I had on my debitcard, the last remaining € 5. I decided to pour them into a gambling site and play them in order to be able to "multiply" (poor deluded that I am!). I bet all of five football scores, in case of victory, I would have tripled since the potential payout paid € 15 net. The result was a disappointment 4 results centered, one, unfortunately wrong! Goodbye so even the last 5 €, now absolute zero! However, this was also a lesson in life, now I realize that the answer that I give to gambling is "No thanks!"

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are absolutely right, this was a real eyeopener for u and i must say u have learned it more deeply this time. I think gambling was and would be the most negative way of losing out the money and i consider it as a serious offense as we have no right in spending our precious money this way. Money is very important and we have to take care of it. There are many people who are spending their lives without a penny and we are spending it this way. What say?

Well, after the bad experience I had today, losing the last 5 € left in my debitcard, I came to the conclusion to close permanently with gambling. This though in different circumstances I also won. I repeat: Gambilng? No thank you!

Subhojit10: You can multiply money using your knowledge also in gambling activities. Losing some ammount is just a part of the game. I find it very similar to buy some products in order to sell them again. You have to predict the marketing and you can also lose, if you don't predict well. And even the best will also lose sometimes. Gambling at casinos is, indeed, a thing of luck. But gambling on football scores is also about knowledge. Also like poker. Or stock.

Do you consider renting a movie to be a serious offense? What about going to the Symphony? Eating in a restaurant? All these things have spending money in common. All these things have the potential of being addictive and have the potential for someone to spend needed money on them instead of bills. The problem isn't the activity itself. It's the way the activity is used.

I'm with you. Gambling can be an issue. I have my own set of rules that I apply to gambling. For me, they work. I consider gambling entertainment. So any money that I would spend on gambling must be money that I would set aside to blow on entertainment anyway. I might have 20 bucks set aside for entertainment for the month. I could spend all of it gambling, but then I would be done with spending any money on entertainment for the rest of the month. No more eating out. No more going to the movies. No more renting movies. Nothing. And when I was gambling, when I spent that original $20 by losing, I would be done. I never allow myself the thought that I will earn my keep by gambling. I assume going in that I'll lose - and if I win I'm so happy. But not devastated, or even surprised, if I lose. I don't use winnings from gambling to pay bills. I keep winnings from gambling in a separate account (that is now empty) that I can use for future gambling. When gambling is only seen as a way to spend time and for enjoyment, this isn't a problem. When I want to go gambling and have something in my account, I can spend more time gambling and take less from my entertainment fund. When I do gamble, I will spend the majority - if not all - of my time playing something that isn't strictly luck. I much prefer to play things that involve some amount of skill - like poker. I still will occasionally play the lottery or do a one-armed bandit, but that's a small, small amount of my gambling money. So I don't feel gambling has to be a sin or has to be off the charts for me. I just make sure it stays equivalent in importance to going to the movies and buying stuff at the concession stands. It has to be seen as disposable income.

Well, from what I could understand from your comment, you also rightly blame gambling. Or rather, if you play occasionally without it becoming a real "disease", in which case you can do (though I do not recommend this as well). However, if it becomes part of our life as a "throw away" our hard-earned income, should we take it away! Forever!

Actually I don't blame gambling. I'm aware that gambling (along with many other things as well) has the potential of becoming harmful. Because of the gains which can be attained through gambling and because of the "high" someone can get from gambling, in some ways gambling can be more of a potential problem than something else - say eating at a restaurant. Most people would get the same reeaction from winning. It's an excitement. A thrill. They also now have more money. That causes additional happiness and excitement. Since the majority of people react this way to winning at gambling, gambling is seen as a bigger problem. However, someone who happens to really enjoy food and enjoys being out with people, would have the exact same reactions to eating a wonderfully cooked meal in a restaurant. I don't hear anyone saying eating in a restaurant is a disease. So the problem isn't that this can happen, it's the number of people it tends to happen to. If someone makes a decision to gamble, just like in all other things, it's about moderation. To me, throwing out gambling is like throwing out the baby with the bath water. We need to change the way we think about gambling. We need to change the way we use gambling. We don't need to just throw away gambling.

Gambling in any kind is just disappointment. I never admire no matter who big the money a winner gets. all I can think are the poor losers who ends up with nothing and the family of the person who took chances in gamble. It can be an addiction so Itm glad zou realiye the mistake from the beggining.

Well, think it is a shame that in a city like mine, gambling halls are virtually everywhere. An article in the newspaper once said that especially in the slot, there is the quickest way to lose all their salary immediately!

Gambling it's not that simple, especially at football bets. You have to know a lot of things about football to be able to predict the results, like on the stock, and there are always scores that you can't predict. You will always lose some, and only if you are really good you will earn more than you lose. But in the case you mentioned, I don't think the odds worth. You can make 10$ having 5$ if you play the roulette and the chances are 50-50.

Well, since every football game, it is a story sextant, sometimes can give quite unexpected results, with consequent loss of bet placed. Certainly in the world of better, and in general the world of gambling, there is nothing. Ah yes, I forgot .. there is only the certainty of losing everything!
