Why bother?

Yesterday an acquaintance on a facebook group offered to share some kefir grains. As they're something I'd like to try out I sent a message back saying I'd love to try someone if she would be willing to share, and that I'd pay all her costs, obviously.
This morning she replied, saying 'Are you sure you can't get them in a local health food shop or in the city? Shipping them would be hard'. If I could get them in a local health food shop I wouldn't be asking, would I? And a trip to the city would take me two days, rather excessive for kefir grains.
If she doesn't want to share, fair enough. But why offer in the first place?! I would have got them from eBay and not bothered her, as I originally planned, had she not offered. Now I feel as if I've asked something that's unreasonable.
I'm stupidly cross and I know I'm probably over reacting but I feel a little hurt.
Why make an offer if you don't want to follow through?

She kind of went back on her word. They say the kefir grains are a symbiotic culture of yeasts and bacteria and are used to make kefir.I have never heard of it before.

I have no idea what kefir grains are?
Seems strange of her to offer to share but then retract her offer, unless she was inundated with requests? If you can get them elsewhere, then stuff her and do it. Tell her she can shove her grains where the sun don't shine! For all I know, that's might be what you would do with them anyways. lol

Oh, yes, I agree with you, why make an offer if you don't follow through. I know a family member that had a whole bunch of yarn (like a half of pickup load). She kept saying she wanted to get rid of it or then she was going to sell it. When another family member and I wanted to take some, she's like "No, somebody else might need that color." Ended up she ended giving all this yarn to some one else. So it was a good thing I didn't tell some one I could get them some yarn, then I would have been the person who made an offer and not follow through.

Yes, indeed. Why offer if there's no follow-through.
