Have you ever......?

Have you ever started something big in your life and then just quit? I have quite a few times. Especially going to college. Several times I have started and then for some reason or other I just quit. This time around though, I'm going through to the end. I will be graduating in the Spring of 2013 with an Associate in Audio Recording degree. I'm sooooo close. Yay!! I guess I have a "start it and quit" personality. I have so many knitting, crocheting, and sewing projects that are waiting for me to finish them. I need to get those finished up, too. When I do finish a project, it's pretty cool because I get to see the end results of my efforts. Well, I know I will DEFINITELY like seeing my diploma next April.

I have also done the same thing. I started college, got pregnant and quit. I started to learn how to drive, got scared and quit. I am hoping to start changing that about myself because I don't want to be that way forever. Hopefully if I work at it I can change. The one thing I WANT to quit, I can't...Smoking.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as far as smoking goes. I've tried to quit several times, but I quit quitting! I don't think it's that I CAN'T, it's more like I guess I'm not 100% committed to it--that a part of me still enjoys it (even though I know that it's not good for me). I'm 29 and have smoked since I was 15, just over a pack a day right now. And, yes, I know that I am highly addicted to the nicotine. One thing I don't think I will do again is to try to quit cold turkey--last time I turned into a royal b**ch! I'm thinking of looking into the electronic cigs, though.

I am the worst about quitting jobs/careers. I do also have a treasure trove of unfinished projects, but I am working on them. I got my Associate's at 20, picked up a few odd classes and credits here and there in computer basics then became a widow. I had just determined to go back for a bachelor's and started a degree completion program at the same time I got a new job and a new gentleman friend and my sister who was ill moved in with me with her two kids and my two kids. I did not finish, barely started. Then I picked up a variety of Allied Health classes, which had certificates but also earned me college credits. I have let the certificates expire. I have no desire to go back and work toward a degree, but I would consider taking a Writing course to refresh my abilities as I do some freelance writing on the side. I joined a quilt guild this year, although I have never finished a quilt, I am going to some work shops and learning some things. I would like to earn enough online to quit my job and then do handwork for fun. My hubby is retired and I am younger and we do not have enough money if I do not work. Sorry, I just keep rambling on.

For me the quilt guild is a motivator. I do finish small things, but I actually have things that were my mom's to finish. I have a friend on this and another site who is my motivator, and I drive to her town to go to quilt guild. It is fun to have a co conspirator. My online writing is my money maker more than any other hobby.

It is fun to go somewhere where you will meet other people who have the same interest that you do. I went to a knitting group at a church last winter. I've not seen anything on their calendar for it though for several months. I'll have to find out if they still have the group or not. I really enjoyed sitting there and knit or crochet and just chit-chat with other people. It's a very relaxing time.

That's ok!! Maybe now that you see you have some unfinished projects, this writing it down has motivated you to finish them up!! Maybe one of these years you can finish up a quilt. I have made a few laptop quilts for my older daughters when they were little. You might be able to find something simple to make that could turn your little hobby (whatever it might be) into a little bit of a money maker.

I am the complete opposite. I hate starting something and not finishing it. I am currently desperate together new knitting projects and crochet projects but I have to finish the duvet I have been making. I have quite college once but, went back the next year. IM glad you have found something you,are sticking at. Good luck with this and hope you get some other projects finished soon!

Thanks angelsmummy. I know what you mean about hating not finishing a project. It has taken all my strength and effort to not quit college this time around. But now that I am so close to finishing this degree, I HAVE to finish. What are your favorite knitting and crocheting projects? I like to make hats, scarves, sweaters, and afghans. I've also crochet scrunchies (takes only about 20 minutes to make one) and knitted bath mitts. I have a blouse that I started LAST year and need to finish up, too.

IM sure you'll finish!! You seen to be determined. I make scarves, duvets and baby clothes. They are my favourite things that keep me quiet lol.

Oh yes many times, and the reason why is because I wasn't so sure what to do with my life. If you think about it, if you really wanted something so bad, you would do anything to accomplish your goals, but if you don't, it can only mean that you didn't want it in the first place. I quit college many years ago to run my own business (part time) and things are going well for me. However, I still have to go a 8 to 5 job because I live alone.

So you work 8 to 5 along with having your own parttime business? What kind of business is it? I'm not sure that I would have a parttime business without being able to devote more time to it. But like you said, you live alone and I can understand having to take on a fulltime job, too. Gotta pay the bills somehow. I have a little over 5 months left before I get my degree and hope to be able to move on after that. I know I won't be staying in this area as there is nowhere around here that has anything to offer as far as my major goes.

Good for you, asliah, that you have quit smoking. That is one thing that I do want to quit for the sake of my health. One thing I will NOT quit though is college. Right now, it is very important for me to finish so that I can prove to myself that I can accomplish something really big in my life.

I started Cosmetology School in May of 2011. I enjoyed it but as with everything in life, there were also things about it that I didn't like. I got pregnant in July of 2011 but I stayed in school for awhile. I did end up taking two leaves of absence. The first one lasted 72 days and it was suggested by my doctor due to the fact that I was around a lot of hair chemicals and it wasn't a safe environment at the time. I returned to school after the 72 days and stayed for awhile then took another leave because my morning sickness was just awful. That leave lasted until I had my daughter in April of 2012. I did end up quitting in May of 2012 because I wanted to be home with my daughter and even if I wanted to stay in school, I didn't have anyone to watch her. I couldn't afford a babysitter and my family members had to work while I was in school. I would like to go back to school but maybe not to Cosmetology School. I felt as if I didn't learn much from the experience and everything I did learn was strictly textbook and I could have taught myself. But I do know how you feel about starting things and not finishing them! Good luck with earning your diploma! It will definitely look good on your wall. :)
