With all the terrible challenges that face our country, what are the headlines? Men who cannot honor their marriage vows. Just to make this interesting these are men who guard many dangerous military secrets of our country. Were it not for that they would be of little or no interest to the public and our primary interest would be back where it belongs, helping those citizens suffering from natures damage. What are your feelings on this?

Well, I think it's precisely because they "guard many dangerous military secrets" that their personal lives are under the microscope. I tend to agree with you that natural disasters and many other things deserve much more attention, but I can also easily imagine someone in a powerful position sleeping with a spy and making our national secrets not so very secret anymore. Not paying ANY attention to things like the Petraeus affair would lead to complacency and very low standards of expected behavior for public officials...as much as I'd like the news to focus on something less tawdry and something that feels less like an invasion of privacy, it probably wouldn't be a good thing overall.

Last nights news had me shaking my head, as so much coverage on this topic, so the only time left was for the chilly weather here. I believe there is other news that could be covered in California. Its sad to see people ruining their marriages and I feel sorry for the children. Their mother sure wasn't home taking care of them.

Hi savypat, The private lives of these people should be of concern only to their families. As far as I'm concerned it is just juicy gossip for the media. There will always be those who love to hear stories about the failings of others. It reminds me of years ago when the clergy would lecture a young couple if they were pregnant before getting married. Funny how we don't see our own faults and failures. Blessings.

These are distractions and the media is very good at promoting them. I believe there were certain events that were kept under wraps until after the election then revealed to take attention away from the massive layoffs, the increase in food stamp recipients and the market losses. Perhaps I'm too much of a conspiracy theorist but I don't believe in coincidences, especially when it comes to politics. We should concentrate on real day to day issues that impact our lives and those of our fellow citizens. While the affair of the General and all its aspects could impact national security, there are agencies to deal with that. His personal life is none of my business and I feel rather dirty just reading the headlines. I would prefer the nation concentrate on the real problems, not scandals.

marriage is a treaty between two partners and both should honor the treaty for a successful marital life.
