Exfoliators

The market is flooded with creams that guarantee removal of dead skin. I was debating the other day with a friend about the uselessness of these products inasmuch as what I thought would do the job was a rough sponge or a Turkish towel.
And today I saw an Ad on tv about a so called exfoliating cream which they recommend be used using a scrubber. Wait a minute. Did they by any chance overhear what I was arguing about
? Why use the cream at all! I do not use any cream but do use a sponge and my skin is just fine.

I don't use an exfoliator cream-- but I do use an exfoliator scrub with crushed apricot pits in it, and a micro-dermabrasion machine
...
OK. So I hate being wrinkled. Two years ago, when I first saw my face in the mirror (after I woke up from the coma, and didn't know when I was) I was in serious shock. And I still get a shock every time I see myself-- because I am old, physically, but not mentally anymore. I hate the way I look, so this is the one thing that I do indulge myself in-- trying to get rid of the small wrinkles and prevent more for as long as possible. For people that grow old naturally, over time and see it every day, I don't think it would be an issue though I don't know that for sure-- but for me, it was and is a real issue.
It must be nice to recognize your face...

The scrub also has vitamins, plant extracts, oatmeal and Shea butter, so it makes the skin very soft. I have used a loofah before, and they do exfoliate well, and I also have a burlap scrubber that works well, but when I use my fingers and the scrub I can more easily work on the tiny areas around my nose, and eyes than I can with my scrubber, my loofah or my exfoliator machine with the pads. I think it's a personal preference for me, at least, though I do sometimes use the loofah or the scrubber on my face, I mostly use them on my body, with soap, to exfoliate everywhere else. The special scrub isn't actually expensive, it's a brand commonly sold in Walmart and grocery stores here, and a big tube (which lasts me over a month) is about 7 dollars when I don't have a coupon, less than six when it's on sale or I have a coupon, and it works better than regular soap for me. I tried regular soap, and skin cream after for while, but I didn't like the results-- I was getting dry patches here and there. Now my skin is very soft-- though still wrinkled, of course.

I actually did that when I first came out of the coma, and I do eat a very healthy diet, light on meats, heavy on the veggies, no salt, almost no sugar, cook from scratch-- but that doesn't stop the wrinkles, at least for me. I think part of it is genetics-- all of my female relatives don't age "gracefully" so to speak-- whereas I have known Chinese women who never looked old. Both the Irish and french sides of my family don't age well. I do know my skin is so much softer with the creams and stuff I use, which makes me feel good. I figure since I live a simple life, never go anywhere, and save as much as I can, buying my favorite lotions and creams and scrubs is kind of a treat for me.

I sometimes wonder if the smoothness of the skin has anything to do with creams rather than what one eats and drinks. I would put my bet on plain scrubs and the right kind of food and drinking plenty of water. Why don't you give up everything and go for your faithful loofah and intake of food that contains Vitamin E? Just a thought

i just use a face towel and moisturizing soap like dove in the shower about 2x a week, then make sure to put lotion after i towel off and got dressed. for my face, i sometimes use facial washes with beads in them, but again about 2x a week only.

Interesting. What are those beads that you have mentioned here?

One one gets addicted to creams or scrubs it is difficult to believe that plain scrubbing, eating the right food and drinking plenty of water is going to give one a smooth skin!

i think one of the pioneer brands was st. ives apricot scrub. it was the only one when i was growing up and at that time, there were very few imported foreign brands here. now even neutrogena, olay and clinique has them. but sometimes i do use the soapy face towel on my face when i feel that i needs a good scrubbing!

Sadly, my life-style should dictate that I relegate time for my "putting my best foot forward"...especially as I am such an outdoors-aholic, and exposed to ALL the elements...BUT, other than the good 'ol "loofah" for cleansing...I only use a "apricot-pit granular" cleanser about once a week, followed by a coconut-cream moisturizer (natural sources..no chems)! If I started NOW..it would be, TOO little..TOO late! Mother Nature has etched "time" into my complexion! If I were to be self-indulgent..I should have started many years ago..!

I should have thought about it...and I would have known that you have a plethora of coconuts, (silly me!) NOT in my environment..so I cannot add any processing information...but I DO CHALLENGE you, my dear...as the coconut palm..in all my research is ONE that is considered the "tree of life," and there is NO part of this wonderful creation that is not beneficial to the human! Very expensive here, but as I eliminate other basics, I am slowly replacing them with coconut products...butter, milk, cream, cooking oil, drink..and food!
I find the granulation of the Apricot cleanser (apricot nut oil, very beneficial, too) does a deep pore cleanse, and the loofah does it's chore of exfoliation!
All coconut products are imported here...so tend to be on the expensive end of the scale...(just like good quality Olive Oil)...but slowly eliminating the nefarious foods of no consequence or benefit!

While I don't know how to make a true cream coconut moisturizer, I do know a few coconut things--you can whip a small amount of coconut milk in a glass, with a few drops of olive, tea tree, coconut or vitamin E oil, and a teaspoon of honey, and use it as a "wash mask"-- it should be fairly viscous, so it doesn't run. hold your face over warm steam of soak with a warm washcloth to open the pores, then splash the coconut milk mixture on the face, let dry for ten minutes, and rinse of with cool water and a soft washcloth. I also have a recipe for a ground coconut mask: 1 cup ground coconut, 1 tablespoon coconut milk, 1 teaspoon oil of choice, 1 teaspoon honey, and blend to make a think paste. Prepare the skin by steaming or with a warm washcloth to open the pores, apply the mask, and leave on for 5 minutes, then lightly massage the face with the mask material for a few minutes before washing off. I use coconut when it's on sale, because I can eat the extra meat
You can also mix cucumber juice and coconut milk and use that instead of water to wash with. wow, I wish I had a coconut palm now! but I don't think one would grow outside here...drat. And unfortunately, processing coconut meat to make oil is time consuming...

They are making billions off those kind of products. It is sad the way that women line up to buy that kind of stuff when they can do things at home that works just as good if not better. I know there are products out there that we sometimes just like but marketing sure tries to make sure that they capitalize off the self confidence of people.

I hardly use any of these products. I use talcum powder, a little lipstick and that's it. My secret is I believe in homoeopathy which has some tissue remedies that take care of the body as a whole. I also have trust in Aloe vera which grows in my house.
One needs to keep the internal system clean and that will guarantee a glowing skin.
But it is mind boggling how the public is fooled by these companies that offer products which in fact are a mere eye wash.

I have never used an expoliating cream, like you I have loofah which I use in my morning bath. But in the evening, I no longer scrub as it will make my skin so much dry. I am actually afraid to use those cream as my skin is sensitive to some chemicals and it reacts in instant.
But some people I know have used expoliating creams in the past to remove blemishes and the most common reason why they use it is it makes their faces look fairer. I think that for some, it has good effects but others have been terrorized
and regret using it. Some products are actually too harsh for our skin but for the sake of being beautiful, many people have tried it.

There are anti aging natural foods. That, with your loofah will do what none of those creams that promise a smooth skin will do.Even drinking good amount of water helps. I really think these cream manufacturers are minting money by fooling the youngsters!

Yes, drinking lots of water can make our skin healthier. That is very effective.
