Many of you are aware that I enjoy gardening and this year picked a lot of tomatoes. Somebody asked me yesterday about the growing season of a tomato and my comment was this area has a longer growing season then most of the country in the United States. I picked tomatoes yesterday and still see more that I'll be picking next week, if the weather stays nice. Right now, it looks like I'll have fresh tomatoes until the end of December, so it has been a great year for tomatoes in this area. What crop have you picked a lot of this year? Have you figured out what to do with the crop? We froze, gave away, made sauce, juice, and some went right on top of pizzas after being sliced. I'll admit love to eat them right after picking them.

That is great. I love farming and harvest time is great. When I was a kid I dreamt of having a farm. I hope God will grant my desire someday. I used tp plant vegetables like tomatoes too in my yard before. And when it bore fruit already I was really happy. :-) Thanks for this discussion. Have a nice day and God Bless

Ohh wow that's a good idea. Hope your wish will be granted. My grandparents have a farm where they grow lots of vegetables i enjoy when ever i visit them. But the problem is that's not possible in the city where we live.

Thanks for posting. I use to live on a farm and we grew a lot of crops. It was great to be able to grow almost all of our food. I know many people don't have much room to grow pants now and I have to use my area well.

I live in the Southern Hemisphere so the season for fruits and veggies are just starting. My tomatoes are little and green, but I have great expectations. Meanwhile, I have eaten lots of kale, some lettuce and some leeks. I am using my hebbs for my dishes too.

You sound like my mom, except she never got that many tomatoes out of a garden. She could eat a LOT of tomatoes!

Green Tomatoes - If you lack vitamin C then go grab and eat tomatoes every day.
Our tomatoes here are not as big as in your country but I they are just as nutritious I believe. We've been picking lots of tomatoes lately so I decided to have them pureed or juiced so I can have them stored in the fridge. I tried juicing green ones yesterday and I really am amazed how great it taste with honey. I love green tomatoes more than red actually because they are crunchier. I'll be making pizza tonight and surely I'll top them with lots of green tomato slices. Hmmmm yummy! We gave away some to our neighbors and I have also processed the red ones, so now I have enough tomato sauce for my daily cooking.

Great photograph of the tomatoes. I have thought about planting green tomatoes, as several people have mentioned their crunchy. A pizza with some crunchy tomatoes sounds great right now. Thanks for posting.

What type of tomatoes do you grow(cherry etc)? I love herbs as it allows me to cook so many fresh dishes with unique tastes and blends. The trouble with herbs is some have a mind of their own such as mint and try and take over your entire garden. Btw, have you ever tried the topsy turvy for growing tomatoes?

I thought about trying the topsy turvy, so we would be able to grow more plants, but haven't tried it yet. I'm growing Early Girls, as have been growing that variety for many years. Several of my neighbors are growing Cherry Tomatoes. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting. Sounds like a good way to use tomatoes, so you will have them for a long time to enjoy for many months. I prefer homegrown, as we get to save money and have a great amount of food to enjoy.

Tomatoes are long gone here, but I managed to can a few to keep me over the winter. Last year, the biggest crop was yellow crookneck squash. It always does well here, but it did exceptionally well last year. There were so many that I couldn't even give it away fast enough. I wound up freezing quite a bit because I can't see wasting good food; now I have to start eating it again!

I can't see wasting food either and my freezer has a lot of tomatoes. I'm sure there will be enough for many months to come and really enjoyed the tomato pizza I had this week with homegrown tomatoes. I'm hoping to find a good deal on a canning pan this winter. Thanks for posting.

I'm a fellow tomato lover, but I didn't plant any this year because the last couple of years they have done so poorly when I planted them. But not to worry because other people in my area had a bumper crop of tomatoes and a lot of them gave me some of theirs. I don't can or pickle, but we had plenty to eat on during the summer. I love the fresh summer tomatoes, but that season is over where I live, and the only thing ones here now are the bland wintertime tomatoes from the grocery store. It is very seldom that I find tomatoes that have good flavor in wintertime.

I won't buy tomatoes during this season at the store. They are bland like you mentioned. I have plenty of tomatoes in my freezer, so just take some out when I want to make a pizza. Thanks for posting.
