It turned iut to be a flop!

I hate it when things don't turn out right. I wasted 5 apples to make it. I made an apple Brown Betty without a recipe. I should have googled it but I didn't. My dad could make it from his head, but I guess I didn't pay close enough attention to get it right. It turned out like sweet glue. I ended up tossing the whole thing out. Next time I will google the recipe before I try again. Cooking and baking is a great relaxer for me, but I do get disappointed when I have a failed attempt at making something good. Your thoughts?

Did you taste it? Looks is not everything you know. It may have surprised you in that the tastes were all ok even if it did not look pretty. I have seen this many times and if one is careful they can make it look good on individual servings when the whole does not. I would never throw out food no matter how it looked. The nutrition is still there. Just dress it up to look like something else.

Could not something be added that would make it more eatable? I have had things that did not come out as I had hoped but with some added spice or fruit it was made very tasty. As to the glue taste then I guess there is not much that can help that. Have a happy day.

I've never heard of a Brown Betty before - is it like Apple Crisp?. I always check online before making something because of this reason. I have a few times, had to throw things out from following my Mother's off the head recipes.

I have had some flops myself, when I do not take the time to look up a recipe. I guess there was no way to salvage your dessert?

No there was no way to salvage it. It was too sweet and awful gummy like glue.

you got Bev for recipes she knows everything about cooking, I go to her for advise. My cupcakes didn't turn out right and she told me what I did wrong.

You could have spread it on toast.

Maybe if I still had my food processor and some cream cheese to cut the funniness of it, I could have. Believe me, it was stickier than crazy glue. Awful.

I think that I would have tried to salvage it. Quite often, things can be turned around when it comes to cooking "disasters." I'm not much for following recipes. I may take a look at one to get a rough idea in terms of measurements on certain ingredients but, then, I take off in my own direction with things. I find that I generally do far better when I don't bother following the recipe and simply add in things as they strike my fancy.

I would have salvaged it if I could have, but it was beyond saving. I have a recipe now and will use it to make one.

I'm always googling recipes lately. I'm sorry your brown betty turned out bad and you wasted all those apples. Better luck next time.

They were Rome apples and to me, they are no good to eat cause they are always soft and never crispy. I never buy Romes but SIL thought they were pretty and bought them. I'll make some apple sauce out if the rest if them. They are good for cooking but I hate to eat them.

Awwwwww, you couldn't save it no way? That's so sad because it sure sounds good...except for the glue part, lol! I can't do stuff like that without a recipe. I'm really a bad baker and I can follow a recipe completely and it just won't come out right. How my kids ended up being good cooks and bakers I'll never know. As far as baking it's easier for me to get a box and mix it up..comes out fine, lol!

It was way too sweet with brown sugar and gummy. I could hang wall paper with it, cuz it was so thick. Next time I will use a recipe.

Hi PQ, it is always better to get in hold of the recipe before we want to try out any new recipe. Things are getting expensive, so i don't dare to try any new recipe without the proper recipe in hand. Hope the ingredients that you used in making that Brown Betty, isn't very expensive. Will you be trying another time to make that recipe again? Hope you will manage it with success this time.

Don't take it badly. We learn from our mistakes. Maybe next time, you can have the best dish as you will not do what you have done that made your cooking a flop.
