What is that thing?! Goodness, this is really disgusting! My husband and i are just away from home for a day, only ONE day...and something really gross happened. I am not sure what it was, but i think maybe it's a RAT! In our country, there is a type of squirrel, but it is not a pure squirrel. It is a mixture of a rat. It has a feature of a rat head and body, but the tail likened to a squirrel which is bushy. Have you seen it before? In the morning before we left to work, i heard a bang on the gate, and i thought my husband was outside at the car porch and wanted to come in. So i went to look, but he was no one to be seen (he was in the kitchen actually). And i saw this "squirrel" beneath our car staring at me. I quickly closed the door so that it wouldn't try to enter the house again. Yesterday night when we went home, i saw a few small poops here and there on the floor all over the house. It even urinated on our sofa!! Arrghhh... Then we follow its urinate trace up the stairs, and even to the rooms. It went to our room as well, and urinates beside my bed! I freaked out that it might have climbed up our bed. YUCKS! We were so tired last night, and yet have to spend time cleaning up the urine and poop, it does gave us a hard night. We still found some stain this morning and got it cleaned up. I am worried this pest is still somewhere in the house, but i couldn't but i couldn't find it! I hope it has left through the window opening from the toilet yesterday. This morning we closed up the all toilet doors and room doors before leaving the house. Hopefully is nowhere hiding in the house, otherwise i would faint seeing it running across me! Urrgh!

Rats and squirrels are closely related so this does not surprise me at all. I suppose your homes are more open than ours or he just found some way in. I hope it is not still in your house. I have had an opossum come in my house, but I chased it out and quit leaving the outer door open.

Hi GardenGerty, the squirrel in our country really looks like a rat, except for its bushy long tail... Actually we only left the main door ajar as my husband and i are leaving for work soon. Least did we know it would run into the house, and hid itself. Then after we left for work, the animal left a mess in the house with its poop and urine all over the place. But it did left through a window from the toilet. Now we closed all doors, and don't dare to leave it open anymore. I don't want to risk having it coming into the house ever again. It was a total nightmare.

Oh my goodness. That was so "urrgh"! How did that thing come in? Don't you think they have lived there in your house even before and just finding a way to sneak out for a day? My mom hates those kinds too and she's like you - most possibly faint. Is that it in the picture?

Haha! I remember my mom who's very afraid of rats. She wanted them killed but cannot do the cleaning so she bought a fly paper, yes, it's for flies but can be used for rats and roaches too or any insect that could stick to it. She can't bear looking at the rats or even throwing the paper.

squirrel - This is a forest squirrel in Malaysia.
Hi adnileb, sorry for the late response. Lately been busy with a lot of work and rushing for my closing peak period. Finally get to find some time to do some mylotting. Yeah, really gross. It came in through the main door. My husband left it ajar and went to the kitchen. I was upstairs coming down when i suddenly heard a bang on the gate. I thought my husband was opening the gate and wanting to come in. So i went to see, but to my surprise he was no where to be seen (actually he was in the kitchen). And then i saw a squirrel-like-rat, a type of squirrel of my country's kind staring at me. Immediately i shut the door, hoping it doesn't enters the house. Least did i know that there was another already came into the house (hidden somewhere). Just the one that stared at me didn't managed to enter together with its partner. Oh my... Finally it found its way out through the window from the toilet. The size is big enough for it to go out. The picture is just an example. I wanted to search for the poop picture of a rat which i find it similar to this squirrel-like-rat that enters my house. The actual one i suspect is this squirrel which i attached the picture here. It has the head and body of a rat, but the tail is somewhat slightly bushy.

I had a raccoon infestation that started in my place a couple of years ago, give or take. Was finally able to find people who could humanely remove them and let them out far enough away that they wouldn't be coming back. Like your squirrel rat, they loved to pee and poop. They even threw up at times. UGH!!! They also chewed on and ruined several of my things as well as knocking things over and breaking them. What a mess!!!

Hi AJ1952Chats, that is a terrible mess! Eeewwww...i can't stand having it chew and ruin my things in the house. That squirrel rat is already out from my house, and i hope it will never enter the house again. I just saw it ran across the road to the drainage from my neighbor's house. So, i quickly notify my husband to close the door to avoid having it running into the house without us noticing. We have to be careful at all time...sigh... Hope there is no more raccoon infestation near your place. Otherwise, it will be a headache like us, needing to watch out at all times.

I had critters in the attic. They tore up all the insulation, not to mention adding their stink. When I had the roof redone, along with soffits and facia a couple years ago, I thought was finally rid of them, but something got in somehow and did more damage. So I understand your revulsion. Hope you solve your problem.

Hi BarBaraPrz, sorry to hear the troubles you gone through with these critters. Yes, it is really annoying and frustrating having them around damaging and stinking your area. I wouldn't be able to withstand it if it happens to me. Even the mess it makes to my house is enough to drive me crazy. It was such a nuisance. Thank you for your concern. Yes, we have cleared up the poops and urine. Good thing it left the house before we were home. And from now on, we are always keeping every doors in the house closed, giving the animal no room to enter the house if by chance it try to come in.

You have to make a trap to catch the rat. Since it is managed to get into the house it won’t go out by its own. So please do something to run away the creature from inside home. Fortunately our current house is free of that kind of creatures. In our earlier house was adjacent to grocery shop’s go-down, all the rats keep on coming to our home making holes down the doors. We made many efforts to close those holes. Thankfully we vacated that home. I really can’t tolerate any rats in home. Yes, the urine is very dangerous you have to take extra care and clean the home. Sorry to hear the nuisance at your home. Hope you will find a solution very soon.

Hi Sreekala, actually we thought the squirrel-like-rat was still in the house. But actually it left the house on the same day through a window from the toilet. Good thing it left...otherwise i will go crazy worrying when it will suddenly pop out giving me a good fright. Yes, i agree that its urine is dangerous. Hopefully i don't have to put up with this ever again. Now we close up all the doors to every room, and every toilet. Giving it no loopholes to enter into the house. Hope this works. Thank you for your sharing. And have a nice day.

I used to have this problem too. About four months ago when I returned from a 3 month trip away, I was shocked to find little black pellets of poop around the house and I immediately knew it was a rat infestation. I had packed all my stuff into boxes because I was going to shift out of the place I was staying in about a couple of weeks, and was I shocked to open up a few of those boxes and black poop and urine were found in a few of those boxes, predominantly in boxes where I have kept food products. Apparently it had chewed a large hole through the boxes! I tried cleaning some of the items which were non-consumable with cleaning products, but one thing I found out about rat urine is that the smell is so strong that even after using cleaning products the smell still lingers around. I ended up throwing most stuff away that were affected. It was a total nightmare trying to clean the mess and I was really annoyed with the things that I had to throw away (some with sentimental value). Now that I have shifted to another living place, I hope I would never have to deal with these pests again!

Hi gerald_lian, so sorry to hear that experience of yours. Yes, i totally agree that it was a total nightmare cleaning the mess. I hope i would never ever meet this problem again too. I shut all the doors in the house, rooms, giving no loophole for the animal to come in at all. I wouldn't want risking any chance for it to enter the house ever again. It is really sad that much of your things with sentimental value needs to be thrown. Fortunately mine wasn't that bad. Only the worst furniture that got urinated was the sofa. Since it is leather, so it wasn't badly damaged. If it were made of cushions, i think we will have a big headache already. Wish you well with the new place you are staying. Have a nice day.

Hi hotsummer, my place is new and clean. I don't know why this animal came into my house. I think it's just by mistake....hope i would never face this ever again. I really dislike it. Fortunately it left the house through an opened window from the toilet. Otherwise i would be screaming seeing it running around in my house.

Oh my goodness, I would FREAK out if I saw that thing scurrying around the house...It looks like a rat to me, but I have never actually seen one except in movies.

Hi, When animals shares our house, they are supposed to follow certain protocols but then we can't really blame them if they behave like one. The only way to deal with them is to make the house animal-proof like a simple tightening of the doors and windows, fixing those holes in the walls and the like.

Hi rog0322, thanks for the suggestion. Now we are much more careful, and keep all doors closed. We also found out where it came in from, and where from where it left. We guess it right, though. That time this pest did not enter through any holes in the house, and we don't have any actually. It was from the door ajar because we were getting ready to go out for work. Least did we thought that a squirrel-like-rat came into the house already while we are away from the door (not for long). Really cheeky and cunning... I don't want to face seeing any of it in the house ever again. Really gross!
