Last night I decided to make some chicken noodle soup. So I grabbed some chicken breasts out of the freezer...put them in a pan with celery, onions and a bit of Rosemary....then I added several cubes of boullion....when I went to check to see if the chicken breasts were cooked through so I could dice the meat it looked funny....so I tasted it.....it tasted funny too. I picked up the boullion jar and noticed I added beef instead of the chicken flavored!!!! I am eating it anyway because I had such a big pot of it. Today it tastes better then yesterday but I don't think I would ever make it again! LOL....have you made a mistake in a recipe lately? What was the worst mistake in cooking you ever made?

Hiya Jill, One of those moments? Well if they are "senior moments" I must have had them all my life like the lentils nearly ended up with the beans yesterday he he he. Good reflexes made me think what I had picked up. Its really all to do with doing one thing at a time if you can I know that is hard to do. I have a Dog forever pestering me so I can have junior moments, baby moments and never senior moments. Once I nearly went to school without my mac and satchel is that a senior or a junior moment?xxx

Hiya Jill, I am taking it easy right now no junior or senior moments today as I have shut the door on any possible arguments, problems be they junior, baby or senior. Just surfing a little doing what I want and not allowing anyone to disturb my particular peace. Hope you enjoyed you Soup. I did Red Beans today no hiccups there.xxx Great to have a sense of humour jill.xxx

Yes, I actually did something very similiar to what you did. I was making a beef dish (pepper steak) and added in chicken boullion by mistake. It didn't taste horrible but the gravy sure didn't come out the way I wanted it to. And I made sure I didn't make that mistake the next time.

My worst mistake involved garlic, as misread the instructions. There is such a thing as to much garlic, as I added twice as much to the dish and even my husband had trouble eating dinner. He no longer says he can eat anything. Your dish I wouldn't have a problem eating it. I love beef flavored anything.

My dad did that before. A lady left a chicken dish for him and my mom and told him he only needed to add chicken brother. He added beef broth. He didn't realize it until he tasted it and he said it was disgusting. He felt kind of sick about wasting food, but he can't salvage it.

I have added too much of something many times, but I am not sure if I have ever added the wrong ingredient before. I am sure I have done it before though. I get distracted by the kids or a phone call when I am cooking a lot. At least you are able to still eat it.

Oops, sorry but that's a funny story. Glad you were eating it instead of me...lol Did you end up eating it all? I can remember when I was first married and had no clue how to cook, I fried spaghetti noodles. I mean what did I know! Someone also told me to toss the noodles on the ceiling to see if they were done and I did that also. My husband came home and I was on a chair getting the noodles down from the ceiling. I finally learned how to cook. Not well, I might add, but did learn. Looking back it was hysterical and I was so dumb.

LOL....I froze some of it so I can continue eating it when I need to refresh my memory about making some cooking mistakes! It was okay but not what I wanted it to be....little beefy chicken never hurt anyone does it?

If that's a senior moment I'm having a plenty 30-something moments. Yes I've done silly stuff like that... usually I omit an ingredient and then remember just as I set it to cook or when it's too late to add the item I'm missing. Oh well, I would of eaten it too, no need to waste food.

hi j ill hill only the time that I was nine and wanted to make the best cake ever. So I was carefully measured out ingredients and the page in the co ok book had turned and I did not realize it until after the cake was in the oven, instead of three teaspoons of baking powder I put in a third of a c up an boy did that cake rise and rise but when I tasted it my mouth puckered and every one went on eating the cake. I knew that they were trying to save my embarrassment as that was just plain sour. That's my worst disaster from then on I was careful to check the page and see I had the right recipe. I will never forget how wonderful the cake looked and hos awful it really tasted.

Maybe it was because you put your heart into making it that they ate it anyway~!

Sounds like an interesting dish..and something that I would do too..lol. I think the worst mistake I ever made was when I was cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the first time. Thank goodness it was just my children and I. I left the pack in the turkey..you know the pack.

Honestly, it has been a long time since I've made a mistake when I was cooking something. However, I'm not going to go to the extent of saying that I am exempt from making mistakes when I am cooking or baking because I'm not. The last big mistake that I made in the kitchen was a couple years ago when I was making some Christmas cookies for my mother and I forgot to put the salt in them. It was chocolate chip cookies and though they were still pretty yummy, I would never forget the salt in them again.

That is quite funny. Maybe it tastes good too. I haven't made a mistake before in cooking I wonder if I made one what could be the taste. :-) Thanks for this.
