My pastor asked me the other day if I use the ipad in Church

And I had to say no. You see, I have people explain, "Oo you have an ipad! (translation, you are extremely wealthy,)so I am reluctant in taking it out of my large purse that also contains my regular bible. It would be easier just to slip the ipad in the purse and would have plenty of room for the fliers and church announcements. And since it has all my music, it would be easier to bring it along when the next Christmas gettogether comes along rather then take along a cd player, and a whole bunch of cds since I might be taking along some cookies or a cake. But what I am concern about is that when someone gives everyone that you are wealthy, you feel less like taking it along. I suppose if I got a cheap Windows notebook and had all my music on it, no one would bother, would they?

Why would people think that because you have an iPad that you are wealthy? A cheap windows computer would cost about the same price. Use your iPad if you want to If people want to think you have money, let them. That is none of their business anyway.

There are some that think that I should have used the money for something else, but then again that would not be right. And there are those who put things on credit card and pay so much a month on it, but they forget that I am not that type.

I think you worry much too much about what others may think or say! In all honesty, if I see someone with an iPad I don't assume they're wealthy; actually, since I don't personally know many extremely wealthy people I generally assume that if someone has an iPad they probably "sacrificed something else in order to get it or maybe got it as a Christmas or birthday gift and didn't get much else. Basically I feel if they're that jealous or snarky about it who CARES what they think! Annie

I used to worry what would others think, because that is how I was taught. My parents and later my unofficial foster mother would ask, "A-what would people think if you went there or did that?" Then of course I got to the I do not care, but then that led to me not being able to discern when i should not have done that or that. I do see people looking up Bible verses in a different Bible then the one used. But then they go back to the regular pew Bible or the one in their bible bag. I think that those who have iPads, are careful not to bring them out because of what others may think. I think someone has to stop that process. I did use the iPad at the Christmas party to play the music, but that was a different thing.

We have psalm books and bibles, and there are for visitors, but I find in the case of bibles, the print is too small. I do look through my. iPhone if they used a different version of the Bible. I would like yo used my iPad more and probably wild. I remember one time when I forgot my bi le it is a large print, do I used the pew bible and it was hard to read.

I have a confession to make - I haven't been to a church service for quite some time and when I did attend church regularly, well before iPads and the like existed, I don't recall anyone taking anything of their own to church as far as Bibles or music aids. There were hymnals provided on the backs of the pews and we were simply told what page to turn to. Anyway, from what I've come to know of you, you're a good Christian woman who has a strong senses of what's right and wrong so I really wouldn't worry what others think about things like whether or not you have an iPad or use it in church. Obviously that's your choice so please don't get angry at me, I'm on YOUR side! Annie

Hello suspenseful. Haven't seen you around for a while. Hope it's because i wasn't on at the right time and every thing is ok with you. Look how and what you spend your money or funds on is between you and God. I know that it can bother you if other church member might be criticizing you for having something they might not have. If God allowed you to get yourself an ipad then he intended for you to use it. If you are using it in church to glorify him you should not let what others think influence your using it. Use it with pleasure.

I think a lot of people are not into tech and there lies the problem. And there are those who are tempted by the wrong thing, unlike me who is more tempted to eat too many sweets and cheese.

Still suspenseful I don't think that you need to have any of them influance your use or the need for the ipad. If it helps you use it. every thing can be for good or for evil you have to decide which you will use it for and from reading almost all your discussions I see you using it only for good.

I have to remember to use the keyboard I bought for it. It takes a while to answer posts from my my lot mail typing with one finger. I got some iTunes cards for Christmas and finally have the iWork's on my regular computer, iPad, and iPhone, and things are easier now. And since they might use the ESV version of the Bible in church, it would be cheaper in the long run then going and ordering a Bible that would cost about forty or so dollars (I seem to go for leather bound when buying Bibles ir I did not get them from my parents or someone else). I do think when someone says you use the iPad for evil, they have a low opinion and I think that when someone says you bought one to play just games, they think you are empty headed, Note about the temptation -make myself a note to be careful when getting recipe apps.

It is just a couple of people, and it still hurts. I have told them that I saved up for it and also that the income tax took most of the money, I saved to fix up the basement. I do not want to sacrifice the iPad for the basement, because they are two different things.

There is only a few that I know of like that, and the trouble is they may not say it, that you are a big spender if you have an ipad or you are made of money, but they make suggestions that they should have before like donating to a cause, etc. I feel if I had to donate to cause or was given a suggestion to put more money into the church, it should have been made before I made a purchase as well if I had to fix up my house, or do some improvement to the house, it should not be made because now you bought an ipad you can afford it. Timing is everything.

We actually use our iPads and cell phones in church ... would you believe. Hardly anybody brings their Bibles anymore since it's on phones and iPads. We have our own church app that allows us to prepare for the sermon. Our pastor puts the outline of his sermon on the app. It's quite amazing really. I don't think you should worry whether people think you're rich or not. It's none of their business anyhow. If you have an iPad or anything else, use it. I'm also thinking people really don't mind.

Amazing isn't it? Ah yes, Techonology. I still bring my Bible though. Guess, I'm old fashioned now. I also don't trust my phone. It's loud ... even the vibrate is loud.

My younger son keeps sending my photos of the babies (they are in the NCIU in the hospital because they are premature)and luckily it is not at church time. I do have my Bible and the church bible is NIV, but I have the NASB, but sometimes the reverend will quote from the ESV. My vibrations are loud, but not as loud as my ringtone. I had it loud on purpose. Most of the time it is the reminders, but I have them at a soft tingle so they do not bother anyone.

Almost all the young people and some of the older ones have smartphones. So all the near-sighted people can use the cellphones to read the Bible, and the ones like me who are far-sighted can use their ipads. And with the ESV bible being free on most ipads it would not cost that much.

I am not rich. I think that those who think that people who buy iPhones or iPads are rich are empty headed. Their mouths work, but their skulls are empty of any brain matter.

Is your pastor wanting you to use your IPad in church? If that is something you want to do you should not be uncomfortable. The same people who view it as a status symbol would actually view any electronic device as a sign of wealth. We know that you gave up stuff and saved to be able to enjoy your I Pad, you should be able to use it.

He does not think there is anything wrong with it, and when he preaches a sermon, he often uses another version of the Bible rather then the official one and I know that many of the congregation cannot carry two or three versions of the Bible around because that might mean bringing in a large suitcase. I do know when we have a Bible study, there are some there who bring a large bag with the bible, plus the commentaries, etc. It is those who think that having an ipad means you are wealthy and let you know about it. But to me, it is just normal. I will have to get up some nerve to use it.

You are so overthinking in my opinion. You think you got a ipad, so you are weathy or others would think this way? So funny

Actually you got that wrong. I do not think I am wealthy, but since I got my ipad, I have gotten suggestions on how to spend my money. So naturally I got that assumption. Oh and worse, it is a toy.
