Weird rainbow

This is my third rainbow discussion. Some years back I did one about a rainbow that I saw just after the sunset. And then I did one about a sundog (rainbow around the sun). Both were really cool, and I provided pictures. I couldn't get a picture of this one as I was driving. All I can say it that it was unusual. It looked like a very wide column of cloud or steam in rainbow colors, straight up and down, not really a bow shape at all. It looked to be miles wide. Has anybody ever seen a rainbow like that?

Well, when it happens the fact that it rains through the rays of the sun, then we have the phenomenon of the rainbow. To me it's happened many times to see it. But I remember in a special way what I saw last July during a pilgrimage to Lourdes. Even in that circumstance there was, in fact, the phenomenon of rain-Sun. But the strange thing is that there were two rainbows! One was very pronounced with its colors (which if I'm not mistaken, these colors of the rainbow, should be seven). The other saw barely, but it was still visible to the naked eye. I do not remember that I photographed, although on this occasion that trip I had with me, my mobile phone with camera.

I rarely see rainbows anymore, but I think that is mostly because I don't take the time to look. I know when I was a kid every time it rained I would go outside and look to find a rainbow. Once I remember a neighbor boy insisting we go looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Of course we never did find it, but we had fun that day looking for it. I don't think I have ever seen a rainbow like the one you have described. I have seen a double rainbow and I have seen one that looked like it was upside down before though.

Isn't that "AURORA?" Wow, that's beautiful light display. I guess you can see that in a high latitude. I only saw Aurora in the movies. Or I just couldn't remember if I saw one in person. LOL. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting. I hope you can see it again so that you take its photo and share it with us. Happy mylotting.

No, we aren't far enough north to see an aurora. I would love to though.

I guess you just simply love rainbows if this is your third time talking about it. I like rainbows myself too, I sometimes saw two rainbows together seems like a twin rainbow. I really wish actually that I can take pictures of it just some of my friend does co's I know it would be fun having a picture of a rainbow specially the one we see ourselves. Rainbows reminds me of God's promise to mankind, a promise that says: He will never flood the earth with water again just like what He did during Noah's time when he let the spring of the depths open up and let the water flow until the earth was all covered. Thank you for sharing your rainbow experience and happy mylotting.

I have seen some lovely rainbows in the past years. Usually after a rain and the vibrant colors in a half circle. I don't think I have seen the ones you describe. They are definitely a new start after the rain. Such a nice phenomena.

Not completely vertical but close. But I do have a rainbow story. Many years ago I was driving from the farm to work and I was crying as my husband was so sick and I was frightened and scared of the ineveitable etc. I began to pray and asked God (very stupidly) to give me a sign that He had heard my prayers. I don't normally try to bargain with God but I was in a real emotional state. I drove around a corner in the road. Then I got what I perceived as an answer. I saw a brilliant rainbow in miniature around a limb of the tree in front of me. It was so small and complete and the colours were brilliant. I just stopped the pickn up and looked at it in awe. Coincidence? I don't know but the to me no - it was an answer that somehow life goes on and that I would cope. Finis

Wow, I can imagine such a beauty right in front of your eyes. You are so blessed to see all kinds of rainbow phenomenon. I only seen a couple of times after rain those beautiful rainbow. There is one occasion in Tivolli World's fountain in Spain, when you look at the fountain you can literally see the rainbow exist there ...Beautiful There is one waterfall in Malaysia which they named it Rainbow Waterfall. You can see the rainbow on the waterfall. According to the person who posted it in the Facebook, we can see the rainbow every time during the day except rainy days. Wow I have not been there, it seems need to have along drive and a long jungle trekking to reach the waterfall.

I am very excited every time when I spotted a rainbow in the sky. I will shout to my wife and my son to come out and have a look. We will admire it in awe, just wonder if there is a pot of gold at the end of it. However, the rainbow is at its best when we look at it with our naked eyes. Photos is great but the sight of its original state is speechless! You are a lucky girl, managed to spot different variety of the rainbow's beauty!

I think it was about 2 years ago, I was driving on the freeway on an on/off rainy, soggy day heading out to Burbank to meet a friend. The kids were in the back seat and I was thinking why the h did I agree to meet her when my drive was nuts like this (traffic was horrible). But the cool thing was there was this gigantic rainbow on what seemed like either sides of the freeway, but the "ends" seemed miles wide. It just seemed out of place (considering we don't see that many "clear" rainbows out here) and all we could do is stare at it. I didn't see any columns of clouds or steam - but it looked straight up and down - couldn't see the top or rounded area. There's no way I could have taken a picture while I was driving. Ohhh, I've never seen a sundog!

I have never seen those type of rainbows but that is really nice. Rainbows are quite rare nowadays but the last 2 weeks I see a rainbow in the morning because the sun shine brights and it's slightly raining. The first one is beautiful because it's a double rainbow but it's quite blurred and it's quick to fade. The last one last for several minutes and quite clear over the sky.

Vertical, huh? You must have been very close to the pot of gold at the end of it. You should have stopped and had a look around... Or maybe, you are the pot of gold...
