What do you do with change?

Normally i keep my change and place it into a Cute teddy bear piggy bank. I let it accumulate until i have at least $100. I count it out roll it and change it into bills. Then i use it on a special treat - a game, electronic gadget I've been eyeing up or even put an extra payment onto a credit card. Sometimes I'll even use the change I've saved to put towards birthday gifts or Christmas gifts. What do you do with your change?

Throw it in a box. Then take it to the casino. One of the local casinos here will give you bills for it. Then I divide it up between the children.

Thats a cool idea. I think the nearest Casino is about 6 hours from here though. I've only ever been in two...and i've only ever spent about $20 dollars in the first one!

Mum and I have a jar which we both put loose change in, and just before Christmas we count it all up and it goes towards the food shopping we have to buy in for Christmas, the money soon mounts up and it's a great help when Christmas comes, the expense will buying all the presents etc.

It is a long time since I used to collect loose change in that manner. I still have a one gallon whisky bottle that I used to put the change into, which did seem to accumulate quite rapidly. There was never any specific purpose that I saved the money, but it was nice to suddenly be in possession of a decent amount of cash without actually noticing the difference while saving it. The company I work for has vending machines in the canteen, so all my loose change is used in that respect nowadays. If I do accumulate a fair quantity of change then I simply keep it at one side to avoid being short of change at a later date.

My husband and I don't get change very often as we tend to use our debit cards. However, whenever we do we give it to our youngest son. That way he can have a little pocket change. Right now he wants to save it up so he can use it towards the State Fair this year. I don't think the banks around here takes change, or if they do they charge customers for it. So I don't bother taking it to the bank anymore. Happy mylotting!

State Fairs are fun! Our bank still takes change - i like having it rolled up to take in. Pennies however i'm sure are going to be no longer accepted over time here.

In the past, I usually keep the change in my wallet and the next time I make a purchase use those coins I kept . Even if I don't use all of my loose change, it's ok because I don't have to get more coins from this purchase and so the coin slot in my wallet is always pretty flat. Now I mainly use my credit card so I don't run across that much loose change but if I do I keep it to do laundry instead.

That makes sense. I am so glad we have a washer in the house so i dont have to remember to have change for laundry.

We have a piggy bank in the kitchen and my husband and I place our change in that piggy bank. When the piggy is full we take the money to the bank and deposit it in our bank account. We don't spend the money on anything special, we usually just deposit the money in our account and spend it on the usual expenses like bills and food. If we emply the piggy back in December we usually spend the extra money on christmas gifts. It is always exciting to see how much money we have collected in the piggy bank. We don't count the money while we collect it, so the amount is always a surprice. Sometimes there is much more money than we expected and that is always to positive surprice

I wish I could do that but usually I only get to maybe $10 saved in my piggy bank and I end up using it for some gas or some cheap groceries to get me through until my husband's payday. I think it's great that you save it and then use it the way you do. You're very smart to do that. It must be like a special treat when you get it. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

It very much is a special treat when i do spend it. I saved tips and such for a couple months and had around 150 which i actually used on christmas shopping.

Most of my change I use to wash my clothes in the laundrette as all the machines are coin operated.Though the machines won't accept one and two pence coins. So I tend to put all my one and two pence coins in a jar.And then when I have saved a decent amount I take it to the bank and put it into my savings account. If I continue doing this I will eventually accumulate a decent amount of money which I can put towards something I really want.I also put any money I earn online into the same savings account eventually I hope to put the money towards the deposit for a house.

That is an awesome idea. Sadly the last few weeks i have "robbed" my change jar to pay for little things.

I put it aside at the end of each day too. I have a piggy bank I use for this, and then I take the cash to the bank when it's full. I find it to be a great way to save actually. I use it for special treats as well, or use it when I need to buy presents, need spending money for trips... stuff like that :)

I separate-out the quarters (coz I can use them thangz!) into a separate 'piggy bank' (really, an old 'Tootsie Roll'-tube), and then throw the rest into a bucket out of which I take a handful for the kids on Sabbath.

My husband & I do the same thing. In our case we have this cute little blue plastic piggy bank that our bank gave us when we opened an account with them. We've had this thing for years. Every time either of us has spare change we put it in the little bank & when it's filled to the top we then roll it up & deposit it in our bank. Then we treat ourselves to either something we both want or a nice dinner out.
