Are You A Traveler?

Sumaguing Cave - Located at the Cordillera region.

This is one of the best and most beautiful places I've ever visited. It is really beautiful and an all-natural tourist spot located at the Northern part of the Philippines, particularly at the Cordilleras. This is actually a crystal cave that can amaze you with its shiny wall, roofs, and floors. This can also bring you a little adventure since it is totally dark inside and so you will need a really very strong light in order to normally walk inside and so that you can be able to see how beautiful it is. I can't even know how to describe it, but you will definitely know how great our Almighty Creator is when you see the place, it is really an awesome creation. The moment I stepped into the cave, I felt I was in a different world and I didn't even want to leave because all I want was to look and feel its beauty. Not only this cave that you will see in this place, you can also witness the so-called 'hanging mummies' which are wonderful, you can also visit some historical places and see beautiful mountains. I really suggest that you go visit this place most especially if you are near the Cordillera region, if you consider yourself a traveler, you should put this on your list. I like traveling but sadly I haven't visited many places as compared to others, but if given a chance, why not. I travel whenever I have time and when there is enough budget.

I love traveling with friends. I love visiting places with them. I don't like going anywhere alone too. I've been Benguet and Sagada a few years ago. I like looking at the beautiful view travelling up there. We went caving and trekking when we were in Sagada. So tiring to do it but satisfying too. How I wish I could go back again with hubby, my baby and of course our friends.

Haha there is nothing to worry about the roads because there are no narrow roads anymore and also they were concreted and widen now. And I do not recommend jeepney, you better use a van.

I really wish to go back again to show hubby how beautiful that place is. Hubby was in England that time when my friends and I went there. I just have little fears of riding a jeepney up there in a thick foggy narrow road. I've heard that a jeepney fell off a cliff. Probably in two years I'll be able to go back there when I have the money for travelling.

Sumaguing Cave - This was our photo inside the cave. We were trying to pass through that small hole, and whew.. i did it... The tourist guide told us that everyone fits there even the biggest person in the world. Maybe it was just a word of encouragement that we need to try hard passing through that small hole. This was inside the Sumaguing Cave.
Such great to know that you have visited also these caves. They are really very challenging and beautiful caves and they are well preserved. I had experienced the spelunking there 4 years ago. and I did survive the caving. Quite difficult but yes, with persistence I just did. I had a hard time rappelling and when I did it, whew I cried after. I thought I can not do it and won't be able to climb the the other side otherwise, we have to go back to where we started and it was already almost 3/4 of the journey. and aside from that feeling, I know that it will be a failure feeling. so I really did try hard... and yes, I did it... we started the caving after lunch and we went out around 6pm...

You have written an excellent description. Sadly, I have not been off this continent. I have been briefly to Canada and to Mexico a few times, but not very far. I have traveled a lot in the US, though. Caves are awesome. I will even probably do an internet search about these places so that at least my laptop can take me traveling. When you travel do you go by car? That is how I do most of my traveling here in the US. I have been in three caves in my life. One is actually a restaurant inside. The other two are famous tourism sites. It has been a long time. I hope maybe I can visit a cave next summer as they are very cooling during the heat.

Yeah traveling just to visit awesome places is quite expensive and a lot of people can not afford. The name of the place is Sumaging Cave, you can try googling it or you can try searching some posts for tourist spots in the Cordillera regions, I think there are some articles about these places.

I have not visited the place yet. I hope one day, I will be able to do so. I am from the Philippines and have been to different places in our country. From Mt. Mayon in Luzon, the underwater cave in Palawan, Mt. Apo in Kidapawan, the springs ion Camiguin, even the enchanted river in Surigao, I have been the. They certainly are great wonders of nature. Upon riding your post, it kind of sparks the adventure in me and perhaps on of this days, I will surely go there.

I like the way you described the cave but I guess I could not go that far as of this time for lack of budget and time. I once went to Bohol and I had also gone to a cave there, the Hinagdanan Cave. It is just a small cave with a river inside it. But I could not bear to stay long in that cave. I'm afraid of the darkness. But there are some who really like to stay, they even swim in that river.

I just don't know why but at my age I'm really afraid of the dark. I agree with there must be serious budgeting in traveling. You know when I went to Boracay not for leisure but we had our convention there, I checked in at a very cheap hotel and I had hard time stretching my budget.

Happy for you that you've been traveled on those amazing tourists spots in the Northern part of our country. I am now proud that I've grew up in the Northern part but unfortunately I do not have the chance to go for a travel or visit those awesome places because of lack of time. But I'm still very happy that I've grew up near the beach that almost living in the city is longing for. I love travelling and adventure and if I get the chance also to go then I'll be the blessed one. Lack of time and budget are my problem too. lol.

It seems that you visited Sagada and I agree with you that it is one of the most beautiful places to travel. I have also traveled other places, but I can fairly say that in terms of people and the sights, the Cordilleras are still on top of my list. I have just spent a weekend in Bulacan exploring some of the historical caves there and I am disappointed with the lack of care or maintenance of the said park, considering it is a national park. I also don't have that much money in terms of traveling but I have a friend who also loves to travel and we do keep a tight budget. We were able to visit Sagada, Banaue, Batad and Baguio in four days for only P3000 (that's roughly $75). No, we didn't eat canned goods during our stay. My friend and I just did a lot of research, so when we would ask and locals would give us tourist prices, we would say no. Like for example, the ride to Batad saddle we were told by the local tourist office that we need to pay P2000 for the jeepney ride which we of course balked. So we decided to have breakfast first and we were lucky to befriend the restaurant owner near the bus terminal and we were told that we could hitch a ride for P150 each, which is the price we know from our research. Money or time should not be a hindrance when it comes to traveling. If you can go, definitely go travel. Especially now that a lot of our natural attractions are disappearing due to neglect, natural calamities or just simply due to the changes in our environment. Also, travel while you are young and your knee joints aren't groaning with the pressures of walking for hours. Best of luck on your next destination.

We spent most of our budget on our fare going from one point to another. We already knew where to stay that would only cost us P200 a night and I do have a house in Baguio, so we spent P600 each for our room and board. Now, people who read this might say that we stayed at a cheap hotel but no. These were inns and the places we stayed are quite clean. I can even say cleaner than some hotels I've stayed in here in Manila. As for the food, we also had a budget on how much we could spend on one meal. That's why we were able to stretch out our P3000. When we see tour offers for three times that price and only for one location, my friends and I laugh. It's much better when you plan your trip ahead. It's less hassle and you won't find any dull moments thinking of where to go next. Or become disappointed because of the restrictions of your package tour.

Yes, I think too that when it comes to people, I would prefer to mingle with highlanders. No offense to the lowlanders but this is how I feel although I have friends who are lowlanders and are nice. Maybe because I grew up as a highlander too. Having visited those places that are far from each other with that kind of budget is I think being wise. Baguio to Banaue alone will cost a price, and yet you were able to visit some places still. It is really nice when you plan to go to a place away from town and you do researches about it before you go. I agree, budget is very important but we should not always reason out that we will only travel if we have the enough money. Less we know, time is passing and one day we are to regret that we didn't visit the place.

Wow! That's really a wise trip! Planning is indeed very needed in travelling. Strict budgeting and self control is also very important. Tourists tend to buy unnecessary things when going to a trip even though they that they have a very limited budget. When self discipline is lacked, the whole trip might get pretty messed up

I really enjoy travelling but I can't afford to do it as much as I would like.At the moment I am a student at university so I can't go away travelling during term time and I have to make the most of the holidays to work and earn money. When I finish at University I would like to be able to go travelling for a while hopefully through most of europe.Though i doubt i will be able to as I pill probably need most of my money in order to pay a deposit on a flat.Though as soon as i can afford to do so i will definitely go travelling. The absolute dream is to have my own boat which I can travel the world in though i know that is never likely to happen unless i win the lottery or something as i mean a pretty big boat.

For me traveling should be enjoyed the most and should be willingly done. For your case, I guess you are being wise for your decisions because paying for your flat is far more important than your traveling. For instance, just imagine yourself after a short travel vacation, you went home and you found the owner of the house you are renting shouting at you because you were not able to pay. These are the things everyone should consider when deciding on a trip, travel, or anything. But just keep dreaming, you will never know one of these days you will be living your dreams :)

I want to visit that place. I stayed in Baguio City for five years and I didn't have a chance to visit that place. How I wish I could go there soon. There are lots of places in Philippines that are so amazing. From beaches to caves. I have been to Ilocos Norte and went somewhere where there's a rock formation. It was awesome, maybe just like the walls of Sumaguing cave. Sagada is different place too??

Hi devonavis:) Travelling needs a lot of time and money so for us we have to really save a lot and block dates for it. It's better now that there are flight promos offered. I think I saw the place you're describing in a TV show I can't recall what the show was, or maybe it was another place which has the same descriptions of the cave. I heard in Palawan there are caves like that too. To be honest I'm not really fascinated with caves, not that I don't agree it's beautiful. I know it's beautiful (though I haven't really seen one yet) because of the so many positive reviews about the place. It's just that I imagine it to be very dark and that's what I'm scared of. If I get the chance to go to such places I think that feeling will go away because I know we will go in as a group and there are guides of course. Our country really has many beautiful places, hope we'll have the chance and opportunity to explore them :)

Yes possibly featured in some TV shows, and yeah I guess it really needs that real budget and a long span of time should be considered in planning for any trip or a travel. Never seen a cave in your life personally? haha I tell you, you should try one, they're really beautiful and and do not be scared because such tourist spots are very well-managed and secured so it's safe. Just don't go alone. Haha

I am not a traveler, however the Cordilleras sounds beautiful. I wish I were able to travel more and go all over the world, however with my kids being so young it is practically impossible. When they reach adult age, my husband and I plan to travel around the world and go to all the places that we have always wished we could visit. This is gonna be such a great time and I will make sure to take a lot of pictures and create a travel diary with many wonderful stories. The location you mentioned will be on my list of places to go.

God bless you with that plan. Parents should really take time to have vacations like travel vacations in order to relax themselves most especially for the old ones :) And having little children can be hinder in travelling but I think you have a very wise plan. By the time your children reach adulthood, they are already done with their studies and they're gonna have stable jobs and earning a good salary, and I think a good child will always normally reward his parents. Who knows, one of your children will sponsor a travel for both of you and you husband :)

I used to be a traveller in my younger days, I was always going off to new places far and home, although believe it or not it actually took me 26 years to get on board a plane, I was terrified of flying at the time, then when I first flew I quite enjoyed it. I have never, however been further than Europe which is my home continent. I used to dream of going to places like New Zealand, Australia and China, but the length of the flight put me off. I would always prefer to travel alone, it was more of an adventure. There is so much in this world to see and yet so little time.

I've never tried flying but I heard stories that flying for the first time is quite scary and gets you nervous but when you do it often then you will surely overcome that fear. People have their preferences in traveling and I see you enjoy being alone, and it is true that it is really an adventure because you will be dependent to your self or your natural instincts and skills.

I love traveling and have been to around 60 different countries. Earlier this year for one month I visited South America with my 3 year old daughter and my 5 year old son. We visited Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Uruguay. Last year we went to the Caribbean coastline of Colombia. In 2010 we went to Vancouver in Canada. Pregnant with my daughter in 2009 I took my disabled son to Cape Town and the Garden Route. Whilst my disabled son was a baby and toddler I visited other countries in Europe. In 2008 we explored Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. He was 13 months old on that trip. His first trip happened when he was 4 months old and we went to Portugal. My best trip happened in 2006 and it was to Central America. I visited Mexico, Belize and Guatemala on that excellent trip. In 2005 I visited the Maldives and in 2004 I went to the Seychelles. I visited New Zealand and the Pacific Islands in 2001 and 2002. In 2000 I went to Western Australia. My trip around the world happened in 1993 and 1994. It lasted just over one year. I let out my cottage and got a working holiday visa for that trip of a lifetime.
