In Laos we visited Vientiane and Luang Prabang. Vientiane is the capital of Laos, but it is a very small capital and it doesn't really feel like a capital. We stayed in a budget hotel and the room was okay, but the staff didn't speak much English and it was a little difficult for us to communicate with them as we don't speak the local language. The most famous sight in Vientiane is the golden stupa called That Luang. It was very beautiful and I enjoyed visiting it. We also visited two of the famous temples in Vientiane. One of them was not that interesting, but the other one was beautiful. In the area around Vientiane there is another sight called the Buddha park and it is full of sculptures. We hired a tuk-tuk driver and asked him to drive us there and wait for us while we walked around in the park. The park is called the Buddha park but it is actually a mixture of Buddhist sculptures and Hindi sculptures. It was very interesting to visit the park. We spent 4 days in Luang Prabang and I really liked the place. I found Luang Prabang more interesting and charming than the capital of Laos. The first day we visited the Phousi hill. It took us a while to climb the hill, but it was worth it and I enjoyed seeing the temple on top of the hill. The next stop was the most famous temple in Luang Prabang called Wat Xieng Thong, and it was very beautiful and interesting. One afternoon we bought a cruise on the Mekong river and I enjoyed that very much. We didn't see many buildings, but the area around the river was beautiful. One day we decided to buy a tour to an elephant camp close to Luang Prabang. Our group consisted of 11 tourists (4 Australians, 4 Americans, a woman from Taiwan and my husband and me.) There were several elephants in the camp and we all got the chance to ride an elephant for one hour. I enjoyed it very much. Have you been Vientiane or Luang Prabang in Laos? Which places did you visit? Did you ever ride an elephant or would you like to?

I really enjoyed reading about your trip to Laos. I have seen some temples in Malaysia. I had a ride on a camel when I was in Kenya. I would love to ride an elephant. It was superb that you found a budget place to stay in Vientiane. However you seemed to have a language barrier there. The cruise on the Mekong River must have been delightful. It sounds like you had a mixture of adventure and relaxation. I am glad that you had such a wonderful time in Laos.

I really, really liked Laos. I didn't know much about the country before we went there, and I didn't really know what to expect, but I found the country beautiful and charming and I would like to visit it again. The place that we stayed in Vientiane was very cheap, but we did experience some language problems there and it was hard to communicate with the receptionists and the waiters. The waiters didn't give us the food that we had ordered, but I think that they didn't speak much English and they found it hard to understand what we said. I wish that we had been able to talk to them in the local language, but we only knew a few of the common words and greetings and that didn't help much. The cruise on the Mekong River was great. I enjoyed it a lot. It was very peaceful and the view from the boat was beautiful. The elephant ride was a really interesting experience and I am so happy that we had the chance to try that. It must also have been interesting to ride a camel in Kenya. I would like to ride a camel in the future, that is one of things on the list of things that I would like to try.

Hello Porcospino. I am glad to know that you enjoyed yourself in Laos. I am interested in reading your description about those beautiful landscapes in and around the capital city. I read about Vientian from one of the passages in our teaching textbook, in which a lot is mentioned about the Mekong River. If possible, I would like to visit the country with my family some day. Have a good day.

I think that Laos is an interesting place to visit and I hope that you will get the chance to visit the country with your family one day. Before I visited Laos I didn't really know much about the country, but I must say that both Vientiane and Luang Prabang surpriced me in a positive way, and Laos was one of the places that I liked the most. There are some beautiful places to visit in Vientiane for instanse the golden stupa. In Luang Prabang we lived close to the Mekong River, and I liked the area around the river a lot. I would like to return to Laos in the future.
