This is a rant to do with people who go on youtube and say something is fake. I just saw the most pointless video of a guy who showed us a clip from the famous show Pawn Stars. In said clip he showed the segment wherein Rick uses an app on his phone to help him when deciding whether a watch worked, or perhaps appraising the value I forget which and the segment shown on t.v. shed no light. In any case, the guy is talking about how Pawn Stars is staged. You don't say? Well of course the show is staged! They can't have someone walk in with an item, them talk about it, give them a price and expect everything to be hunky dory every time. People are going to argue, they aren't going to like the price the pawn shop gave them, they may even get angry. IT COULD BE AN ILLEGAL ITEM! I find it really mind boggling as to why people are bashing the show. I love the show. I know that the segments are planned. You read me right, PLANNED not FAKED . I Know that they make a lot of money, it didn't surprise me so much to see all the memorabilla in their shop. The things they show on the show I like to hear about. I like to find out about new and old items, what is reproduced often, how things are faked, everything.. Why is it that people are getting their panties in a bunch when they find out it's faked!! Are these the same people who got mad when they finally realized wrestling wasn't real?

I'm sure Antique Roadshow is the same way. The probably get thousands of people going through there in order to show the 5 or 6 that actually get aired.

I am sure people call the History Channel tell them they have this or that and ask if they can be on the show. I'm sure History Channel finds people to be on the show... it's like well DUH!

I am sure they pick which people and items they put up on the show not fake but planned as you say. ANd you ought to see theline of people going in there on a friday imppossible not to have to wait hours to get in. and people do take things in here to get appraised am sure they do have to find experts on alot of things like they show one part could take a few weeks to peice all together for the show as they wait for the expert to check it all out and yes alot do get mad if its not worth what they think they should get for that item.

I saw a police officer come in via youtube once. I think it was either a very early episode or a clip that just never aired. The way they said it, their computers are linked directly with the police force so that the police force knows what all comes in and if anything sends up a red flag they send in an officer to re-po the item and return it to it's rightful owner, and of course get the bad guy who stupidly pawned it to begin with.

I've seen youtube videos of the lines, I imagine it is extremely long. I wonder if they do it over a few weeks (one transaction as you say) or for those who are going to bring in an item that needs to be appraised if they inform them ahead of time, come in one day, the expert it available that same day and they stage the transaction? I wonder if they have ever filmed and aired something that has later been re-possessed by the police?

Well now that is just ridiculous. It's not your typical reality show that is geared toward drama and entertainment value. It's more informative than anything. Good lord, all these shows are staged. I've heard those that btch that American Idol is staged...oh of course it is. Good grief. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that of all the thousands of people who try to compete, the crazy acts are tossed in there deliberatly for the entertainment value.

Everything that is put on t.v. is staged unless it is a newscast. Even newscasters who interview people take a few minutes to go over everything so it's not exactly just thrown out there for them. People can be ridiculous when they want to be, and the people bashing pawn stars, maybe they need to stick with just watching cartoons lol.

Some people-- I would guess they film Pawn Stars by filming entire business days, and cutting them and re-assembling-- that's the way they do most of the real life shows on TV. That doesn't make it fake at all. Good grief, if they showed every minute, it would be boring as all get out! What about all the people that probably wander in and out of there hoping to get on TV, or hang out outside.. it wouldn't work if it was unedited, in real time. I guess people don't understand how the world really works.

probably so-- I know I like the show however they do it. There are some really cool things that show up.

I think that they do things a little different from that. I'm sure they must film business days but that they have to know what they are getting. People must somehow inform them that they have something nice, they decide the price outside of the shop and then when they get in it's jut "staging" the actual transaction.

Yes there are somethings I wish I had the money to buy, but even if I did they would probably be gone by the time the episode aired.

It's funny you mentioned this: "Are these the same people who got mad when they finally realized wrestling wasn't real?" Because your preceding sentences describing Pawn Stars reminded me a lot about wrestling too even before I got to read the last sentence.

I think the same holds true for all reality TV shows.

Not all, some are worse. I think the pawn stars are asked to say somethings but a-lot of things they can freely express themselves.

LOL, you could not have said it better. So, are these same people upset because Antiques Road Show is also staged? You gotta know it is. Tons of reality type shows are fake, that is, staged, so what! Let us enjoy our shows in peace. We know that this is not how things really go down.

I love this kind of reality t.v.. I'm not so much into the wrestling, or MTV drama type things, I want information, you know? Not to feel as if my brain cells are shrinking because of silly things... History Channel Reality Shows are my thing. I know that they are stated but it doesn't mean they are fake. They have real items, they have real history, they just don't let us see the negotiations beforehand but an edited / calmer version wherein everything is safe for t.v. I, for one, wouldn't want to see a guy get really angry, but to occasionally see him get a little "iffed" that is entertaining. sorry.. long winded.

Oh No! You mean that wrestling isn't real and this show is faked? I never would have guessed I like this show too. In the U.K. I watched all the antique road show series and loved it. I just learnt so much especially with china as I collect blue and white old plates and have them grouped on a wall as a decoration. Actually, I also have them on an antique piece of furniture. Sorry - this happens all the time as I am still experiencing the effects of the anesthetic and so sometimes just cannot remeber the right word. I love your expression, 'panties in a bunch' - we would have said 'knickers in a twist'. Different phrases but same meaning

A hutch? There is another word for it, China Cabinet? There's like two more words for the "antique piece of furniture" but I know what you are talking about. I have a blue patterned plate, it's one of the antique ones that are highly collectible. I want to collect some avon stuff and get my own hutch but am nowhere near able to get that yet, no room even if I had the money. I love to watch the history channel because of all of it's info, I've seen antique road show I think once or twice but I tune in when it's shows like pawn stars, or american pickers, even counting cars and american restorations.

I saw that show filmed once in las vegas... As I was living there. All of those kind of shows are told what to say. Maybe not 100% but they are staged.

Well yeah I know that somethings that are said and the way people are portrayed is faked, but that's a given. The videos I see bashing them on youtube are ridiculous. They are saying things like "you see right there? They KNEW what the price was gonna be and accepted it right away! well DUH to that ya know? Of course a network's gonna say "Hey Rick, look angry in this shot please" or "Hey Chumlee say this stupid thing" but the people on youtube are pointing out how the guy who came in with the item was quick to accept the offer, or like my example pointing out Rick already had info up on his phone, OF COURSE he did. He looked it up before they started filming.
