How often do you get a haircut?

When I was still in my home country, I have my hair cut almost every two months. I feel uneasy when my hair goes past shoulder length level. It's just not my thing to sport long hair. But now, since I moved to the US, I haven't hand a hair cut yet, and it's been 7 months already since I came here. My hair has grown past my shoulder, way longer than I ever allowed it to grow, and I'm beginning to love it. I'm planning to have it trimmed by January, but for now, I'll enjoy my hair the way it is . How about you?

I'm a guy, and i pretty much have my hair done a month or so, followed by hair color or a nice hot oil at the hair salon :D I pretty much don't like my hair grown long because it makes me look skinny. Have a wonderful day! :D

Hi Heaytheblogger, Getting a haircut once a month for boys is normal. A nice hot oil is great to have, too. But hair color? You're only 22, surely it's not to cover any grey strands, right? So, you wear colored hair, do you have shades of different color, of is it one color other than black? You intrigue me.

Well, sounds good enough for me. I've seen guys color their hair rainbow, I know it's a way of self-expression, but I find it weird. Thanks for posting.

Hey, thanks for your reply. Yeah i do have my hair colored but not every time i have a hair cut but hot oil is really intended for me because i do have a disturbing messy hair so with hot oil, it helps my hair be in place... I do have my hair color not because i have gray hair but i do have a disturbing dull hair color so, with hair dye it will help me have a textured hair color. :D

I've been getting my hair cut as little as possible. I'd really like to have long hair but my hair is fine and it breaks easily. Typically I'll let it grow as long as possible til the ends start to look bad. Then I'll just get it trimmed. Unfortunately I cannot seem to get it quite as long as I've always wanted but I still try lol. If only I didn't have to wear my hair up for work. I think besides having fine hair putting it up in a pony tail all the time is hard on it.

Hi Sindelle, Hmmm, your work requires you to wear your hair up? You mind telling why? Just intrigued, you may not answer if you don't feel like it... Going back, this is why I don't like long hair, because I have to tie it in pony tail which makes hair more difficult to manage. But now I to just let it down and since the weather is colder here, it doesn't bother me at all.

Hi Sindelle, Now I get it, I understand military people have to wear their hair short, or at least properly and neatly trimmed or tied. Thanks for clarifying. Have a good day.

I'm in the military. I wish I could wear it down but I'd have to chop it very short in order to do that.

I have not had a haircut in yrs. I actually do not believe in cutting hair due to my religious beliefs, and I enjoy my long hair. As for my husband I think he gets a hair cut about every 3 months.

Hi Krause, I must say two years is quite a long time to grow your hair, yours must be very long now. I understand some religious beliefs have certain requirements as to how their members wear their hair, and how they dress, etc. But since hair is something that grows continuously, at some point you have to cut it. Have a good day.

You are in US now? It seems a long time I did not keep in touch with you. It is good to know that you begin to like your long hair very much. I do trim my hair every now and then when I am working. If I am not working, stay at home mum, then I will keep my hair long. Save money. But during the hot summer season, I opt for short hair, easier to manage.

Hi Iriene, So excited when I saw your response here. It's been a while, what's up? ...Yup, I (and the kids) finally joined my hubby. I'm still in the process of adjusting to the new country, different culture, and yes, different weather. I really like the cold weather here, that's why it's easier to grow my hair longer than what I've been used to. And the best part is, I get to save money for not going to the hair dresser once every two months. But I still miss the warm weather and the tropical wind back home. Thanks for posting, I hope to see more of you here (just like before).

Since I am a man, I rarely keep long hair. I always maintain my hair at certain length. I have a hair cut every two months or so. There is a barber at a nearby mall that have promotion. For every 4 haircut, the next haircut will be free of charge. I normally go and cut hair with my son.

Hi James, Yeah, men should keep short hair, that's the best look for your species. Good that your barber has that kind of promo, that's indeed a good deal and it will surely make customers like you keep coming back.. I hope you don't stop going the barber shop regularly once the promo ends.

As long as your ends are okay, I don't think you need to get a haircut! I am trying to grow my hair out and a. I don't trust most beauticians (they cut off too much hair!) b. I don't like spending money for something I can do for free! A friend of mine has LOOOOONG hair (past her waist!) and she gave me this tip from her grandmother in Kuwait. To grow healthy, long hair, you only need to trim a centimeter a month. This protects against split ends and other damage, but allows your hair to keep growing without too much interruption. I have been doing this for 6 months now, and my hair is looking/feeling good! :)

Hi Habib, Wow, you do your own hair? I should try to learn that too . One of the reasons I haven't had a hair cut here is that I find it too expensive. As I've mentioned, I've been here for less than a year and I still have a habit of converting US$ into Philippine Peso hehehe. My husband tells me I should stop doing it or else I'll grow my hair up to toe and still not get a hair cut. But it turned out to be an advantage, coz this is the first time in our 15 years of being married to each other that he's seen my hair this long .

Oh I do my hair myself as well. I have long hair below the waist as well and I have to trim it myself because in the salon they had really made it short when all i wanted was a trim. i do not trust the salon with my hair at all. Doryv, i also have stopped chopping my hair and I guess my mother will be happy to see my hair because she always wanted me to have long hair as she had her hair very very long. It is been 3 years that I have not seen my mother but I am going to see her soon and I know that my hair will be a surprise for her.

Hi Riya, Kudos to you as well, I really admire those who can do things like this on their own. It takes a lot of skills (and talent maybe?) to be able to do your own hair. I on the other hand, would not dare cut my own hair for fear of wearing bad hair day for quite some time. I'm pretty sure I'll still end up finding a hair dresser to fix it. Three years since you've seen your mom? I hope you two have a happy reunion and you'll definitely make her happier by sporting the length of hair she's always wanted you to have.

When I was young, I had my haircut every three month by my mom. But now, to be well dressed in suitable characters, I have to find a beauty-maker to make my hair in a fashion form. I have been told to deal with my hair every month by the beauty-maker, but if I really do that, it will take me a great fortune to do that. Usually visit the beauty-maker does not means only have the hair cut, but also have to do some other process to keep the hair in a good shape. It is necessary to use some chemical to deal with the process, but the chemical is not good for health.

Hi Dandan, Like you, until I was a teenager it was my mom who cut my hair. But I guess it was easy for me coz I'm a girl, so my mom just cut it straight, and my hairstyle hasn't changed much through time. Yes, going to the hair salon will cost you a fortune if you do it often. As to the chemicals, I guess you only have it if you have treatments like hair color, or rebond, and these will definitely cost you a fortune.

Wow, after looking through all of these, I feel quite a bit different... I'm a guy, but I really don't like getting my hair cut, so I usually get it cut once or twice a year, and when I get it cut, I get it really short (except the front, I like some shag up there) then it grows and grows to the point where it gets in front of my eyes and I can't see as easily, then I get it cut again. I think it's really the best way to get it cut, because it feels like such a weight has been lifted off me when I get it cut... but at the same time, I never really like it when it's just been cut... it looks so weird... I like a medium kind of length to my hair. The only bad part of it, is the back grows out a bit more, so it looks like a bit of a mullet near the end... but I'm pretty easy going... sometimes I just cut down the back myself a couple of weeks before getting my hair cut. The big thing with me, is I hate talking to the person cutting my hair. It feels like an intimidation practice... they have scissors, they're asking me questions, I better give them the right answers. Now I have a barber up my street, who's a 65ish year old Italian, gives great haircuts, and doesn't need to chat through it. I pay him extra for doing it like that.

Hi Christoph, I find your response very amusing . Funny you mentioned about the barber talking to you while cutting your hair - I just realized it's a universal thing, barbers chattering about anything and everything without even checking if you're interested in it. Maybe it's their way of entertaining their customer, or themselves. Some actually like it, some don't, it seems you belong to the latter . Really appreciate your post, thanks for dropping by.

I do have my hair cut mostly most every two months also. This is because, it is required by the company I am working. Boys are not allowed to grow hair longer. It must be either a trim cut, or barber cut. As long as you neat clean as what boys should do.

Hi Pals, I know some companies have certain requirements on how their employees look, and that includes the haircut. Male employees are not allowed to grow long hair, and females with long hair should tie it or keep it neatly combed. Apparently, you belong to this kind of company.

Hi Uchelink, Yup, women will do everything to have beautiful hair, and it looks better when it is long. You cut your hair every two weeks? Isn't it a bit too often than necessary? It's also expensive, don't you think? But anyways, if you're happy cutting your hair that often, then so be it.

Generally, I get my hair cut about every 6 - 8 weeks. It is really thick, so generally about then it very much needs cutting. I was scheduled to get it cut last weekend, but it did not need it all, so I rescheduled the appointment for three weeks. It was her next opening. I am hoping that it will not get to long by then. Right now, it is like perfect. My bangs are not even in my face. It does seem like with my hair permed that it does not need to be cut as often. With the prices of everything in the economy, I am doing my best to squeeze everything to last drop. I guess with my hair it would be letting grow in between hair cuts until it finally at that point where my bangs on in my eyes.

Hi Aireanna, Thick hair is usually a challenge to maintain, and having regular trim makes it more manageable. You're right, with the prices of everything going up, even things like getting a hair cut could be one indulgence that gets to be cut. Thanks for posting here.

I am a guy, and I don't like my hair too long. I make it a habit to have it trimmed once every month. The longest I have tried to keep my hair was 1.5 months, and I couldn't stand it. It gets hot at the neck. I still wonder why girls don't feel hot being covered by their long tresses?

Hi Tiffkneat, I know most guys prefer short hair, and I agree coz they look neat and cool with it. When I was still in my home country, I always get a hair cut at least once every two months. The weather there is so humid that I can't stand it when my hair start touching the back of my neck coz it's really warm. About your question, either they(or we?) get used to it or just endure it. Girls will trade anything to get the look they want .

People say that the crowning glory of a person is their hair. I agree, I believe that hair is well groomed or nice, even if the person's face is not so pleasing (by the way the beauty is in the eye of the beholder) he/she looks nice and pleasant. Have you noticed yourself that when you got a good hairdresser and it made good thing on your hair like new hair dye, or rebond or spa and people noticed, how nice it is or how soft it is now you feel alight and happy and surely made your day. Yes, at this point i enjoy my hair too, like you I have not been to the hairdresser for cutting after a year and a half. Cheers to hair!

Hi Mavic, Whew! You have not cut your hair for a year and a half! I have yet to top that, mine is uncut for only 7 months and here I am bragging about it . I've heard that too, or was that in a shampoo commercial - that the hair is a person's crowning glory. I feel happy that I was able to endure it for months, and I'm gonna enjoy it until it's time to have it trimmed. Have a good day.

Sometimes, when I want a long hair, I don't usually get a haircut for a year or two. I only get my hair trimmed. This year, I already had three haircuts. Two at home and one at the beauty salon. Why at home? I cut it on my own and I let my husband fixed it. LOL. I don't wanna go to town sometimes so I just cut it the way I like it. I got stressed with my hair that's why I went to the beauty salon and got a haircut from a professional. LOL. My hair is kinda thick but so straight. The haircutter said, it was a bit difficult to tame. LOL. Just sharing. Happy mylotting everyone.

Hi! I always have my hair long. So when I'm deciding to have a haircut, I make it a point that it stays just below my shoulders. Also my hair strands are thick, thus making my hair grow slower than usual. Just to give you a heads up on how slow my hair grows, it takes me about 4 or 5 months before I go ahead and get a haircut. There was one time that it took me 7 months! Lol! But now, though my hair is still long, I tend to always tie it in a pony. Because I want to avoid my baby tagging, pulling and eating my hair. Lol! Cheers! :)

Hi Lizlee, I know , less visit to the hair salon means less expense, and more time for the family. I think that's about how slow my hair grows too, and this is the first time I'm letting it grow longer, like beyond my shoulder. I don't like my hair tied in a pony, but for some weird reason I always do this.
