I am fond of making myself look good. I put on some creams to keep wrinkles at bay and keep my skin smooth despite me being already in my middle age. I always see to it that I always dress impeccably when I go to the office. I also would have my hair rebonded when it becomes curly and makes me look like a witch. I always would put on some make-up when I go to my job. I buy new clothes, bags and shoes whenever my budget can afford it. Am I being vain, my friends?

I know you are still beautiful at your age now. Are you allowed to wear tight jean skirt to the office? I think you will look more attractive in that.

Thank you, yan , for saying so. Do you mean skinny jeans? Yes , as long as you are corporate looking overall. I love wearing jeans in my stilletos. I chose jeans that are not so tight though, because if it is , i seem to feel that i can't breath well specially when sitting.

Hi! There is nothing wrong in papmpering yourself and looking good by way of wearing nice make up and dresses. It is a positive quality to make ourselves smarter. This shows we value ourselves and keep telling ourselves how important we are. Others always appreciate when we are smartly dressed. Keep it up.

That is what i am really thinking ,my friend. Actually that is one way of loving ourselves and taking care of our bodies. And besides, if we can do something that we can afford in keeping ourselves looking good always, why not? In the end, we benefit from it anyway.

Well, it's becoming normal nowadays. But since you said you belong in the middle aged people, then maybe, yes, it's vain. It's good for yourself when you always make yourself look good for the people around you especially when you're going to work.

Oh well, i don't really care if it's vanity. I have to always look good, because my being an executive assistant calls for it. Besides, i always want to look good for my husband.

A typical form of vanity is what you had described above. For me, I don't think that there's a dilemma to be in this kind of rituals for beauty. Some guys do the same thing.

Well my friend, if one can do something to retard aging, without much expense, why not? Vanity though it may be, it gives one the confidence. Yeah, even guys now do the same thing.

It's just proper to pamper one's self and be happy. It's one way of keeping the youthfulness outside and inside. The more you give value to beauty, the more the life would reveal it's beauty to you:)

Hi Friend, Well you're vain but in a good way. They always say 'Dress to Impress' and that's what you're certainly doing. Most of the time we really have to dress good to feel good. When you're always in your best self then you're ready to take on all challenges with confidence. It's always better to dress up than to dress down. :)

Personally I always defined vanity as being consumed with looks and thinking that because you have looks then you should get something. Like, "I'm beautiful, so people should like me." Or, "I'm pretty, so I should get that job." Or, "I'm good-looking, so that person should want to date me." I don't think there's anything wrong with paying attention to how you look and trying to look your best, as long as it's not all-consuming.

Hi SimplyD Look Good is what everyone tries to do. And trust me, i believe looks are good only when you have a cleaner and puerer heart with noble thoughts. I have seen you only on Photos and known you only via your discussions, but from them I can be sure that in real life too you are someone who has a nobler thought and a clearer and cleaner heart. That does make you look good somewhere. And the makeup and other things you mention that you do when going out for work or otherwise, definitely, these are the times when you have to make yourself presentable, professionalism does demand many untold and unwritten things

Oh sids, thank you for saying that. And i am glad that even in my discussions my noble thoughts and deeds have been noticed by you. And i indeed agree with you that we have to make ourselves always presentable since we are employed. Although, even at home i always want to look good so my husband will still be proud of me.

Here too women are more conscious of their look, more so the office goers, when women cross 40 they become more careful too, this i say from my experience, the lady lecturers are more careful. thanks for sharing

Yes, i noticed that too professor. Maybe because when a woman reaches 40, the tendency is that some of her feature might start changing . Thus, to retard it, we have to do some things which are readily available for all, even with no much expense.

Thank you for understanding my friend. Since i am working in an office, i always have to be presentable. Besides, if we can enhance our looks by using those beautifying creams, why not?

ohh not at all dear. Actually all this has become normal these days. Even the climatic conditions are not good with lot of pollution so we need to take some extra care of our body.

Well, that's what i think too also. Everybody is into putting creams and whatever to their faces just so that they can at least enhance their faces. If we have the means why not, right?
• Philippines
24 Nov 12
No, I won't consider that as being vain. Getting yourself a new bag or shoe whenever you can is just normal. making sure that you look presentable, is just normal as well. In conventional parlance, vanity is the excessive belief in one's own abilities or attractiveness to others (wikipedia) and what you have been doing is just normal.

Yeah i know. but somehow, i am thinking otherwise because i am already middle aged. But what the heck, the more that i should try to make myself presentable always because i am aging already. I should do some things to retard my aging looks, right?

There's nothing wrong with wanting to look good, if its something that makes you happy and feel good about yourself. You said you get your "vanity stuff" whenever your budget allows you to so I assume that you have a good control over your spending and that's even better. It means while you pride yourself in looking good, you don't let this take over your life, nor you sacrifice the basic necessities over these stuff. I myself likes to take care of myself and pamper myself once in a whole, like some sort of pat in my own back for a job well done either at work or at home. And whenever I "beautify" myself, the shine in my husband's eyes tell me it's all worth it. But like you, nothing too expensive and I make sure that I don't go overboard.

Yes that's very true my friend. As long as it makes us feel good and confident , why not. Besides, i see to it that if ever i will have to buy or beautify, it's within my budget. I don't want my necessities to be compromised so i budget them wisely. Yes, i know too that my husband likes it that i keep myself looking good, because actually it's for him also.
