There are advertisements on the television, radio, internet, newspapers, magazines and billboards including on the sides of buses for people to take public transportation to work. However,I have been applying for jobs recently and have been asked,"What if it rains, how will you get to work?"....Duh!!!!!!.......an umbrella! I have also seen help wanted ads and the place of business is right on the bus line and thehours for the position are during bus route hours but they say, that you MUST have a car! Both,me and my daughter got part timr jobs(mine is temporary) a few blocks away and yesterday my boss said to me,"I just wonder, how your going to get to work if it rains?" What are these people thinking! The job's usually don't even pay enough to compensate with the high price of gas. How do you get to work?

It's really amazing that people could sometimes ask dumb questions. It's as if they're living on another planet or something. I take my car to work actually. It's more convenient for me. Sometimes I work long hours at night and finding public transportation isn't easy.

There are people at my job who walk, it is only three miles to go clear across my town. On the other hand, I usually get off around midnight and I do not want to walk three miles in the dark.

It sounds as if your boss has had some employees who really did not want to work. I am glad you and your daughter have jobs, even if yours is only temporary, the money is real and is needed. I have had situations where I walked to work, in snow or rain. The jobs that say you MUST have a car may require you to do errands or something. Keep trying, the temporary job will at least be something you can put on your work history.

Hi Gearden Gerty,She has one woman that works there, the one that I am subbing for.She is older and doesn't want to really work. But she only lives 1 block from the work place. The other person is a high school seinor that has a car and was scheduled to work for 3 hours after school two afternoons a week. She sometimes comes late or sometimes doesn't even show up and never calls. My daughter replaced her for one day and then they asked her if she wanted to quit working because if she did then my daughter could replace her for that as well, but she didn't want to quit.

So if the older woman quits, you will have a job. I am sure they will keep your daughter in mind for when this teen aged person does quit.

Hi Garden Gerty,Yes,if she quits I will have a job. But,not a very good one.The work is not too hard, but it does not pay very much($7 asn hour),only 15 hours a week and they only pay monthly and not on time either.

As for me,have a car is my dream but I can not afford a car totally,so usually I get to subway to work,it is very crowded but I have no choice. But regarding to your situation, you future boss is very interesting,I had never heard such questions before, because in my mind, get to work on time is the obligation of employees, and boss do not need to care about how they can get to work.
