I've been running around for months trying to get Dearra's elbow diagnosed. So after x-rays and anti-inflammatories and an MRI and blood tests we have it. Approximately. Some form of arthritis. Either juvenile inflammatory arthritis or possibly psoriatic arthritis. She is not happy.
This morning she was really upset. Basically, most types of arthritis can be treated, but not cured. She was upset that she has something like this at age 15.
"Why is it always me?"
Felt so bad for her.

I am so sorry, Dawn!
I have both psoriasis and arthritis, although the doctor said that in my case they were not related. But pains and a not so nice skin are things one does not want to have when you are a teen. I hope that Dearra doesn`t meddle with those kind of girls who will point out her flaws, hoever small.

Interesting. Mine started right after Dearra was born...

My psoriasis was triggered at 19 years of age, when I had my first daughter. Thinking it over, I can understand the stress I had then, although I had house help. Up tp then, I thought that babies were a sort of cute living dolls
. My doll cried in the middle of the night and soiled diapers
. I hope Dearra does not get psoriasis.

Awww, poor Dearra, I can't imagine what she's going through. So they can treat it, as in relieve the pain, but it can't be cured? Have you considered looking at natural ways for her to care for her elbow?

Yes, but it was car accident related. The damnage it did to my neck and back, the entirety of my spine caused me to have arthritis. And it also led to the multiple back and neck surgeries. If I think about the man who ran me off the road that day I can let myself get very bitter. So I try not to.

Man, you're another one a lot of bad things seem to happen to.. arthritis so young, all the migraines.. just awful, and you're such a nice person too.
Is your tummy feeling better?
Mine started hurting tonight.. a weird pain for the past few hours that won't go away, almost like a cramp. Since hubby had his appendix out he keeps associating my pain with what he went through.. making me think I could have appendicitis.. awesome! It's probably not, but you know how those fears go.

There's some antigen in the blood that they test for, and I guess they didn't find it.

I have heard about this type of arthritis but really no nothing about it and I'm old...i should be the one with arthritis! I would probably go with the natural treatments for it but that's me. Do some research. My mother had arthritis and I gave her a mixture of grape juice and certo. She said it helped her more than the meds. I'm sure there are many ways to treat it naturally . I'd honestly just research. I would not just go with one doctor's advice on something like this. I'm sorry you are going through this. Things just do not let up in your world do they? Good grief, lady!! You need a break!! I'm going to pray that you get one!

This is most likely an autoimmune disorder Dawnald. I've seen young kids with rheumatoid arthritis. Their little hands look like they are 80 years old cause they grow crooked from the swollen joints. I hope your daughter can have a full life in spite of this.

Based on the diagnosis, yes it's an autoimmune disease.

Hello dawnald. As I have dealt with rheumatoid arthritis for about 30 years. I really hate to see or know that one so young has it. My primary care Dr has a niece that is only about 6 years old and she has had it most of her life. It is in remission for now. I would suggest that you find a good Rheumatologist.
We think that my younger brother has Juvenile Rheumatoid arthritis, when he was in his early teens. The thing is he seemed to out grow it because he joined the Air Force and Had now left over symptoms. Hopefully Dearra will also out grow hers, if that is what it is. There are foods that help with the pain and swelling.
This web site might give you a starting place to find help. I know I have taken raw honey with unfiltered Apple cider vinegar and raw honey with ginger for swelling. Turmeric is another. These may not be what you want but they are a start.

Well, you really need to let her know that she isn't alone in suffering from a form of arthritis as a child. I've been there and done that, but mine developed as a result of the fact that I had a very traumatic ankle break when I was eight years old. They told me right off the bat that I would probably experience arthritis as a result of the accident that I was involved in.
That all said, I can also understand why she is upset about it, but if she understands that it can be treated and also that it won't always bother her, it might be something that will make her feel better.

Sorry to hear that. I hope she can find a treatment that will help her with it. My daughter has had eczema since age 3 - you either grow out of it or you don't. When we moved, we purposely got a house with zero carpeting (and we've always thought those apartment carpets were part of the culprit) and her skin has cleared up tons. Either that or she is truly growing out of it. In any case, if you have long term eczema, I guess you have "maintain" and take care of it when the flare ups happen . . . and I feel bad if my daughter has to go through that - which she still may. Did they explain how the arthritis came to be?

Sorry to hear someone in pain like this. I'm not a doctor but I can tell you something from an experience I have had. I had bad pain in my elbow for three weeks once before I self diagnosed myself with osteoarthritis. I took only two capsules ( w/food) of Schiff Move Free Advanced Triple Strength dietary supplement, with Glucosamine and Chondrotin Sulfate and the pain was gone in an hour! Truely a miracle supplement. It might not work for others and my my leg when my colitis was flaring up once as well it took 2 weeks to cease. The supplement isn't cheap and it is chancy to try to use but it was worth it for me. I was reading something on the Internet about it one day and it just struck me as something I might try to help my arm as I didn't have insurance back then either and the pain was really bothering me alot. Ask a doctor is a 15 yr old can take it, but most probably won't like you to take it though cause it will take away money from them most likely. So be forewarned as well.

Sorry that it was not better news. At least it is not cancer or something life threatening. It is difficult to deal with things at that age.

I have another friend on here whose daughter, about the same age, has been going through similar, with her knee. Still not satisfied with the diagnosis, and the symptoms all went away when she took a trip to England. Not sure it is a cure, but the young lady feels better. She was being told to take a prescription plus Naproxen daily. Not a good regimen for someone that age.

I feel for her too. I have had arthritis for a very long time...it is very painful. Sometimes the pain is like something nothing can touch to relieve. I just recently found out I also have bursitis in my hip. The treatment is going well so far....now if we can just get my knee better! LOL.....

I'm sorry to hear about this child's condition. I understand that what's she's going through right now is not easy, yet I believe that she can overcome this feeling. Just let her think that every thing is not bad and their is a purpose. I'm not quite sure about what your belief is but I will pray that this teenager will be healed in the name of Jesus! Healing be upon her!
