Waking up early - is it better?

There are a lot of people who think that waking up early in the morning, at 6 - 7 am everyday gives you a better daily routine. You go further in life with discipline, even in your sleep habits. Do you agree with this? Of course, most of us have to wake up early to go to work. But I am talking about a personal commitment in this directions. Does it have any sense? Have you ever felt that the sleep is better when you go to bed earlier? Some say that some hours are more restful than others. I am personally in a big dilema. I like my habit of going late to sleep and waking up also late. Night is a great time to do a lot of things (I'm not referring to clubbing or related activities). I like to watch movies and read and write. I'm a student, so my goal is to increase my knowledge how much I can till the end of my college. So I don't find these activities as entartainment, but as things from a "to do list". But I also concentrate very well early in the morning, if I manage to wake up. And there are also other advantages, like more time with open places in the town. So, the best option for me would be to wake up early, sleep in the afternoon for some hours and going to bed late. I just can't wake up if I didn't sleep enough. Well, my dilema is not necessary the point. :P I'm just curious... does it worth being a matinal person? Have anyone did this change by purpose? Why? How? How was it after all?

I can understand where you're coming from. Some people really do say that waking up early is great. And I only realized whats their meaning recently. However, it does not involve me waking up at 5:30 in the morning everyday. No. Like you, I like working at nights. I sleep late and wake up late. And I still do. Had it not been for school, I would rather stay in bed until 10:00 a.m. (right now I paused from schooling by the way.) People who wake up early or is awake in the early hours of the morning get to see the sunrise. Seeing such a mundane thing gives one a relaxing feeling that just makes your day. That is to say, you'd feel thankful that you've seen another beautiful day come into your life. In my case, I would like to share that the sunrise was one of the things that saved my life when I was bedridden with illness and was in great pain. So more than a habit or discipline of waking up early, I can tell you that waking up early--seeing the sunrise, has a good effect on one's psychology.

It's an interesting idea, to improve your life by actually seeing that a new day begins. I'm happy it worked for you. Even if I don't think this will make me... different in some way. I also saw the sunrise a few times, but always because I went to bed too late, sleeping after the light came out. :P I will certainly experiment the other way, now you say can be so great.

lolz. That's what I am doing--right now--I get to see the sunrise only because I don't sleep the night. I sleep around 8-9 a.m. then wake up in the evening. It's bad for my health since I need vitamin D (I'm night blind) but I still go at it. I'm a bad patient. Believe me when I say that my viewpoint only changed that time when I thought I was really dying and sat in front of the window and saw the transition of colors of the sky between night and day. I couldn't explain it well to my self as well only that it was breathtaking enough that I was content to die there. But that didn't happen because my mom dragged me a few hours later to see the doctor that cured me.

I think it all depends on what you do. There are people who need to wake up early as they have to work early. Naturally they have to sleep early to compensate. There are also those that work late at night or work on graveyard shift and will have to be sleeping in daytime. I am lucky to work in the standard time, usually 8:30 am and so there is no need to wake up early. Generally it is just a matter of adjusting what is best for you. What is important is that the body should have the right amount of rest.

To be at work at 8,30 am would be a nightmare for me :) Soo early in my opinion. But, of course, if I would have to do it daily, I would change my sleeping routine to fit my work programme. In highschool, where I should arrive at 8am, I was kind of moody because of that. And I had years to get used to it. :P

Hello spicymary. Now it is winter time and I tend to sleep earlier compared with the other seasons because it is much colder. I feel very comfortable snuggling in the warm blanket. But I usually do some mobile phone reading before I feel tired and fall asleep. I think that to sleep earlier is better than to sleep later for me because whenever I go to sleep, I always wake up earlier. This is a habit delveloped due to my going to work early in the morning. Thanks for the discussion and stay warm.

One of my jobs requires me to work all night, so 6 - 7 AM frequently is my bedtime. If I wake up at 12 noon, than that is early to me. I know... I know... the whole thing about a person's inner clock can be thrown off by working graveyard shifts, etc. Thankfully, I don't have that problem. I can sleep anytime, anywhere, with noooo problem. And I do find that the middle of the night can be a optimal time to get things done -- like shopping at 24 hr. stores. The rest of the world is asleep -- no traffic, no lines, no crowds. I think that being on a 'different schedule' than everyone else sometimes works out pretty nice. I believe it's the quality of sleep, not necessarily when sleep occurs that is important.

Yeah, different shedule can be a great thing. I know this by experience. And I especially feel it when I use the subway. It's incredible crowdy when people go to work or come back home. If I organise myself to avoid those hours, I can take more advantage of my time, instead of being irritated, I can peacefully sit and read a few pages.

Each person is different and each person's schedule is different. I would just plan your sleep pattern around your classroom time and study time and don't worry about the 'ideal' because there is not such thing. When do you go to school? How many hours? What about work? Some students work as well as attend school. Just tune into your schedule and whatever hours work out to be best to you.

Mostly I can do my schedule as I want. But I am interested in taking the most advatage possible of my time. I know I will not ever have this opportunity. But you are right, it's different from one to another. I should try all the options and than decide, maybe. :)

Hi, spicymary: Question of the origin is a matter of organization, a lot of people affect the time they spend in their work on the duration of sleep who must adhere to in order to give their bodies adequacy of comfort. But experience shows that sleep early and wake up early, have a major impact on the productivity of the individual.

To me, waking up early is good, especially doing the house chores. But, of course, for going to work, had no choice, got to wake up early for most people. For house chores, like washing clothes, I wake up early in the morning like 6 or 7 am. I can start washing and then hang them up. Then, they are partial dried. After that, the sun will comes up. The clothes then all dried. Then, the rest of the day, I can focus on something else. My point here is that if you start your chores earlier, and finish it earlier, it will be very good. Then, later in the day, you can do other things.

There is a saying, "the early bird catches the worms." It is really good to wake up early and do the daily grinds. However, it depends on the person's schedule. Some people sleep late at night because they work at night and sleep in the morning. Have a nice day!

For 20 years, I woke between 5 and 6 every morning. Every once in a while I would actually get to sleep in til 7 or 8. But I always knew it wasn't really for me. Even with this schedule, I had to force myself to go to bed by 10 every night. It was never comfortable for me. Now, I have an evening job. I'm MyLotting at 1AM. And I don't start work until 3PM tomorrow. I'm extremely happy. I too find the middle of the night to be the most productive time for me. I never could get myself motivated to work well until the afternoon. I firmly believe we all have optimum times, and it's not the same for everyone. If you can arrange it around your schedule, make your sleeping schedule consistent, but make it work for you.

I personally feel it will vary and depend from person to person. you might be a nocturnal person or a early riser. In both the cases if the things are going right with you and as long as you are being benefited by it; it is fine. But it is usually observed that a thing learnt in morning is faster understood and finished faster than what is done at night may be because of the fact that at night one has all the tensions and stress one has faced through out the day whereas after a sleep there is a relaxed brain and the body favors learning.

wake up early has innumerable benifits. If you wake up 2 hours early you will get some extra time for other activity.Morning is a great time to work ,since they tend to be quiet and uninterrupted.Waking early allow you to devote yourself in religious activity. Finally waking early means that early appoinments are easier to meet and will be more productive. This is a difficult habit to start for those who are waking late.

Personally speaking i hate waking up early in the morning specially in winters. I feel that when you wake up early at around 6 in the morning you feel sleepy again in the afternoon. I prefer waking up arond 11 am which also suites my routine now a days. No doubt according to Science waking up early is good for health but i really dont care. I sleep late at night so it is obvious that i will wake up late in the morning.
