Trying to start a business on the side

I had a friend who I met online, who I haven't actually met. She is a big help, and she is my first customer. She told me I should start something with making animal treats, and critter baskets. So I looked into it, and am trying to get it up and running on the side. I ordered my dog bone shaped cookie cutters (3 different sizes for $5.99 off ebay), and I am still trying o find a cat one that is small enough. She gave me some ideas for making cat toys as well, and even showed me with pictures how to do them.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well that is great to hear about your friend who was your first customer and i know u must be excited to your first customer. I think u should try working on the ideas given by her as it is always better to go along with the demands of the public and what they generally like. I think it is really fortunate to have a friend like her who can give u amazing tips that will help your business to grow. Besides u can search online for ideas and i am sure u will get many of them. What say?

If you are able to find something that you really enjoy, then you are more likely to be successful than if you are starting a business and just going through the motions because you are able to make decent money from the business that you've started. I know that there are a few different doggy bakeries around here and they seem to be doing really well, so I don't see why you won't have anything but success with the new business that you are starting.

You also going to sell treats (in small baskets)and soft toys to doggy-parlors for them to re-sell? That might be another way to do it?

Amazon had a cute set of cat shaped cookie cutters. I am not sure how big they were because I did not check the details, but there were four in the box.

that is really exciting! where will you be able to sell them? could you sell them at the store where you work? marketing and sales are huge parts of having a business like that. you could also try etsy and ebay as well. why not? it never hurts to try because if you don't at least try, you will never know. best of luck!

A friend of mine used to make them for her animals and then she started making and selling them locally as well. I think that a gift basket of them would sell well especially around the holidays. I hope that you are able to make some extra money off this idea.

That's cool, I know some friends that make their own dog treats but not sure exactly how they do it. That could be a really good business, I hope you do well on it, good luck.

If you will have to start a business, it must be really that of your interest. This way, you could apply different strategies because you know about it. Although I don't know much about pets I can say that having a business of this line with be good for you. Good luck my friend!
