do you read others' responses first before typing your own?

I know this question must have been asked before but I just want to ask it anyway because I am wondering if you go over what others are saying before you input your own. To answer my own question, no, I do not waste time reading other people's answers. However, after I have submitted my own response, I sometimes go over what others have said and that's AFTER I have submitted and published my own view. Amazingly, I often find my ideas similar to a few discussions. Well, there's not much views on a particular subject, right? Sometimes there could only be two sides to an issue so you're either going for this or that and you can't avoid saying the same things as others. But I do not read what others say before writing my own response. How about you?

With the exception of twice, I always read the other responses. If some has given a response very similar to mine I either change my response or move on. And the guidelines state under the don'ts: "Respond to a discussion until you've read all of the responses." I think this is the rule most broken. I've seen many discussions about various rules being broken by members but no one ever mentions this one. Primarily, I believe, because almost everyone breaks it. When I read responses in any number of discussions I see the same things over and over. Once I posted a link for something in one of my responses and in the response right under mine the person was asking if there was a link or information on the topic. So, to answer your question, I do read the other responses before adding mine. If there are too many to read and I don't have time I go on to something else. There are enough discussions here to find something else. I'm also interested in what others have to say. Maybe a lot of people aren't, unless it's in a discussion they started.

Oh. Is it a rule to read all responses before you respond? How about if there are over a hundred responses? That would take up a lot of time, don't you think so?

Of course it would. But I didn't make the rules. Why don't you ask GAA why that rule is there? Most people ignore it anyway.

It is on the guidelines that you must read all others' responses on any discussion before responding to it. Reason is quite simple and obvious - many a times what you might want to write is already written on some response and as such there is no need to re-type! But there is another point to this too... which of course is not written or a part of the rules and guidelines - you also come to know what others are thinking on the same subject of discussion which to many (like me) adds more.

No, I never look to see what other peoples responses are to other peoples discussions, as I feel that there is no point if you have your own opinion to what they are discussing. I like to think that they also put their own opinion on a response to my discussions that I have started as well, rather than looked at what others are saying.

Hey Jugs. It is also a waste of time and so limits our earning that way.

I only read the question or response I plan to respond to. Anyway, most of the time, most of the responses do not provide me with an opening for a good response. So, I just go with the less complicated.

Hello Bug. I know. We always go for a way that is easier.

First I check my friend's discussion had been started. I respond if I could answer their question and if it interested me. Then i search for a topic that is interesting to me. Through answering and participating in some discussion a question would come to me to build a new discussions. Sometimes before I log in to mylot I have already a topic to be discussed.

Hi Art. So you basically go for your friends' discussions first. I usually go to "top" or "hot" discussions. Maybe I should start going over my friends' discussions too.

I rarely read other posts unless I need some clarifications on the discussion posted. I do not want my responses be influenced by other members. I write (type) instantly my initial reaction to the topic as soon as I finish reading the whole post.

No, I seldom read other responses before I make my own. There are people who think a certain way and of course their not the only one but input is input no matter if it's already been said.

Like what Deazil had said, it's part of the guidelines that we have to read the other responses first before we post ours. I guess this is after all a discussion, and like when we're talking among our friends, we just don't butt in until we've listened to what our friends are saying. That's why I sometimes avoid a topic which generated a lot of responses since I'm sure I wouldn't be able to read all of those responses.

Hi Beamer! Yes, popular discussions, one with many responses, will indeed make you waste plenty of time if you go by the rule.

According to the rules here, we MUST read the response of others before responsing our own to avoid redundancy. Besides, I see what others says too. Anyway, someone says that it isn't important if our ideas are said by others. What important is how you say it. But hen again, there are rules here that we should follow

Redundancy of ideas is expected here since one cannot change one's opinion or view on a topic just because somebody else is going for that topic. What is to be feared here is echoing what others have already said and this happens after you have heard what others have said. However, if you just give your own opinion outrightly without reading others' responses, then you will avoid being redundant because you will be saying what you really think and feel.

For me it depends on the discussion, sometimes i read first others response but sometimes i just write down immediately my opinion on it.Well for instance on this discussion,i haven't read anyone's response yet.And yes we can't avoid having the same ideas but the way we elaborate it can make the differences.

Most of the time, yes, i read what the other myLotters have to say before i post my response. It's one way of avoiding redundancy, say if they have already said what was suppose to be my answer, I try to think of another response.

No or very rarely. Some responses are posted for the sole purpose of posting to collect the pennies. I should add that some of the responses are intelligent resposes to a serious point

For me, a big NO! I respond first to the discussion before I read the others and make response added to it if I had almost same idea for that comments. Or some other comments in the way around.

I normally do not read responses given by others, when I write my own response. If the discussion is clear to me and I could relate to it, I immediately start responding. However, sometimes, discussion is so draft by the host I fail to understand the intent of the host. In that case, I just go through the responses of other mylotters to 'understand' the core issue raised in the discussion. Like you I also find that whatever I share in my responses matches with the views of other respondents.

It really depends on the subject... if it is a very interesting or controversial subject I do read other posts to see what everyone is thinking on the subject.

Honestly it is not possible to do that, at least not always. I sometimes read others responses but if you have limited time, like now I just want to say what I have to say , since I dont have enough time to go through others posts , but when I have time I do go through many posts whether I respond or not.. all the best and happy mylotting

I know that we are supposed to read the respond of others too before we start to make our own response. As a matter of fact, I do read others' responses before making my own response. But not all of them because it is going to take me quite a long time. As long as we make some quality responses I believe it is good enough. And not to forget to give a positive rate to responses you find interesting.

Hi Cutie. How are you? I think it depends on the topic. If it's about money making or writing, I take time to read the response of other members before commenting. But if the topic is personal like love, relationships or those that falls under the question and answer category, I just type right away. I don't think much of about what others might have said that might be similar to my views as their words most probably are not that near to my choice of words. I read previous responses on my top 2 main interest because I note down those websites that they share as I am interested on working with other money making sites. Have a great day!
