them, specially now that they are already in their twilight years.
I can just imagine those Veterans eating and chatting with their fellow veterans. It's a happy occasion for them.

Yes, across America they have programs such as these. Every year I joke about getting a map and scheduling an effective rout so I can hit all the restaurants lol. Its really nice they do that for the military. Especially the younger guys who cannot afford to go out to eat as much. As for the homeless guys we have a lot around where I live. I have yet to see them out eating lunch during these events. I do know though that they normally only give you such perks if you're currently in the military or have served your 20 years. So more then likely many of these homeless vets probably do not qualify for these programs even though I think they should.

I was in the armed forces in between wars and I have the utmost respect for those who were called during wartimes. We owe our entire lifestyle to those warriors who went before and kept this country free. I don't think that we do enough for the vets. I'm glad that part of my tax dollar is allocated to programs that benefit them.
