Extreme CheapScape

I was watching a show on TLC tonight that I have never seen before about extreme cheapscapes. It was rather alarming to find out what some people do to not have to spend money. One guy didn't want to take his wife on a date really until she finally badgered him to and then when she wanted a snack, he finally went and got a used cup out of the trash and a popcorn box in there too, washed the cup out in the bathroom and then got a clerk there to refill both cause their policy was free refills. They didn't even check that he wasn't the one who bought anything in the first place or know it. I find it to be disgusting though taking stuff out of the trash even if it is just the container. Another guy washed clothes and even things like toothbrushes in his dish washer, didn't use toilet paper bu a spray thing for the toilet to wash yourself off with. He also got his water from the creek nearby and had no air conditioning ever. His clothes were mismatched and he used cornstarch all over his body to keep cool, haha. Then there was a Chinese woman an another show after that whom I have seen on the Internet too who washed her clothes in the tub while taking a bath, ate food from the dumpster and hasn't bought any new clothes in 9+ years. She still had holey T-shirts from when she was a kid. Many other things to but these are some of the things that stick out in my mind right now. Do you do anything that might make people think you are a cheap scape? Have you seen this show? I was captivated by it, LOL.

You mean cheapskate.
Yeah, I prefer to think of it as being frugal. I don't like to waste money, but I think some of the examples you give are taking it too far. lol

Yes thanks for the spelling lesson, I wasn't sure how it was spelled. I used to be a better speller, my family still comes to me with spelling so called "big" words at times.
Anyways frugal can be the right term but they are extreme at it. I hate to waste money too, I have worn clothes for 20+ years, had the same pair of glasses once for 20 years, and even cut m own hair. I just couldn't do some of the things they do though. Maybe if I had to but dumpster diving, some restaurants won't even let you do that--I would feel like I was getting rottening food.

Hope I didn't upset you with the correction!
Your spelling is normally pretty good and I know you Americans like to spell things in your own way, so I wasn't sure if it was indeed ME who got it wrong?
Obsession takes many forms and I can sort of relate to a money saving obsession. Never seen that programme over here in the UK, but we do have similar with people who go to, what we 'normal' people, would consider extreme.

I actually saw a little bit of that show and episode, it sounds like. I can dig saving money and living frugally, but food out of the dumpster would be a bit extreme to me!
I think they are very smart in some ways, but seem to be way extreme, or what they call obsessive. That could be the opposite of the show "hoarders"!

She took foods like chicken and turkey out of the dumpster. I thought food like that should be refrigerated after staying out. She smelled it and said it still smelled OK, so she cooked it. I think her guests whom she served it to still thought it didn't taste fresh, the girl headed to the bathroom after she told her it was from out of the dumpster. I wonder if these people actually do work and where. I mean if they actually have more money to spend and who would hire them dressed in such old holey clothes, etc. I have heard some employers really look at your hair and even nails i order to hire you if you're female especially. Even female employers.

I tend to ignore "use by " dates on food because I hate to throw out stuff that is still good. I'm still alive so I guess it's OK to do that. I hate waste. I wear old clothes around the house and even though I have lovely new clothes, I won't throw out the old for the sake of show. If it's not too shabby I will send stuff to goodwill stores and there was a time when a lot of my clothes came from thrift stores.
While I don't like to waste food I would never take something from a bin that someone had thrown out.

I guess I am classified as one of them, I have never seen this show. I will admit I am not as bad as them. But I dont have AC nor will I, its a waste of money. I wash my toothbrush in the dishwasher as well (I have since I was a kid). I wear old holey clothes that I have had for 5 - 10 years (I actually thought about it and one sweater I bought when I was 15 and I am now almost 25). I wouldnt go as far as picking things out of the trash, I would reuse and recycle. I am too cheap to go out, I havent really been out in a few years.
