Dehydrated

Last night I had a difficult time going to sleep. I was so thirsty...after 4 glasses of water, I thought that my thirst was impossible to satisfy! Today I am trying to drink water throughout the day and limit my coffee (so sad!) I only seem to have this uncomfortable thirst at night. Do you ever have this problem?

Caffeine will dehydrate you-and that can cause a host of other problems. You can still drink coffee, but try to drink eight glasses of water, milk or juice each day and stop drinking coffee after a certain time. I used to have that problem when I was drinking Pepsi every day; I have since cut out nearly all soda from my diet and it seems to be helping.

In the winter when we are running our heating systems the air is dryer as well.

That is true too. I am pretty sure I'm prediabetic, and I'm finding that I am thirst constantly. But when we had a bottle of soda, it seemed that I wasn't getting any relief from my thirst like before either.

I'm not a huge soda fan, but I really love coffee. I guess I need to cut down my intake and drink more water and juice. During the holidays, I have been eating way too many sweets, simply because most people are offering that! I need to make sure I am eating more nutritious food as well. Some heaters really do dry out the air, you're right. Have you ever added some kind of humidifier?

Lately I'm having this problem as well occasionally. Whenever I get thirsty in the middle of the night, I'm often too lazy to get out of bed to get myself a drink so by dawn or early morning I feel so weak and so parched. Sometimes I would remember to leave a glass of water on my bedside table and that usually fixes it.

do get tested for diabertes as there are many many people who do not even know they have it and the test is simple and painless. if its r led out you can be really happy and if you do h ave it it must be taken care of by your doctor immediately. Diabetes is not a killer anymore but you must get medical help and learn how to control your blood sugar.

I usually leave a glass, but this time I finished the glass, refilled it, finished it (total of 4 times) and was still thirsty! It was so strange!

I am always thirsty, the GP calls it Psychogeric drinking, I have a constant thirst which is difficult to quench, but that is mainly due to my medication that I am on, have you started any new medication which might be causing your sudden thirst? Sometimes it's your body's way of telling you that something is up, keep an eye on it my friend, keep a record, if the problem gets worse, it might be a good idea to get it checked out, just in case, at least to put your mind at rest, or it might be just a bug, or the weather.

Hmm I have never heard of that. I took some strong pain pills this week because of an oral operation I had last week, and I also took a high dosage of antibiotics. If it continues, I will look into it. Thanks for your advice. I'm sorry that you experience this frequently--it is very uncomfortable!

It seems to be worse at night, in the winter. Partly because if it is cold we do not remember to drink, and partly we mouth breath when we go to bed or we gut so bundled up we sweat off the fluids we have consumed during the day.

That's true...in the cold weather I don't like drinking water. I like drinking something hot--which is usually coffee first! I will try drinking more water throughout the day--especially in the morning. Thanks for your advice!

I don't need to drink at night time, but then I do drink loads during the day. Hope increasing your drinking helps, have you looked at the food you have been eating? Salty and sweet foods too late at night can make you very thirsty. Hope you sleep well tonight my dear fellow mylotter

Hmm...I have been eating unhealthy food lately--fried samosas, holiday cookies, etc. I will try eating more fruits and veggies today. Thanks for the advice!

Since it is winter, the air is very dry. That could have something to do with it. That is if you live in an cold area. I find there is something in bottled water, that makes you thirsty. I'm sure they put something in it, so you stay addicted. I find bottled water makes me feel sluggish. I hate the taste of tap water, my stomach doesn't like the chlorine. I try to drink only real pure spring water. I know of a clean and pure spring in my area. Its a good 10 min walk, from where parking is. It's a lot of work carrying the jugs. But it is so worth while. The water has a unique taste to it. You can taste just how pure it is. Since its a highly acidic spring. It has more hydrogen, which means it hydrates you better. Anywhere I travel I look spring to try. There is a website that, lists all the springs in the world. It tell you if the spring is safe to drink for not. I highly do recommended spring water. It is like putting high test gas, in your viechle. Spring water has natural vitamins and, minerals that we cant see. You will feel more energetic drinking it

hi habibti have you been tested for diabetes lately as being horribly thirty is one of the symptoms of diabetes?. Do get tested and if you are not, well thats just good to know.YOU see if you have too much sugar in your blood your body will get very thirsty as sugar dehydrates it so badly. Just think about it and do get tested and do drink enough wa t er during the day. at.

I get like this quite often because I don't drink enough water during the day. I'm more of a soda drinker and I am trying to cut back on that as well as it's not good for you. Your body is telling you that it needs water so that's why your thirsting it. I know this too because I start getting light headed and dizzy if I don't drink enough water.

The normal cause for what you are experiencing would be certain oral medications, a diet that was heavily doused with taste enhancers like MSG or environment like summer heat or cold winters. There would be no concern for worry here. However, if none of the above are causing your problem, then you will need to consult a doctor for some underlying dormant medical conditions like diabetes, stress, renal or hormone problems. In this area, you should not try to guess or second guess anyone because there's no prize for the right answer but proper medical treatments. Merry Christmas and wish you the best of health here.

I get thirsty at night, although it more of a dry mouth and throat and I think it is because the air is dry here. When I lived in England I did not have this problem. Coffee would keep you awake, but to be kept awake by thirst is new to me. If the problem does not go away after you have ensured that you drink plenty of water, then you should visit the doctor and find out if there is some other reason for this.

If it did not happen to you often, just take it easy. But I heard that people is on alert sometimes,it will easy for them to feel thirsty. But we'd better not drink too much water before going to bed,or it would cause the edema of eyelid.lol. Take good care of yourself,I think may be the weather there is too dry.

I think you really got dehydrated. The symptoms you have mentioned are really because of dehydration.Try to avoid tea and coffee as both are diuretics in nature and drain out water from your body.Persistent dehydration is not good as it is likely to cause calculus disease (stone).Yellowing of urine is a very common symptom of dehydration.Everyday take more than 4L of water.
