My Good friend in Manitoba sent me a surprise Christmas basket. However, since I didn't know I was not waiting on the postwoman. She rang the doorbell but there was no answer.
She left the card and I have to get my aunt to go pick it up for me because the post office is too far from me.
My groceries for the month have to wait too because my aunt get move the car. There has been a big snow storm here and my aunt will lose her spot which is prepared by shoveling for three and a half hours if she moves the car.
So it might take a week for all of it to be done. I hope not because I don't want the parcel to go back.

There isn't anyone else who can go pick it up? And the bus or taxi isn't an option?
I couldn't manage without a car. My boyfriend has said things about not having one if and when we move out of the U.S., but I have made it clear on where I stand on that idea.

Here you can call and explain the situation and they will redelivery in most cases. Hope you get it alright and it isn't sent back. That would be a bummer. Nice of your friend to send it to you. Sounds like quite a situation with your Aunt's car.

I still have time left before they will send it back and my aunt should be able to get her car out of the parking spot by then, if not I will call after I get my final notice and see what can be done.

You are lucky that the post office atleast attempts to deliver packages to your house. Here at my apartment in Ontaio they just leave a note, and don't even make an attempt. If they'd ring the buzzer, they'd get an answer, because one of us is always home. 9 times out of 10 we get one of those damned notices that they don't even try, or a final attempt when no previous notices were received.

we got some of that storm here but you folks got hit way worse than us. hopefully you will be able to get both your package and your groceries soon. i don't think they will send it back right away. they probably hold it for a few weeks and in light of the holidays and the storm, maybe a little bit longer.

I can't ask them to extend the time until I get the final notice, I just got the first notice but my aunt will probably be able to use her car soon.

Hi winterose! Living in snow land is something I have never experienced. I complain about how cold it is here . . . grayness of the skies and a little bit of sogginess from some rain is all . . . that's nothing compared to the big chill and inconveniences of living in snow. We go on our one day drives to go see the snow . . . we play for a few hours, perhaps eventually freeze our toes off . . . we have our fun and then drive home to thaw. I can't imagine being snowed in, having to shovel snow off the car and sidewalks, and dealing with all the other work that comes with living in snow.
ANYWAY
As others have said, maybe the post office can work with you - either for a delivery or at least to have the parcel be put on hold? And is it possible for a grocery delivery service from the store too? See, I have no clue how things are managed during a snow storm. I hope it all works out somehow . . . stay warm til then!!! Happy belated holidays to you too, winterose!!

we are not in the prairies we are in Montreal. I never go out so it doesn't matter for me. My aunt doesn't want to lose her parking spot. But people are getting around as they must. The storm is over.

That's the part I dislike the most about snow, traveling. I just had people over for dinner (a delayed Christmas gathering) and we just had our third winter storm of the season this morning, bringing us another 4 or 5 inches. A few days ago, we got 4 inches of sleet along with a few inches of snow so our driveway and private road were still partially ice covered with a fresh layer of snow. The people who came all have cars without 4-wheel drive so they had trouble. My son couldn't even get up our driveway (which does have a fairly steep hill) so he had to park down by our pavilion and walk back to the house. (He's young and strong so it's not a big deal to him.)
I don't venture out much when we get snow. I do have 4-wheel-drive so I am able to get out when I need to, at least if we haven't had freezing rain where everything is coated with a layer of ice.
I certainly hope that your aunt will be able to get out soon to pick up your package and get you to the store for your groceries. I don't have to worry about it now because we have a driveway but I remember well all the years I had to shovel out around my car and worry about someone else taking my parking spot the moment I pulled out to go somewhere.
I've been in a lot of really large snowstorms where we'd get over 30 inches of snow and nobody was going anywhere for quite awhile. That's why I like to have extra everything in the house for emergencies, like canned soups, toilet paper, milk, bread, whatever I might need.

Can you call the post office and ask them to redeliver the package or hold it for you until you're able to go pick it up? Our post office is really good about things like that.

Hello winterose.
How lucky you are to receive a gift from a good friend. I feel blessed and loved everytime I receive a gift. It means that we are remembered!
I wish the snow storm will be okay so that you will not be getting more snow. As to christmas gift, I wish I could receive the one that I had been waiting. It will be sent too through mail.
Advance Happy New Year!

Yes, how dare it snow in winter in Canada?
Lots of snow here in Hamilton, too, and unfortunately, I never did get my snow shovel out of the shed in the back yard. I suppose I could get it now, but there's a huge drift in the way...

Normally it wouldn't bother me because I don't have a car and we were close to the grocery store, but not I still don't have a car and never will and I am too far from the grocery store.

I have had that happen to me found a postcard on my door telling me I have a package to pick up at the post office. Luckily I only live a mile away so I can walk there if I need to. I hope that you are able to get the package soon and that it isnt something that will spoil before you can get it.

I hope you can pick it up before the post office send it back to the sender.
I received my x-mas gift from my mom just in time for the season.
Aside from that, I haven't had a lot of x-mas gifts this year compared last year.
